Second-tier mobo maker Abit to be delisted from TSE
Published: Thursday, March 23, 2006 | By: DennisFirst Abit annouces that they are back and better than ever and now this. Makes you wonder if their products are really that great.
"Abit will be delisted from the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE) as the latest financial statements it submitted to the TSE still failed to meet the requirements set by the government’s supervisory agency and also because it failed to completely redeem a due overseas convertible bond issue, the Chinese-language Commercial Times reported today, quoting a TSE report.
Abit is likely to be delisted within two months as the TSE is required to submit its proposal for delisting Abit to Taiwan’s Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) for approval and post FSC’s official announcement for 40 days."
I mean com'on the [H] doesn't even review their stuff anymore, not to mention a total lack of Ninjalane support. (long old story) -
Oversupply of 915 chipsets to affect profits at Taiwan mobo makers
Published: Thursday, March 23, 2006 | By: DennisWouldn't an oversupply bring the chipset price down? its not like motherboards are traded like gold on the stock exchange.
"Taiwan makers of motherboards and PC chipsets are expected to have their profits eroded significantly in the first quarter due to an oversupply of Intel’s 915-series chipsets, according to Henry King, an analyst at Goldman Sachs, as quoted in a March 22 report of the Chinese-language Commercial Times.
According to the report, the oversupply of the 915 chipsets forced Asustek Computer to adopt an aggressive pricing for its S- and Oniga-series entry-level motherboards, with some models falling to as low as US$40, King noted. Other motherboard makers followed suit after Asustek cut its prices, the analyst noted."
Unless the oversupply is related to completed motherboards and not just chipsets. -
Taiwan chipset makers blame harsh hardware requirements on Vista delay
Published: Thursday, March 23, 2006 | By: Dennis"According to Taiwan chipset makers, the delay of the consumer release of Microsoft Vista to January 2007 is not surprising, considering the strict hardware requirements Microsoft is putting in place for its next generation operating system (OS).
Although Microsoft will still offer some enterprise versions of Vista in November, the consumer version will not be available this year, according to Microsoft press release. The software giant claims that it requires more time to enhance the security and other functions of the platform, the report noted."
I think that Taiwan chipset makers are just stabbing in the dark so they can get their name in the paper but there is some truth to their ramblings, at least on the hardware side of things.
Personally I think the delay is one way for Microsoft to get people taking about Vista and actually want to buy it. -
Foxconn to begin shipping own-brand graphics cards
Published: Tuesday, March 14, 2006 | By: Dennis"Taiwan EMS giant Foxconn Electronics (the registered trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry) launched its first own-brand graphics card (PX7900GTX), which is based on the Nvidia GeForce 7900 GT/GTX (G71) graphics processing unit (GPU), at the ongoing CeBIT 2006 in Hannover, Germany.
Foxconn stated that it will also be partnering with ATI Technologies on graphics card production. The company will establish a brand new graphics card product line, and hopes to begin shipping own-brand graphics cards in the first half of this year.
Although industry players are concerned about the business outlook for Foxconn’s affiliate companies, Leadtek Research and Tul, both companies claimed ignorance about the news." -
Future Plans of Foxconn From Cebit By Hexus
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: Dennis"In terms of new hardware products, FOXCONN will also be announcing a mainboard design which incorporates "four graphics card slots", which it will claim to be capable of operating in parallel; FOXCONN's buzz-term for this technology will be “immersive imagery.”"
Foxconn is really trying to break into the market; I hope they can do it.
and no, I don't hope for their success because they use Red PCBs on their motherboards.. Well not entirely. -

The previous sound card developed by HDA is the X-Mystique, which was previously distributed by Bluegears, and has been reviewed by nV News in the past."
This is a sweet card, no doubt about it. -
SLI Patch @ NGOHQ
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: Dennis"A while back Asrock published a SLI enabling patch for their ULi chipset based motherboards that have two PCI-Express slots. Various rumors suggested that the patch would also function under other chipsets as well, and allow users with other chipsets to use SLI on their non-SLI motherboards. Unfortunately the original version of the patch installs only on ULi 1695/7 chipsets - you couldn’t use it if you didn’t have a motherboard with that particular chipset.
We’ve managed to rip the installer and to create a modified version of the SLI patch that allows you to use it with EVERY motherboard. We couldn’t do in-depth testing on other chipsets, but if the rumors are true then it should definitely work. Feel free to use it at your own risk, and please post the results in our forums. Remember, this is a modified version and is not supported by Asrock, ULi or Nvidia."
-- snip --
"Update: It seems that the patch is not working for Intel chipsets. We’re working on a patch update and it might take a while. We’re looking for beta testers with an ULi 1695/7 based motherboards.
Update II: If you’re planning to try this patch then don’t use it with ForceWare 84.12. My personal recommendation is ForceWare 77.77 for a better luck." -
NL: Review Block - Its DFI Time
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: DennisDFI Rox, I must say they have done an exceptionable job on keeping with the enthusiast nature of the LanParty Series.

Ninjalane was one of the first sites to review a LanParty board long before the "mainstream" sites got a hold of them. -
Opteron 148 overclocking guide @ Hardwareoverclock Austria
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: DennisYou'll need a translator for this one but the pictures and charts are pretty universal.
"Bei diesem Test waren die Möglichkeiten fast unbegrenzt. Ein FSB von 300 MHz war auf unserem A8N-SLI nicht möglich, auf dem DFI schon. So wurden auch die Speicher zur Gänze ausgereizt. Der zweite wichtige Punkt war die mögliche höhere VCore auf dem DFI. Bei 1,65 Volt war dann das Maximum von 3060 MHz erreicht, und das stabil und nur mit Luftkühlung."
Yup, what he said. -
HyperTransport Link Investigation @ EclipseOC
Published: Saturday, March 11, 2006 | By: DennisThis paragraph pretty much sums everything up.
"The HT link appears to effect one thing in it's current state: Video subsytem performance, and even there it's not a tremendous change until we get down to the very lower limits of the speed range that is available. It's been said before and I'll say it once more to drive the point home. The HyperTransport Link speed has a very small effect on system performance."
The HT is the speed in which the processor talks with the chipset, for stability you should keep this frequency at or below 1000Mhz, any higher and the system may not boot or could cause data corruption.
