Duke Nukem Forever to use Doom 3 Engine
"Misstatement by Take-Two CEO Rich Roedel to the press sets off a firestorm of speculation."
It would seem that the Gamespot press has NO sense of humor.
"However, it now appears Roedel's official statement to the press was in error. An item on Shacknews today from 3D Realms' George Broussard flatly denies the Doom 3 engine will be used. "We are not using the Doom 3 engine for Duke Nukem Forever," he said. However, Broussard and other 3D Realms employees declined GameSpot's repeated requests to comment on why the head of Duke Nukem Forever's publisher would make such a public mistake."
Err. Well prolly cause the statement wasn't a mistake but a very cleaver play on words designed to pimp the Duke Nukem Forever game (and 3D Realms) once again.
In case some of you don't know the Duke Nukem Forever game was announced shortly after the rising success of Duke Nukem 3D back in the mid-90's. However shortly after (or before) the engine switch from Q2 to Unreal a black hole in the game development surfaced. Of course due to the hype behind the game it would be detrimental to 3D Realms to say anything bad about DN4 so the company simply said nothing. To this day if you check the 3D Realms website you will find a "When its done" phrase (similar to what id used for Doom 3) describing when the game is due to be released.
I for one can’t wait to see Duke Nukem Forever, though if they do use the 3 engine I hope they at least turn the lights on.
