Soda fountains contained fecal bacteria, study found

For those that know me I am a HUGE Pepsi drinker, normally my soda intake comes from bottles and cans but lunch normally consists of a fountain drink.  Some of the places around here take really poor care of their soda machines; in fact a Quiznoe's near my work tastes like mildew more than soda.  If that can happen then it's no far stretch to find shit in there too.

Nearly half of the 90 beverages from soda fountain machines in one area in Virginia tested positive for coliform bacteria -- which could indicate possible fecal contamination, according to a study published in the January issue of International Journal of Food Microbiology.

So what can you do about that??  Well for those of you that have worked in a restaurant before think about how the company cleans their soda fountains.  In most cases they just pull the nozzles out and soak them in soda water.  Not really a cleaning process much less disinfection.
