Titan TTC-D9TBCu35-R1 Review @ FrostyTech
Published: Thursday, January 8, 2004 | By: Dennis"The thick Titan fan rotates at 2300RPM, and draws in about 0.13A. The 80mm fan is naturally very quiet whatever the temperature of your PC (there is no temperature control sensor)."
I wouldn't have posted this little review except that the fan on this heatsink is hella cool and crystal clear. 80x80x38!! -
Corsair TwinX-1024 XMS4400 Review @ GruntvillE.com
Published: Thursday, January 8, 2004 | By: Dennis" The trickiest part of testing this new memory is the daunting task of finding a system capable of reaching 275 MHz on the front side bus. The Corsair people admitted they had difficulty putting together a reliable test system and I certainly did as well. My trusty 3GHz Intel preformed admirably, but even after several small pacts with the Devil and icing my water cooling reservoir I still couldn’t get a clean post beyond 267 MHz (4GHz)."
I think it is pretty safe to say that XMS4400 memory modules are designed for extreme speed though many reviewers have not looked at big picture. Current DDR500 modules come with very relaxed timings much like the first DDR500 modules so in theory with DDR550 modules you can run much tighter timings at DDR500 speeds.
When it comes to memory modules if the SPD info is configured correctly the timings will scale automatically. -
Snow Stopped CES 2004 Las Vegas Starts
Published: Thursday, January 8, 2004 | By: DennisWe kind of dropped the ball on CES this year so instead of attending we have resorted to watching from the sidelines. Based on what I found online there should be quite a turn out, then again CES is occurring over a weekend so who really knows.
I have been told that one of the more interesting activities that will be the two DFI LanParties at the Riviera and Stardust. These are real competitions; if you’re in the area I’d suggest that you check them out.
I need to start lining up some sponsors so I can begin to afford to attend these things. Umm any takers? -
Internal memo confirms IBM move to Linux
Published: Wednesday, January 7, 2004 | By: Dennis"The memo, titled On Demand Initiatives, from IBM CIO Bob Greenberg, and forwarded to us by an insider at IBM on the West Coast, is encouraging senior execs at Big Blue to switch to a Linux desktop by the end of this year."
Any guess as to what disto they will go with?? -
Yep Still Snowing
Published: Wednesday, January 7, 2004 | By: DennisThis may be of no surprise to anyone but I felt an update was in order.
It is still snowing!! -
Maddog 8-Channel Sound Card Review @ Tweaknews
Published: Wednesday, January 7, 2004 | By: DennisOptical in and out has become standard on most high end sound cards to date (even back in 2001) though finding speakers that will accept optical audio is not the easiest task.
"The "Digital cable" included is a fiber optic cable, which will allow an extremely large bandwidth between the soundcard and audio device."
Jep, extremely large, and don't forget clean, crisp, and clear. -
Vantec Vortex HDD Cooler Review @ BigBruin
Published: Wednesday, January 7, 2004 | By: Dennis"To prevent closed case temperatures from affecting the thermal results of the Vortex, the cooler was tested in a non-case environment. The room temperature was held at a constant 78° Fahrenheit (26° Celsius) during all tests. Below is a picture of the tested hard disk, a new 80GB Maxtor Diamond Max 9 Plus."
I like the look of this cooler though the squirrel cage blower located on the front hardly would provide any sufficient cooling except at the very front of the drive. -
Chaintech Zenith ZNF3-150 Review @ PCStats
Published: Wednesday, January 7, 2004 | By: Dennis" These days appearance seems to play an ever increasing role in consumer purchases, and so I'm sure that's why the Chaintech Zenith ZNF3-150 is spruced up with matching orange slots. Additionally, all exposed metal around the I/O ports is gold plated; just makes it look more attractive doesn't it?"
The author makes some good points about the new Athlon64 platform and mentions that competition between chipset vendors has tapered off since they all perform about the same putting more emphasis on chipset core logic than on board performance.
Feel free to check out our review of the Chaintech ZNF3-150 for comparison. -
Dual Fan HDD Cooler Review @ OrbitalOC
Published: Wednesday, January 7, 2004 | By: DennisSome people don't feel that Harddrive cooling is all that important though with proper cooling you can effectively extend the life of your harddrive making for quieter operation and a reduced failure rate. This aluminum under drive cooler looks to be a solid part though seems to lack sufficient exhaust areas.

GeForce FX 5700 Ultra Reviews @ Digit-Life
Published: Wednesday, January 7, 2004 | By: Dennis"All the cards look equal, though it's difficult to give a palm of supremacy to the 5700 Ultra based cards as the FX 5900XT have nearly the same price. I just want to say that Sparkle's card is equipped with VIVO and ships in a beautiful box.
Inno3D's card will be cheaper than the rest, but it has a good software suite and boasts of the effective backlight."
I also like the Inno3D card since it is the only one of the 3 tested that doesn't completely follow the reference design. Not completely sold on the UV reactive fan since it will in effect be completely hidden in any running system.
