Mushkin XP2-8500 DDR2 2GB Dual Pack @ OCTools
Published: Sunday, January 28, 2007 | By: DennisWe tried to meet with the Muskin folks at CES though their elusive meeting room was rather difficult to locate.
"The XP2-8500 dual pack consists of 2 x 1GB modules rated at 1066MHz with timings of 5-5-4-12. This kit promises to deliver outstanding performance to complement the latest crop of processors out there. It is designed to take advantage of the latest generation motherboards for asynchronous and synchronous memory settings. Note that this type of memory is also backward compatible to DDR2 systems using 800MHz like AMD's current AM2 platform, thus, giving overclockers and enthusiasts with more room to work with when pushing their systems to the limit."
These modules are using the famous Micron D9GMH chips which seem to be very popular with all of the memory mfgs. -
Alpha Novatech PRE9060M92P Socket 775 Heatsink Review @ Frostytech
Published: Sunday, January 28, 2007 | By: DennisBig fans of the Alpha coolers (no pun intended) however I'm rather skeptical of the mounting method as its a little non-standard for my tastes.
"When Alpha Novatech produce a new heatsink model the company tends to only produce one or two variations to get it right. On the other hand, companies like Thermaltake produce dozens of heatsinks for each new CPU platform, and six months down the road there is always an entirely new collection of thermal solutions to choose from.... Did you ever wonder why it takes a high end heatsink manufacturer a handful of thermal solutions to cover an entire processor series, and other brands dozens and dozens? In this review, Frostytech will be testing out the Alpha Novatech PRE9060M92P heatsink; a large socket 775 solution ideally suited for Intel Pentium D, Core 2 Duo/Quad processors." -

MSI NX8800GTX Review and Mixed-Vendor SLI @ nV News
Published: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 | By: DennisThis should prove to be interesting.
"In addition to providing single GPU performance with the MSI NX8800GTX, we also paired it with EVGA's GeForce 8800 GTX to form a mixed vendor SLI configuration. The first order of business when running the GeForce 8800 GTX in an SLI configuration is to upgrade to a Certified SLI-Ready Power Supply." -
AMD QuadFX FX-70 Platform Performance & Overclocking @ Legit Reviews
Published: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 | By: DennisFor those not in the know the AMD processors in this review are of the pinless variety and are currently being marketed in the server and workstation space.
"Legit Reviews recently looked at the top AMD QuadFX platform running FX-74 processors and was left wondering what a pair of FX-70 processors could do for less money. We got in the 'budget' QuadFX processors and did what any end user would do once they got them - overclock them to the max. We turned these 2.6GHz processors into 3.1GHz beasts, but was it enough for them to catch up to the Intel QX6700?" -
Why China's Missile Test Is Troubling
Published: Friday, January 19, 2007 | By: DennisHere is something a little different, not hardware and/or computer related but interesting.
"It's springtime for anti-satellite missiles — again — now that China has fired a missile into space and destroyed an aging weather satellite orbiting 500 miles above the earth. The James Bond-style exercise left a several-hundred- meter-wide cloud of scrap metal floating around in space. Some of the debris could pose a threat to spacecraft passing through the region, scientists say, and will remain a problem for hundreds of years to come. And there will be repercussions on Earth, too." -
Nvidia only strategy pays off for XFX: Q&A with Pine Technology chairman Michael Chiu
Published: Friday, January 19, 2007 | By: DennisHere is a really good read that talks about the rise of Pine in the graphics market.
"When Nvidia launched its GeForce 8800, the whole camp of Nvidia camp graphics card makers was elated, and among them was Pine Technology, which markets graphics cards under the XFX brand name. Based in Hong Kong, Pine has been a loyal Nvidia supporter ever since the company decided to concentrate on the graphics card market. Now, one of Nvidia's key AIC (add-in-cards) partners, Pine is a strong player in a market dominated by competitors from Taiwan." -

Not sure what to say about video cards except that everyone wants to review one though rarely do they tell you anything you can read from the box, however I do like the heatsink on the new Gainward card. Very nice. -
