  • PolarFlo SF Water Block Review @ Tech-Mods

Published: Thursday, April 1, 2004 | By: Dennis

One thing I really like about PolarFlo waterblocks is the attention to detail in each and every waterblock, the finishes are just amazing though due to the increased cost I don’t think many watercooling enthusiasts will consider them a viable solution.
"The waterblocks I received were the all chrome "PolarFLO Basic System Set". They come in a wide variety of colors (Black, Blue, Red, Purple, Chrome, Copper and Gold) that will match almost any color scheme you have."

  • Intel likely to delay 90nm LGA775

Published: Monday, March 29, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Despite the appearance at CeBIT of motherboards supporting the LGA775 socket T Pentium 4 processors, sources at Taiwan’s PC makers are claiming that the new 90nm chips will be generally available in June, rather than as originally scheduled in May.

Intel is also likely to postpone deliveries of LGA775 processors to channel distributors to July from the original schedule in June, the sources said."

  • Chaintech Apogee AA5700U Review @ GruntvillE

Published: Monday, March 29, 2004 | By: Dennis

The Chaintech Apogee FX5700Ultra is a kicking card, check out our review of the Apogee AA5700U for comparison.
" It looks cool, but I'm afraid I didn't have much luck using the GOSU program. It would appear to adjust the clock speed, but it wouldn't maintain the speed if the program was shut down and then restarted. And none of the benchmarks I ran on the increased GOSU speeds appeared to score any higher."
Keep in mind that the GOSU is similar in design to what Gainward has been bundling with their video cards for quite some time now. It works the same way and only applies the "enhanced" settings when the program is running.

Personally I prefer to use the "Coolbits" registry hack for all of my overclocking needs.

  • GeForce FX 5700 Ultra with GDDR3 @ The Tech Report

Published: Monday, March 29, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Higher clock speeds and lower power consumption highlight the main benefits of GDDR3 memory over DDR2, but the FX 5700 Ultra only scratches the surface of GDDR3's capabilities. Samsung currently makes GDDR3 chips rated for operation at speeds up to 800MHz—300MHz faster than its best DDR2 chips. And even at 800MHz, Samsung's GDDR3 chips don't require more than 1.9V."
The chips are also very cool running and shouldn't initially require a heat spreader.

Aopen review samples are VERY hard to come by so be sure to check them out when you can. happy smile
"The AOpen AK86-L, which sounds more like an assault rifle than a motherboard, aims to provide the best price-to-performance ratio yet. Let's see how it does."
    Ratta tat tat.

  • SilverStone Gloria TJ-04 @ FastLaneHW

Published: Monday, March 29, 2004 | By: Dennis

I really like this case, the design is clean and you get a good amount of features like 120mm fans front and back. The only downside is airflow, I don't see any openings to feed the big fans.
"One really neat feature about this case is the latch system on the side door. This makes it easy to attach and detach the side door without even using thumbscrews. Simply flip the latch (second image) and pull off the door. When it's in the first position, it will be locked, and the door won't end up falling off. However, SilverStone includes two thumbscrews for the door."

  • Audiotrak Prodigy 7.1 Review @ BigBruin

Published: Monday, March 29, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Not detailed in the list of specifications above is the fact that the Prodigy is based on the VIA Vinyl Envy24HT Audio Controller, which explains why VIA is the sponsor of this review."
I like what Audiotrak brings to the table, lots of connections, red pcb, gold contacts, though I'm not a huge fan of the Envy24HT. It’s not a bad chip but when you think about it why spend the bux on a high-end sound card when you could just as easily buy a mobo that comes with the same sound processor onboard.

  • Intel Pentium 4 3.4E @ accelenation

Published: Monday, March 29, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Today Intel brings us one step closer to 3.6 GHz by introducing the Prescott at 3.4 GHz. While the Prescott 3.4 GHz was officially launched with the Prescott 3.2 and Northwood 3.4, there were some problems getting the processor out on the market; till now."
Always an issue, never a solution.
