  • DFI Hybrid Motherboard HD Video Preview (P45 + ION - Two Systems, One Mobo) @ Tweaktown

Published: Monday, September 21, 2009 | By: Will

Now this is a very cool idea. You can now be more productive than ever while using your computer with this new board.

"It turned out that DFI created a totally unique motherboard design that actually allows for two systems to run shared (KVM style) or fully independent of each other, on the one single board.

The left side of the system is built up of the components for the NVIDIA ION and Intel Atom platform. This part could be used as a low-power file server or torrent downloading system or even Blu-ray movie playback. And the right side of the board features the parts seen on a traditional P45 + Socket 775 CPU motherboard, which could be used for gaming, video editing or other intensive applications."

    Pretty neat.cool smile

Some more PC gaming to push those super fantastic graphic cards that we have.

Majesty 2: the Kingdom Fantasy Sim (PC) Review @ Gamingheaven

When the original Majesty was released at the turn of the century I spent months of my life trying to complete some of the more difficult missions. It was fiendishly addictive yet also surprisingly difficult. Developer 1C Company have released the follow up entitled ‘Majesty 2' which is set to update some of the gameplay elements as well as introduce a flashy new 3D graphics engine.

Sherlock Holmes Vs. Jack the Ripper - PC Review @ Gamepyre

Basically, if you like action games, shooters, war simulators, anything fast paced and I mean anything, DON'T bother with this game. This game is more of a entertaining puzzle but it is by no means an action game. Reading, exami...

It has only been a couple of weeks and we are already getting P55 motherboard roundups. Well I'm game for it. So lets get some reading done.

Almost two weeks after the official release of the Core i5 platform, we review three LGA1156 motherboards. We put the Gigabyte P55-UD3 and UD6 through the same batch of tests as the MSI P55-GD80 and check who comes out on top. Next to that we have some surprising results for those who want to use Turbo mode and also have a look at the extreme overclocking capabilities of both high-end motherboards.

  • Seagate Barracuda XT 6 Gbps SATA Drive Preview @ Bigbruin

Published: Monday, September 21, 2009 | By: Will

The new SATA 6Gb/s standard is finally coming to all of us PC folk. The specs look just down right awesome. Then come to think of it so did the SATA 3Gb/s generation, but the drives was never really able to hits that true throughput.

Seagate is launching the industry's first 2TB SATA 6 Gb/s, 64MB cache hard drive with its Barracuda XT product line. Seagate has tagged the Barracuda XT 2TB SATA 6G hard drive with the phrase: "Speed and capacity, uncompromised." How could anything possibly be compromised with a 6 Gb/s speed, and a huge amount of storage and cache?

Let's hope this time we are amazed before SSD takes over. big grin smile

Corsair® Launches 650 Watt Professional Series Modular Power Supply

    - Successor to the critically-acclaimed HX620W delivers even higher performance -

FREMONT, Calif., Sept. 15, 2009 - Corsair®, a worldwide leader in high-performance computer memory, power supplies and flash memory products, including solid-state drives, today announced the launch of the Corsair Professional Series HX650W modular power supply.

The HX650W joins the multi award-winning HX750W, HX850W and HX1000W as part of Corsair's Professional Series of PSUs, all of which feature a comprehensive low-profile modular cable set, minimal noise levels, ultra-high efficiency, and the highest component quality and performance on the market."The Corsair HX650W is ideal for enthusiasts and gamers who are looking for a highly efficient, quiet, modular power supply, but don't need the higher wattages offered by the other PSUs in the Professional Series" said Jim Carlton, VP of Marketing at Corsair. "The HX650W offers the same unmatched quality standards and 7 Year warranty, but at a power level more suitable for mid/high-spec PC builds, such as those based on Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 'Lynnfield' processors."

The Corsair Professional Series HX650W uses industrial-grade components, ensuring stable, clean and reliable voltages, and delivers the vast majority of its total power output (96%) on its single 52A +12V rail. This is essential for reliably powering today's PCs with multi-core CPUs and graphics cards. The Professional Series HX650W is also tested and guaranteed to operate at 100% load at an ambient temperature of 50°C, guaranteeing stability and reliability no matter the conditions.

The Corsair Professional Series HX650W features a sophisticated, energy-efficient circuitry design that ensures maximum energy savings and minimal heat generation. This highly efficient design meets 80 PLUS BRONZE certification standards, ensuring a minimum efficiency of 82%, and typical efficiency of 85%.

The Corsair Professional Series HX650W also boasts an innovative cabling configuration that uses flat modular cables - including 4 x PCI Express connectors for SLI and CrossFire configurations - that help maximize airflow through the chassis. The modular design also simplifies installation as it allows you to utilize only those cables that are needed.

  • Yields are under 2% - WTF?

Published: Wednesday, September 16, 2009 | By: Dennis

Ok so I was checking the logs today to see who has been reading Ninjalane today and noticed a new(ish) site linking to our recent Corsair Ice T30 review.  Being the good editor I started rooting around and found this article talking about the new GT300.

How many worked out of the (4 x 104) 416 candidates? Try 7. Yes, Northwood was hopelessly optimistic - Nvidia got only 7 chips back. Let me repeat that, out of 416 tries, it got 7 'good' chips back from the fab. Oh how it must yearn for the low estimate of 20%, talk about botched execution. To save you from having to find a calculator, that is (7 / 416 = .01682), rounded up, 1.7% yield.

So you have to ask yourself.

If yields are so bad why would nVidia release that information?  Furthermore why is this even news?  Everyone knows that when a new chip process is being developed that there are going to be roadblocks and unless these roadblocks continue to be a problem it won't have any impact on anything.

Given that nVision is scheduled to happen in a couple weeks it is our guess that a rival company opted to leak the information in hopes of giving nVida some bad press. in fact it wouldn't be the first time something like this happened.  Almost every year AMD hires a plane to fly a banner over the IDF conference just as everyone is headed out for lunch.  Ironically enough IDF happens around the same time.

    Coincidence??  Hardly…

IT looks like the PC gaming season is just starting to really pick up with some very cool and unique games out there.

Section 8 (PC) Review @ Gamingheaven

"TimeGate Studios are a developer well known for their release of the Kohan real time strategy series which was a favourite with the gaming community a few years ago. They tried to push the boundaries of the genre and for the most part it worked well. They were also responsible for the F.E.A.R. Expansions - Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate. Today we review their latest game, a multiplayer focused shooter."

Resident Evil 5 (PC) Review @ Gamingheaven

"Resident Evil 5 was released on the consoles around 6 months ago and it was positively received by both critics and more importantly the public. It brought together some of the franchise's classic characters and combined a few of the best elements of previous releases for the finest release to date. The addition of cooperative mode increased the overall enjoyment and ensured healthy sales. Today we look at the PC version which has been much awaited."

    Darkest Of Days @ Bjorn3D

"Darkest Of Days is a type of game that immediately sucks you into the plot, keeps you there, and throws a whole lot of baddies at you. But this game is not like the everyday average FPS, because this time we don't allways have access to the most advanced weaponry known to man kind, instead we have the most advanced weaponry of that time. Then on top of that you fight in some of the most famous battles in history. If you think you gonna just go through this game and be able to just to lay waste the baddies with out a care in the world, well there's another slight twist, you can't kill the guys who have a blue aurora around them, shoot them and it is all over."
  • Cooler Master CM Storm Sentinel Advance Gaming Mouse Review @ Bigbruin

Too many choices in the computer gaming hardware industry can just get to confusing and  ugly. The input device area is now getting a total flood of new comers putting there design ideas into the mouse market. Here we get to see what Cooler Master has for everyone to see for this area.

"The Cooler Master CM Storm Sentinel Advance is by far the most feature rich gaming mouse I have seen to date. I would also go as far as saying that any gamer would benefit from the versatility and comfort provided by this mouse. Every aspect of the mouse is at your control to be adjusted and tweaked to fit each game's unique style of use."

I will admit it though that this mouse looks to be pretty cool.cool smile

"Even though the Lynnfield processor lineup is still in its infancy, we have seen a massive number of motherboards become available for it in a very short time. These P55-based boards run the gamut of both pricing and features but none have excited us more than the one we will be previewing for you today: the EVGA P55 Classified 200."

Well time for another roundup of game reviews and I even have one of my favorites in it.

    F.E.A.R. 2 Reborn DLC (18) PC - Review @ Gamingheaven

F.E.A.R. 2 was met with a mixed response - some gamers thought it combined strong core gameplay with high octane FPS action while others felt it was just riding on the coat tails of the original game which was a huge seller when it was released. Me? I thought it was entertaining enough, even if it didn't reinvent the wheel.

Lost Planet 2 Preview @ OCModShop

In the previous game (Lost Planet: Extreme Condition), the world was completely covered with snow and ice, which required the use of Thermal Energy to survive. Lost Planet 2 takes place 10 years after the previous installment. The planet has been terraformed, and is now green and has flowing rivers and streams.
