Team Ninjalane now ranked 8th in the US on HWBot
Published: Wednesday, January 26, 2011 | By: DennisIt has been a struggle but Team Ninjalane is now ranked 8th of all US based overclocking teams on HWBot. This is a win on so many levels especially considering that our team is actually quite small.
If you are curious about overclocking stop by the forums and ask a question or two. Points on HWBot change daily and this will likely NOT be our last charge, in fact I have a personal vendetta to take down the Asus team, so watch out, I'm coming for you!

NVIDIA Tegra 3, equipped with 1.5GHz quad-core slide
Published: Monday, January 24, 2011 | By: DeanIs Tegra 3 right around the corner?
It's not every day you hear of a 1.5GHz quad-core mobile SOC, but our discovery of corroborating evidence for the T25 module sitting alongside it makes us more willing to credit the possibility of a Blu-ray-crunching, 13,800 MIPS-capable, multicore Cortex-A9 Tegra 3. Moreover, the roadmap of production samples in Q4 of 2010 fits perfectly with NVIDIA's claim that Tegra 3 was "almost done" in September of that year.
If Nvidia stays on track, we could see Tegra 3 in the fall.

China's J-20 stealth fighter: "design is 25 years old"
Published: Sunday, January 23, 2011 | By: DennisThis is not really "tech" news but is actually of great interest to me. It all started at around the time when the US decided to cut funding the F-22 Raptor and halt production. From a budget standpoint doing this seems like a good idea however doing so shows that the US is no longer interested in enforcing their world power status and would rather wait for the rest of the world to catch up.
Well, catching up they shall do. The first on the list is a primary shareholder in the US economy, China. While they are several years away from production the fact they are trying tells us something big is on the horizon.
For the most part, China's combat aircraft programme has lagged behind its competitors in the west and Russia.
China's fourth-generation combat jet, the J-10, appeared in 2006 – but experts say it compares with western aircraft that went into production two decades ago. Beijing has also struggled to develop the Shenyang J-15 carrier-borne jet, reverse-engineered from the Russian-made Sukhoi 33.The thing I really like about this posting is how Russia is now reluctant to send supplies to China in fear that they will start cloning their parts and sell them at a reduced rate.

China's stealth fighter "based on US technology"
Published: Sunday, January 23, 2011 | By: DennisRaise your hand if you saw this coming?
Now, the Admiral who was Croatia's chief of staff during the Kosovo War has said he believes that China formulated the technology for its J-20 jet from an American F-117 Nighthawk stealth fighter that was shot down over Serbia in March 1999.
It would seem that China had been buying up parts of the downed plane to discover how the plane did what it did. I guess gleaning information off of the web was too complicated.

GBU Larkooler Extreme Performance G1/4” Liquid Cooling Kit @ PureOverclock
Published: Sunday, January 23, 2011 | By: Dennis1/4" coolers are generally plagued with limited cooling capacity but are usually a good replacement for noisy aircoolers. Especially when your budget doesn't allow for a larger more custom watercooling kit.
GBU has introduced a new DIY water cooling kit called the Larkooler Extreme Performance G1/4" (KU3-241) Liquid Cooling System. The new system employs a better pump and block, bigger tubing, and supports standard G1/4" threads. It looks gorgeous, so let's check out the performance.
Temps are a little warm for my tastes but the kit looks pretty good.

ASRock P67 Extreme4 & Fatal1ty Professional P67 Motherboards vs X58 / i7-950 Review @ HardwareHeaven
Published: Thursday, January 20, 2011 | By: DeanIf your wondering if you should trade up your X58 gear in favor of a P67 platform, perhaps this review will be of some help.
Today we have two of ASRock's P67 based boards on our test bench and will be putting them through a selection of real world and synthetic tests. To keep things intresting for those who have already seen a number of P67/Sandy Bridge articles, in this review we will put the ASRock systems up against the similarly priced X58/Core i7-950 combination to see if these new products offer better performance and value.........
P67 looks to be faster, but the margin would be to small for me to make a jump.

Analysis: What is Plan B if China dumps its U.S. debt?
Published: Wednesday, January 19, 2011 | By: DennisThis is a good idea regardless of the circumstances.
When borrowing money it's always good to have a Plan B in case a big creditor pulls the plug. That should be true whether the sum is a few thousand dollars or about a trillion, the size of the United States government's debt to China.
In the case of world economy you have to know who your friends are and make sure they are still happy helping you out. In the case of China they have helped carry a large portion of the US debt for a long time in exchange for some of the things the US can provide them with. Namely exports. Now if China decides it needs money (which seems to be the case given their rapid rise in inflation) they will start selling treasury notes to the highest bidder.
This buying and selling of loans is not new, banks do it without home loans all the time, but in the case of world economy it seems like a much bigger deal.It likely would take something like a massive rise in tensions over an issue like Taiwan or oil exploration in disputed areas of the South China Sea, including possible military confrontation between the two nations. Such a confrontation would also make it easier for Washington to appeal to the American public to buy its debt for patriotic reasons.
Let's hope this doesn't happen (for a variety of reasons). If in fact something like this does go down the US may be forced to have US citizens buy up bonds to support the country. Given the current state of the economy asking citizens to buy up bonds in the numbers they need could be a hard sell, even if it is the responsible thing to do.
