nVidia and Intel Sitting in a Tree.......
Published: Monday, November 22, 2004 | By: DennisHere is some more news on the nVidia + Intel deal we reported last week (not directly reported but posted news about)
Nvidia to enter Pentium 4-compatible chipset market in 2005, Taiwan makers to focus on K8 platform
"Nvidia is expected to start delivering a core-logic chipset that supports Intel-based CPUs in 2005, and last week the company signed a multi-year, cross-license agreement with the chip giant, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers.
Nvidia’s entry into the Intel CPU market is, however, unlikely to have a major impact on Taiwan chipset makers since they will focus their efforts on producing chipsets for the Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) K8 platform, the sources noted."
While I'm really stoked about the news it would seem that the powers to be in Taiwan don't really care.at least yet

Which Soyo is Quitting??
Published: Monday, November 22, 2004 | By: Dennis"A recent report stating Soyo Computer was quitting the motherboard business has caused a bit of confusion among DigiTimes readers and led to a number of queries from Soyo customers concerned about the worth of their motherboard rebates.
The confusion arose from the fact that there are, in fact, three historically intertwined affiliated companies all named Soyo, and it is only the original parent company, Soyo Computer, that plans to phase out production of its motherboards."
That's kind of funny actually. -
nVidia SLI Technology Preview @ Hexus
Published: Monday, November 22, 2004 | By: Dennis"Ah, SLI. That most famous of three letter acronyms is rearing its 3D head again. I'm pretty sure the majority of the HEXUS-reading public has some idea of the basic ideas behind 3dfx's old concept."
I never actually had an SLI setup back in 3DFX days but that never stopped me from dr00ling over the phatty Quantum3D Obsidian card back in the day. It's really too bad they are so rare or I'd look into trying to acquire one again. -

Sapphire 9600 XT Review @ TeamHardware
Published: Monday, November 22, 2004 | By: Dennis"remember that Half-Life 2 voucher?"
Yep I do, and I know many of you out there do as well.
This review is kind of neat, not because it is on old(er) hardware but because they have an ATI enabled video card with a black PCB.Its not every day you see ATI on anything other than Red.
"Sapphire released the 9600 XT in a few different tastes. The one we’re looking at is the 9600 XT lite with 128 MB DDR SDRAM. You can also get one with 256 MB memory or a Zalman cooling which has been named the Sapphire 9600 XT ultimate. The cooling on the Lite version is a small one that is pretty quiet. The memory is not cooled in any way as you can see in the pictures below." -

NVIDIA and Intel Sign Broad Cross-License and Chipset License Agreements
Published: Friday, November 19, 2004 | By: DennisThis story is HUGE!!
""NVIDIA and Intel are working together to enhance the end-user computing experience," added Jen-Hsun Huang, president and chief executive officer of NVIDIA. "NVIDIA's product portfolio offers exciting technology options to Intel customers, including the NVIDIA nForce platform and the PCI Express-based SLI graphics technology solution.""
Huge I tell you.
Here is a link to what nVidia has to say about the agreement.
For the longest time nVidia wouldn't build an nForce for Intel processors due to the charge associated with using the Intel processor bus. Now that an agreement has been signed nVidia can get started on an nForce for Intel processors. Can you say SLI + Intel??
I knew you could -
Taiwan mobo makers caught in Intel chipset shortage
Published: Friday, November 19, 2004 | By: DennisNoooooooooo..........
anything but a chipset shortage.
that darn intel
"Fourth-quarter motherboard shipments from Taiwan motherboard makers might be affected by a shortage of Intel 865- and 845-series core-logic chipsets, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers.
Efforts by Intel to force the PC industry to migrate to the 915 platform by reducing the supply of its 865 and 845 chipsets have caused the shortfall, the sources noted.
The problem is that 915-based motherboards currently account for just 10% of the Pentium 4 motherboards sold in the channel, while 865- and 845-based boards still remain the mainstream and account for 80% of the market, said the sources."
I dunno about you but this kind of tells you where the consumers are when it comes to buying motherboards. -
AMD 3000+ 3200+ 90nm CPU Review @ AMDReview
Published: Friday, November 19, 2004 | By: Dennis"Today we have more than a couple of choices in 64bit computing. It's popularity is quickly becoming mainstream. AMD has recently released it's next generation of 64bit cpu's with the introduction of the Winchester core line built on the new 90nm fabrication process. These cpu's are now made to fit in a 939 pin socket versus the 754 pin socket of previous Athlon64 cpu's which were built on a 130nm process so you will have to replace the motherboard if you want to run these cpu's if you are coming from a socket 754 setup. Today we take a look at the 300+ and 3200+ models, both socket 939."
Yep thats the quote they sent me.. While 3200+ 939 processors are really cheap we've found that they are not really all that considering that our 754pin Clawhammer kicked its arse.

New PolarFLO TT Series Pumps??
Published: Friday, November 19, 2004 | By: DennisIt would seem that PolarFLO is now in the business of building custom waterpumps. They are styled after their TT line of waterblocks and look really good. (almost a must have provided you have a TT block already) I haven't seen any specs on the pumps yet though expect the info to be released soon.
