It'll be interesting to see just how well the thing cools components in the real world.

i don't know how this converts to CFM, but

so it works better than the average laptop fan 8)

Kinda old news, still good to know that somebody is doing something different.

Their "our speed > their speed" thing is kinda misleading.
If that mechanical fan is 4x larger and moves air "at only 0.7..1.7" m/s it still does better job than their tiny speedy gonzales.
CFM is what they should talk about and never do.

I'm not sure how good they are at removing that charge from the air while moving it, to keep it safe.
So far it seems that for electronics it would only be safe as exhaust fan.

Hmm i think all they would need to do to make it safe is put some aluminum wire mesh around it i remeber somone using it in the same situation befor.

And i agree with you all there silly technical air movement specification are only put there to clould the truth the CFM thruth.

It'd be interesting to see some results of this 'fan' regarding static pressure. All that airflow doesn't mean squat if it can't push it around a heatsink (but i guess they would still make good case fans).

I am very skeptical about these solid state fan, they should try to specify the air flow rate per watt eg. mL/s.W .

I am aware and worked with solid state heat pump which is called peltier junction thermo heat pump http://www.electronickits.com/kit/complete/peltier/ck500.htm. As far as my experience goes a single piece of this stuff can effectively pump out about 15 deg C below room temperature(25-27deg C) running on 12V with ~0.2A . An array of 5 pieces can cool down a 3L box up to 20-25 deg C from room temperature.

Interesting idea. How much heat is generated when ionizing the air to cause the airflow?

Well, we know it is moves more heat by convection than standalone SSD (or it wouldn't exist). I guess they did it for laptops, but I didn't realize that SSDs generated much heat at all. It would intersting to see a case built on this principle...
i just beat the internet.... the end guy was hard.

Faster moving air = greater static pressure? That means these solid state fans would be great for heatsinks!
