Overclocking the Athlon64 754 @ OCIA
The guys at OCIA discuss the issues around overclocking the 754Pin Athlon64. While they claim that the Single channel memory controller is the limiting factor in their system I've heard that having drives hooked into the SATA controller is a primary annoyance when it comes to overclocking, at least on the nForce3.
"It was at this point I did some research and learned that 230 FSB was right around the limit for the 754 motherboards/CPU. The reason for this is the fact that the 754 incorporates a single memory controller, built into the CPU. With a GiG of RAM at anything higher than 230 FSB, the controller simply fails, resulting in system instability."
230Mhz FSB was about our limit as well.
