  • Cebit 2005 - Day 1

Published: Thursday, March 10, 2005 | By: Dennis

Ya Cebit is huge, maybe one of these years I'll be able to afford the flight over the pond to attend.
"With 6,270 exhibitors (52 percent from abroad) and a net display area of 309,000 square meters CeBIT is once again reasserting its singular role among the world's IT and telecoms trade fairs in 2005. In just one and a half decades, CeBIT has grown from its origins as part of the HANNOVER FAIR to become the world's leading event for information technology, telecommunications, software and services."

  • Thermaltake Beetle Review @ InsaneTek

Published: Thursday, March 10, 2005 | By: Dennis

When I saw this news posting in my inbox I was pretty much "WFT?". Much to my surprise, the heatsink does look like a giant beetle legs and all. If anything check the review out for the photos.
"The Thermaltake Beetle's packaging comes in a plastic box. It is compatible with the Intel P4 478, 775, and the AMD K7 and K8 sockets. Unlike the Big Typhoon, the beetle utilizes a 92mm fan that is included with the heatsink. On the back of the heatsink, there are four mounting holes for an optional 80mm fan."

  • When Will Ugly Computer Cases Disappear? @ CoolTechZone

Published: Thursday, March 10, 2005 | By: Dennis

Now here is something I too feel strongly about. fuGly Computer cases. In retrospect I should have written something like this sooner. sad smile
"A few years ago when companies began introducing their pre-modded computer cases, it is safe to say that the majority of the enthusiast community was quite excited to see something unique being brought to the market. These new cases were aimed at the person that did not possess the skills or have the time required to perform tedious case mods."
I still say, get a good case, develop some skillz, and start modding. big grin smile

  • DFI NF4 SLI-D board has broken the barrier!

Published: Thursday, March 10, 2005 | By: Dennis

Here is some good news for those of you looking to get some A64 lovin. The site has a variety of screenshots to show of their stability testing and given the voltage control on this board I don't doubt their claims.

  • Albatron K8SLI Introduction @ AMDboard

Published: Thursday, March 10, 2005 | By: Dennis

I kind of like this site, they have just enough info and photos to get the point across and hardly any BS and a few mispellings. tongue smile
"New SLI technology M/B boasts 1.7 times the graphics performance of conventional systems
Albatron K8SLI dual VGA card mainboard, incredigraphical performance increase!"

I esp like the color combo on this board, too bad it's made by Albatron.

  • ASUS VENTO 3600 Dream Gaming Case @ Barrys

Published: Monday, March 7, 2005 | By: Dennis

Some of you may have seen a few photos of this case in our Computex 2004 coverage last year, well it would seem that ASUS is selling the case direct now.
"When you see the name VENTO and the magazine-quality photos of the case on the large, colorful (and heavy) box, you immediately begin to think of exotic Italian made sports cars and motorcycles. Once you wrestle the case from the box and unwrap it, the feeling is confirmed. Although it’s tempting to compare the ASUS VENTO 3600 with an Alienware, the VENTO 3600 looks more as if it escaped from the Ducati factory in Bologna than Area 51, with its rakish, wind-tunnel inspired profile and massive, logo-emblazoned air ducts."
Based on my extensive knowledge of cases the photos tell us that the shell is great, the case under the shell isn't much better than the Raidmax Samurai that we reviewed a few months ago.

  • Soltek K8T890 Pro-939 Review @ t-break

Published: Monday, March 7, 2005 | By: Dennis

We recently had the opportunity to review this board from Soltek and walked away with nothing but good things to say.
"VIA continues to provide an alternative for the AMD market. While the nForce4 chipset has a lot of features built-in, the price of motherboards based on that chipset is also a bit higher compared to some of VIA’s solutions like this Soltek board. As you saw, the performance of this board is as good as an nForce4 Ultra and if Soltek can manage to price it considerably lower, then we can easily see mainstream users picking this board up."

  • SilverStone Temjin TJ06 Review @ The TechReport

Published: Monday, March 7, 2005 | By: Dennis

Here is a case that at first glance will shock and amaze you and while the layout is shocking you will say to yourself, "Why didn't I do that?".
"SilverStone has borrowed BTX’s airflow path to create the new Temjin TJ06 enclosure. The TJ06 brings BTX-style cooling to the tried-and-true ATX platform by flipping the motherboard upside-down and moving a few things around. And unlike BTX cases, the TJ06 works with existing ATX hardware. Is it a cooler, quieter, potentially better take on ATX?"

  • What a long weekend

Published: Monday, March 7, 2005 | By: Dennis

Damn what a long weekend, I suppose it wouldn't be so bad spending the entire time outside given the wonderful weather except that I was working on the new house the entire time. (I'm getting rather tired of all this painting I have been required to do.)

News to follow, just need to sort thru the weekends stash and see what's good.
