Nvidia reportedly scores QPI license while Intel gets SLI for X58 motherboards
Published: Tuesday, July 15, 2008 | By: DennisHere is some good news.
Nvidia has recently reached an agreement with Intel and received a Quick Path Interconnect (QPI) license enabling the company to design chipsets for Intel's next-generation platforms, according to sources at motherboard makers.
Nvidia will only launch solutions for entry-level and mid-range motherboards supporting socket 1160 CPUs (Lynnfield) initially. Whether this is because Nvidia is not very optimistic about the potential of the high-end market in the early stages, or a restriction imposed by Intel to make sure it gets to enjoy the lion's share of the enthusiast socket 1366 CPU (Bloomfield) market is unclear at this stage. You'll have to check the article for the rest, though I can say neither Intel or nVidia had any additional comments.

NVidia On The Slide?
Published: Friday, July 11, 2008 | By: WillWell, we have all seen the Nvidia stock prices drop very rapidly over the last couple weeks. Then it looks like it is time for the wolves to come in. One ugly wolf that likes to chew on anyone when they are down is Rambus. Well they are getting ready with a lawsuit against NVidia.
"The lawsuit, filed in federal court in California, accuses that several Nvidia products with memory controllers infringe 17 Rambus patents. The products include chipsets, graphics processors, media communication processors and multimedia applications processors."
Does anyone hear a theme song like me? "Kick'em when their up, Kick'em when their down".

Gainward to launch AMD Radeon products
Published: Wednesday, July 2, 2008 | By: DennisThis is some good news!
Though you have to wonder, will the cards still be red?
Graphics card vendor Gainward, previously an exclusive AIB partner of Nvidia, has begun working with AMD and will launch ATI Radeon HD GPU-based products soon, according to market sources.
Initially Gainward plans to launch Radeon HD 4850 and 4870-series products, and will follow HD 3800-series cards later, the sources said.
Gainward's decision to launch ATI Radeon HD products indicates that the market for AMD graphics chips is good and more traditionally Nvidia only vendors may follow suit, market watchers commented. Whether Nvidia decides to try and woo partners back with reduced pricing or other incentives bears further observation, the watchers noted.
