  • Slipstreaming WindowsXP @ PCStats

Published: Monday, August 16, 2004 | By: Dennis

If you install WindowsXP more than once a month having a copy of WindowsXP with all of the security updates applied can easily save you a couple of hours of install time. The entire process is pretty easy you just need some time and a good CD burner.

Guides like this are all over the net for instance here is another one at

  • Doom 3 Graphics Comparo @ The Tech Report

Published: Monday, August 16, 2004 | By: Dennis

"WE'VE ALREADY examined DOOM 3's performance on the newest generation of high-end graphics cards from ATI and NVIDIA, but we're not done with the game just yet. While DOOM 3 is obviously most comfortable running on the latest high-end graphics hardware (especially NVIDIA's GeForce 6800 series) the vast majority of gamers are equipped with older and more mainstream graphics cards."
There has been a huge push over the past couple years to make sure that when you bought hardware it was hardware enough to run Doom 3, well now that the game is here how well did you do? Chances are you did ok.

  • Cooler Master Aquagate @ Overclockers Online

Published: Monday, August 16, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Here’s a shot of the LCD display in action. As you can see, the water is almost hot enough to cook spaghetti (well, maybe 100 degrees more and it can). In order to prevent the Aquagate from alarming, I had to raise the threshold. This is done by hitting the "S" button until the "Tank" setting is flashing."
The Aquagate is a pretty neat little unit for self contained watercooling though suffers from that same fate as many kits, Not enough power to do any real cooling.

The funny part is that one fried proc later they had a working system up and running to test with, I think I would have left that part out. wink smile

  • eVGA 6800 GT vs. Sapphire X800 Pro @ 3DXtreme

Published: Monday, August 16, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Today 3Dxtreme is presenting a different type of review. We are reviewing both the Sapphire X800 Pro and eVGA 6800GT video cards. Instead of presenting two separate reviews containing the same information we are reviewing both Video Cards in the same review as a competition at the $399 price point."
eVGA is currently the only company that has a 6800 card in the retail channels that anyone can get. (of course last I checked)

  • HIS Excalibur X800 Pro IceQ @ OcPrices

Published: Friday, August 13, 2004 | By: Dennis

"The HIS Excalibur X800 Pro IceQ II is unique in that it does not follow the normal ATI reference clone. The most obvious difference is the presence of the huge IceQ II cooling system. This is a twin slot solution, similar in shape to an nVIDIA cooler rather than the normal single slot design preferred by ATi."
The author even goes as far as to unlock the card to make it a X800 XT, the process seems to be pretty simple, almost to simple.

  • LGA 775 Mounting Kit for the PolarFLO TT - Now Available

Published: Friday, August 13, 2004 | By: Dennis

"The Intel LGA 775 Socket T mount for the TT CPU is now available. It is available as an option (at no additional charge) when ordering a new TT CPU or it can be ordered separately as a kit."
If memory serves this is the first retail waterblock for the new LGA 775.

Let the floodgates open. big grin smile

  • Thermaltake Extreme Volcano 12 @ Phoronix

Published: Friday, August 13, 2004 | By: Dennis

Not sure about you but having a heatsink fan with only 3 blades is a little distrubing.
"Heat kills; it’s as simple as that. Therefore, the need for proper cooling in your system is an obvious and required need. Whether you’re overclocking your system or you just want to move away from the stock heatsinks, which are not visually appealing, nor efficient the Volcano 12 from Thermaltake can get the job done."
Whoa, that's a long sentence. tongue smile

  • Water-cooling for Everyone 2 @ A True Review

Published: Friday, August 13, 2004 | By: Dennis

Its true, everyone can be watercooling and with very little effort. A True Review covers a few small watercooling "kits" that typically don't have very good performance numbers when it comes to overclocking but do a fairly good job a making your system a little quieter.
"Once upon a time there was a review titled Watercooling for Everyone. In that review, two different styles of water-cooling were introduced: the water-cooling unit, and the water-cooling kit. In addition, the review also discussed the various components of a water-cooling system and how each component has an effect on the entire water-cooling system."

  • Soltek SL-865Pro-775 (Hybrid) 'ProSeries' Review Posted

Published: Friday, August 13, 2004 | By: Dennis

Every few years Intel decides to change things around a bit and though they mean well the change usually translates into a major dent in the pocketbook. Soltek realizes this and has come up with a great upgrade solution.

  • NL: Review Block - X800

Published: Thursday, August 12, 2004 | By: Dennis

I'm surprised that people are still interested in the X800 especially with the 6800 in the wings. Then again some people become obsessed with aliens every day despite the lack of any credible proof of their existence. big grin smile

    - GeCube Radeon X800 Pro Review @ Elite Bastards

I for one will remain as loyal for as I can, though if any "good" 6800's don’t hit the retail markets soon my savings might just go to something more worthwhile.
