NL: Review Block - BFG Tech Ed
Published: Tuesday, July 6, 2004 | By: DennisSay it ain’t so plucky say it ain’t so.. Yes its true, two count them, two BFG Tech reviews on the same day. This is some kind of record.
"Two DVI ports are standard on the BFG GeForce 6800Ultra OC. No doubt there will be many of you that will be excited by this as it makes using two DVI panels a snap. HardOCP"
- BFGTech GeForce 6800Ultra OC @ HardOCP
- BFG Tech GeForce 6800 GT OC @ Bjorn3D
BFG has made a pretty big name for themselves over the past few years. For instance, while chatting with a few video card mfgs at Computex the question of "why don't you review BFG cards?" always seemed to come up.
Well to answer the question consider the following.
a) Never asked for a review sample
b) They love HardOCP
c) Aside from the name BFG cards are not that special (IMO)
That isn't to say I "wouldn't" review a BFG video card, if they asked me. -
Cool-Matic FX for NVIDIA 5900 Series @ nVPlanet
Published: Tuesday, July 6, 2004 | By: DennisFor those looking to watercool their FX 5900 one of the only "complete" solutions is this one by innovatek that cools the GPU and onboard memory. It's a pretty snazzy little unit but won't fit with many aftermarket watercooling setups due to the smaller hose size.

- Cool-Matic FX Part 2
Gainward also is selling a version of this cooler with their CoolFX line of "Overclocked" video cards. -
NL: Review Block - Use HTML properly edition
Published: Tuesday, July 6, 2004 | By: DennisHere is another edition of news (i.e. Reviews) from around the web sans-comments. (cept for the stupid ones with gators around the URL.
Cooling
- ThermalRight SLK948U Heatsink Review @ GruntvillE
- Swiftech MCX462-V Heatsink @ hard-h20
- Swiftech MCW5000-P @ Virtual-Fusion
"Gator" URL Enabled Case Reviews
One thing I hate is when sites send in their news with gators around the URL (<>). I mean what is the point, the email isn't HTML and even if it was having <>'s around the URL isn't going to help make the link more clickable.
Since I doubt either of the two sites in question prolly will never read this I must apologize for the vent.

Welcome Back
Published: Tuesday, July 6, 2004 | By: DennisAs it would turn out July 5th here in the states was considered a holiday (since July 4th was on Sunday) so like any good American I took the day off.
I have to admit I really enjoy a good afternoon siesta. -
Happy 4th of July

Stop using IE, its bad for you
Published: Friday, July 2, 2004 | By: DennisWe posted some information about this a few days ago and just figured it was good enough to repost.
"The Department of Homeland Security's U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team touched off a storm this week when it recommended for security reasons using browsers other than Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer.
The Microsoft browser, the government warned, cannot protect against vulnerabilities in its Internet Information Services (IIS) 5 server programs, which a team of hackers allegedly based in Russia has exploited with a Java script that is appended to Web sites." -
Leadtek WinFast A400 @ Digit-Life
Published: Friday, July 2, 2004 | By: DennisFor those of you looking to Leadtek for your GeForce 6800 needs you might want to check this article out. The review covers what is actually under that huge heatsink along with some of the technical aspects of the card.
"What can we see? First, 6800 Ultra is fully based on the reference design, as was expected. Second, GeForce 6800 design is close to 6800 Ultra, although there are some significant differences, especialy concerning the PSU as the card contents with one power connector." -
The Basics of Water Cooling pt2 @ Geeks Online
Published: Friday, July 2, 2004 | By: DennisIt would seem that this edition of "The Basics of Water Cooling" is focusing on the CPU blocks that are available from various companies and what they need to run. From what I've seen the info is all correct and up to date though doesn't mention anything about how the blocks are attached.

Coolermaster Cavalier Review @ ExtremeMhz
Published: Friday, July 2, 2004 | By: Dennis"The Cavalier actually comes in eight different versions. It can come in either black and silver versions of a desktop or a tower, and with or without the large analog dial. The model we have here is the Cavalier 1, the tower version with the dial."
The door on this case is also very thick and rivals ones found on Silverstone cases. The only thing that is a little sketchy is the actual case material, it doesn't seem to be made with the same attention to detail. -
Security statistics show surprising finds
Published: Thursday, July 1, 2004 | By: Dennis"For example, Windows security holes generally receive a lot of press because of the software's popularity, but the statistics show that Windows is not the subject of significantly more advisories than other operating systems."
It's true, the article goes over the "major" O/S's and discovers that they are all about the same when it comes to security holes.
