Gainward FX 5200 Powerpack Review @ ModFathers
Published: Monday, September 1, 2003 | By: DennisAre you looking for a good inexpensive card to run that second monitor with, well the FX 5200 PCI might be just what you are looking for. (even though ANY pci card will work )
"Though this will not be why most people will get this card. For those of you who use multi-screens, you will understand when I say that it amazes me that people can function on only one."
I agree, and until a nice 23" LCD is available for a reasonable price the dual monitor desktop is here to stay. -
Mushkin PC3200 Level II Review @ Extreme Overclocking
Published: Monday, September 1, 2003 | By: Dennis"The memory uses copper heat spreaders with the Mushkin Logo to help dissipate the heat generated by the chips. Many enthusiasts feel that heat spreaders greatly aid in overclocking, but in our experience, we have had about the same results with or without heat spreaders unless extreme voltages like 3V+ are applied. This is only from our experiences though and may differ for other users. If the heat spreaders are removed, it will void the warranty and we highly recommend not removing them unless you really want to waste a lifetime warranty."
Yes it is official, heatspreaders don't do anything to help performance but they do look sweet and give a little sense of security when installing the modules.
btw check out the ABIT IC7 MAX3 (875P) Preview photos while you are there. -

FX5600Ultra vs Radeon9600Pro @ Digital Daily
Published: Monday, September 1, 2003 | By: DennisHere is a little performance review for the curious few. The review is a little on the short side but has some pretty pictures.
"As our tests will show, the original version of the 5600Ultra was unable to perform on par with Radeon 9600 Pro, so another version offering increased core speed was released, and we'll refer to it as the NV31 new core. " -
Gigabyte GA-8S648FX Review @ Legit Reviews
Published: Monday, September 1, 2003 | By: Dennis"I honestly don't see a big market for this SiS 648FX board in the lifespan of the Intel P4 "C" processors. It just does not offer the kind of performance you get with the I865/I875 chipsets and their Dual-Channel Memory support."
I am not sure what to think of this board. It isn't designed with an overclocker in mind and doesn't appear to offer anything that you can't already get with an i845PE. So I think the quote sums everything up. -
Lack of News; Phj34r!
Published: Monday, September 1, 2003 | By: DennisSorry for the apparent lack of news but it is a holiday here in the US and I opted to take the time to get caught up.
Don't phj34r though I'll get some new stuff posted for you shortly, and if you are lucky a new review as well. -
SARS may have helped make September-October a good time to visit
Published: Thursday, August 28, 2003 | By: Dennis"Most people know that Computex, Asia’s largest international computer show, has been delayed from its regular slot at the beginning of June and will now be held in the week beginning September 22. Computex will be an interesting show for both its attendees and exhibitors, but there are several other shows in September and October that are worth looking at and including in a comprehensive itinerary."
Ninjalane will be at Computex this year, so if you would like to meet up just let me know. -
Soltek launched K8T800-based mainboard: SL-K8AV2-RL
Published: Thursday, August 28, 2003 | By: DennisSoltek launched their K8T800 board today that supports the new Athlon64 processors. In typical Soltek manner they also announced a name for this product called "Black Thunder". The included photo shows a jet black PCB with violet expansion slots (which are most likely leftovers from the SL-86SPE-L).
The board also shows the processor being located where the northbridge normally is with memory slots located across the top of the motherboard. -
Finally Made it Above 100K
Published: Thursday, August 28, 2003 | By: DennisMost people out there prolly have no clue as to what the hell I'm talking about but after many months of research and a few tweaks Ninjalane.com has finally gotten a three month Alexa ranking above 100K. For the most part this doesn't mean a thing to anyone but I am still going to thank everyone for helping make this a reality. Some may ask why the hell did it take so long, well the site has been online for quite some time and up until a few months ago I couldn't give a shit about Alexa and its bogus ranking system.
Anyhow I digress.
The next milestone will be when Ninjalane.com is above 75K followed by 50K. Once that happens I'll be one happy camper.
Alexa comments are always welcome, just don’t say anything stupid. -
Abit IC7-G Max II Advance Review @ Tweaknews
Published: Wednesday, August 27, 2003 | By: DennisThis would appear to be the second generation of IC7 from Abit with a few upgrades over the original; it still uses the Canterwood chipset though.
"With the different configurations seen above, I will be testing the IC7-G clock for clock against the Chaintech Zenith Canterwood motherboard I reviewed previously. Everything else is absolutely identical right down to the software and drivers. Also included is the overclocked 2.4C at 3.49Ghz to show the reader what kind of performance inprovements you can get from a high overclock."
You'll have to check the site for the results.
