that's not the max resolution on crysis, is it? (am i trying to justify spending over $1300 on GPU alone?)

still that is impressive jump from last gen's max... i wonder where fermi x2 will stand in 2010 :?:
i just beat the internet.... the end guy was hard.

That's 1920x1200. It's not running at ultra high settings, but the one lower. That's still really good. I wonder what it does on ultra, but I didn't see any benchmarks for that.

There's been some really bad news when it comes to Fermi. Some leaked reports say that it will be slightly less powerful that the GTX285. If the rumors are true, and I really hope they aren't, then it's AMD's turn to charge exorbitantly for their high-end GPU just like nVidia did with the 8800GTX and competition will suffer, and so will prices. Right now is NOT a good time for competition stagnation in the pc market, since lots of game developers are moving away from developing titles for the pc anyway.

Most of the new nvidia cores run slower than the previous editions but the new technology that they bring usually justifies the update. Most nvidia GPUs we have now are highly optimized editions that were released over a year ago.

however if the reports are true then that will really suck for nVidia, but on the flip side, most of the times when nVidia is down ATI is up and when ATI is down the reverse happens for nVidia. Maybe its timing or just how things are.

I wonder how the 5830 stacks up. I'm still on an 8600gt...looking for an upgrade.

Come on guys read the review on the site. The GTX480 does pretty well at that res and on highers res it plays very nice. Still no enthusiast gaming setting at 2560x1600. I'm sure an SLI setup could do it though.

Well right now Ati 5970 tops the GPU war. But nVidia has a tricky way of releasing its products. The brand new fermi 480 doesn't outperform Ati's 5970, but that doesn't mean that nVIDIA has given up because it still owns the more powerful 'SINGLE CHIPSET' GPU on the planet , which ofcourse is the 480 with fermi technology. In the near future they are gonna release the dual chipset version of 480 , maybe with a new name '495' which Ati would never be able to beat until they come up with a new one, and hopefully with a new technology.

I'm not sure about this. But it seems they might release one later.

http://www.techreaction.net/2010/03/27/ ... 00-series/

TechREACTION.net: Previously you’ve had dual GPU cards such as the GTX 295. Do you have any plans to do the same thing with the GTX 480 GPU?

Bryan Del Rizzo: So we can’t comment on that today, we haven’t announced any product. But I have to kind of laugh because when we launched the GeForce GTX 285, there were a lot of rumors that said we couldn’t do a dual GPU product with that chip. They said it was architecturally impossible, it was too power hungry, it would just be impossible to do. And of course we brought the GTX 295 to market; it did really well! (laughs) So, if you look at the history of Nvidia, you can probably pretty much figure out what we’re going to do, but I can’t give you a confirmation on that today.

If anything is true about nVidia they don't stray far from what the competition is doing or what the community wants.

I would fully expect a dual gpu card, just not any time soon. as BDR says, they haven't made any announcements.
