DOOM: The Dark Ages Performance Benchmark @ TechPowerUp
TechPowerUp examined the performance of DOOM: The Dark Ages, which runs on the new id Tech 8 engine with support for ray tracing and modern features like DLSS 4, FSR, XeSS, and frame generation. The game offers detailed graphics options, excellent ultrawide and high-refresh-rate support, and showcases the engine's visual improvements. At 1080p Ultra settings, mid-range GPUs such as the RTX 4060 Ti and RX 7700 XT can achieve smooth 60 FPS gameplay, while 1440p requires GPUs like the RTX 3080 or RX 7900 GRE. For native 4K at 60 FPS, only flagship GPUs like the RTX 4090 or RTX 5090 are sufficient without upscaling.

DOOM: The Dark Ages is coming soon, offering an amazing first-person shooter experience with fantastic graphics. The game introduces the brand-new id Tech 8 engine, which improves support for ray-tracing. In our performance review, we examine its graphical fidelity, VRAM usage, and how well it runs on a variety of modern GPUs.
The review highlights the heavy GPU demands, especially at higher resolutions with ray tracing enabled. Upscaling technologies significantly boost performance across all tested GPUs, making even 4K gaming accessible on more mainstream hardware. VRAM usage scales with settings and resolution, with the highest demanding over 12 GB. Latency analysis shows that maintaining low system latency is key to preserving the game’s responsive, fast-paced combat. Overall, DOOM: The Dark Ages is visually stunning and optimized for modern hardware, but best experienced on high-end systems or with intelligent upscaling features enabled.
