The Dark Art of Inflating Traffic

Postby Redmax » Wed Jan 27, 2010 11:16 am

This isn't a perfect science, meaning that anything is possible. However, in most cases, when things get pushed to the extreme, the likelihood of there being any error becomes smaller. If something doesn't look right, it likely isn't.

Ya, thats prolly not going to happen, chalk it up to lack of time and/or desire. I do keep looking at twitter to see what people are posting and there is a lot on there. So far none of it has translated into the web logs. So either these people have inactive followers or its not as big as people think.

(btw I do see that you post quite a bit on Twitter.)

Heck the biggest Ninjalane article posted on Twitter is my news post showing the Pepsi Throwback can next to the old can from the 80's. Sadly you can't really spark a call to action in 140 chars or less.

haha i actually don't post that much, just had a three-way conversation a couple days ago about quakelive where i used twitter like it was steam instant messaging  , one of my friends makes like 5+ posts per hour regularly though

i just see most review sites use it frequently for popular news posts and articles

edit: forgot to say, twitter posts show up on google searches too, so you can cater your updates to get google to pick on the key words and have the link right there

I hope this article helps people understand the underhanded tricks some sites use to artificially pump their numbers.
There will always be those in this world that cheat, and Ninja's to bring them down!! Awesome job Redmax!

interesting article. I heard about some of the "interactions" between site owners at CES from a friend that owns a hardware site and attended the convention. You would think hardware companies would be able to spot some of this but I guess a lot would depend on how well you were covering your trail. It seems that there is always someone willing to be underhand, etc. to get ahead :?
