India to Resist U.S. Pressure on Carbon Emission Caps

Published: | Posted By:

Ok I'm not going to say I know everything about the environment here but it would seem that India is more worried about making sure their 1.1 Billion people have something to do than smarten up, play ball and advance as a country.

Take a look at this quote:

"There is simply no case for the pressure that we, who have been among the lowest emissions per capita, face to actually reduce emissions," Jairam Ramesh said at a meeting today with Clinton in Gurgaon near New Delhi, according to a statement he issued to reporters. "And as if this pressure was not enough, we also face the threat of carbon tariffs on our exports to countries such as yours."

They key word here is "per capita"  at 1.1 Billion people they can pretty much get away with anything they want instead of getting smart and doing things the right way.

I say Tariff the crap out of them, and tax companies that employ their services when those services do not comply with emission standards.  Aside from getting money managers to understand technology this might be the only way to right the economic ship and find better ways to do things.
