Vantec iCEBERQ BGA Ramsinks @ hi-techreviews
Published: Monday, July 12, 2004 | By: DennisThese are a really hi-tech let me tell ya
.
"So we need a way to better protect our memory from overheating should we decide to push the limits of the memory. That is where the Vantec iCEBERG Copper BGA Ramsinks come into play, with this kit you are provided with 8 copper ramsinks which come with thermal tape pre-applied to the backs of each ramsink to make installation a snap."
CoolerMaster had something similar back in the day, not sure if the items are still part of their catalog or not but they did work quite well. -
Albatron K8X800 Pro II @ Lan Addict
Published: Monday, July 12, 2004 | By: DennisI recently revisited the Soltek SL-K8AV-R for a new review that is in the works and after flashing to the latest bios I am happy to report an almost 136 degree turn around in overclockability!
Check out the CPU-Z screenshot in the Ninjaforum (235Mhz FSB stable)
"The Albatron K8X800 Pro II is essentially the K8X800 with more bells and whistles. So if you like our review of this motherboard it might be worth checking out the standard K8X800 or K8X800 Pro in addition to this motherboard since they are strikingly similar."
No word on how their overclocking venture went. -
915 motherboards not expected until late July
Published: Friday, July 9, 2004 | By: Dennis"Although Intel has resumed deliveries of 915 chipsets, full availability of 915 motherboards in the channel is not expected until late July, according to sources at Taiwanese motherboard vendors.
In addition, the actual number of defective 915 chipsets might be higher than was previously estimated, which would delay production ramps at local motherboard makers, said the sources." -
SiS and XGI snap up graphics chip orders from Dell
Published: Friday, July 9, 2004 | By: Dennis"Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) and its 45%-owned affiliate XGI Technology have both reportedly received increased orders for graphics chips from Dell with volume shipments starting in the third quarter, according to sources close to the deals."
This part at the bottom is kind of funny.
"Dell’s increased orders will substantially boost XGI’s revenues in the third quarter, the sources added." -

SATA RAIDing With Maxtor @ Bjorn3D
Published: Thursday, July 8, 2004 | By: Dennis"My first experience with RAID was definitely a good one thanks to the simple setup of Intel RAID and the good performance offered by the Maxtor hard drives. If you must have fast disk performance or redundancy, then I recommend taking a look the Maxtor SATA drives for your RAID setup."
As many of you know we've been using RAID setups here in the Ninjalane Labs for quite some time now and though many of the more vocal tech authorities would say IDE RAID is bogus it does increase performance and/or redundancy (on the hardware level) with the only serious drawback being the extra cash involved to buy the extra drives.
Although I agree with most of the article I would say the better RAID solution is with 10k RPM WD Raptor drives, though the Maxtor and Seagate SATA drives are good you can’t beat the speed of the Raptor. Then again I don’t need any more than 80Gigs of storage on my main workstation either. (btw: that’s what network servers are for) -

Doing a Little House Cleaning
Published: Tuesday, July 6, 2004 | By: DennisYou can always tell when a site maintenance is slipping when the affiliate links go to sites that either, don't link back to you, or are no longer online. As it would turn out we had about 20 of these such sites listed so, I removed them.
A call to Affiliates (aka Friends of Ninjalane)
If by chance you want your site on our affiliate link list drop me an email, the trained Ninjalane staff will then head on over, check for a return link, check to see that the site is viewable in Netscape/Mozilla based browsers, and doesn't suxX0r (i.e. good tech content, better than average grammar).
Provided that these conditions are met will translate into a link along the left.
