ASUS A7N8X Review @ OcCC
Published: Monday, January 20, 2003 | By: DennisThe site name was waaaaaaayy to long and to add insult to injury check out the disclaimer at the top.
"Editor's Note: This is a reader submitted review. In other words, it was done entirely by the reader (and/or his group) and with his own resources. It does not reflect on the viewpoint on any of the Overclockers Club Canada staff, nor has this particular product been touched on by any OCC Canada staff member. "
Nothing like jumping to conclusion before the conclusion was concluded. -
Overclocking your iPaq Pocket PC
Published: Monday, January 20, 2003 | By: Dennis"The PXA250 has a variety of clocks in the system that are configurable and interrelated. I just spent time to find the combo that gave the best performance while being 100% stable. There are several faster combos that appear stable but don't work under full load or are flaky with storage cards. Clear Speed has been tested for weeks and was started before I heard of anyone looking into the concept."
People have been doing this sort of thing with their Palm for quite some time now, every little bit of speed helps. -
AOpen AX45-4D Max Review @ OCworkbench
Published: Friday, January 17, 2003 | By: DennisDual Channel DDR is where it is at these days and aside from cost I don't see any major downfall to either of the Pentium 4 options available.
"AX45-4D Max is AOPEN's SiS 655 Dual Channel DDR board. As we know, SiS 655 is a direct competitor to Granite Bay or Intel E7205. As a cheaper alternative to the Granite Bay board, this AX45-4D Max features an amount of nice features. AX45-4D Max uses the latest Dual Channel DDR chipset from SiS. This new chipset for the P4 leverages on the bandwidth hungry P4 for utmost performance. "
So far it would seem that AOpen is the only company making a SiS655 board. -
K8 to Debut in April?
Published: Thursday, January 16, 2003 | By: DennisThat is what Digitimes is reporting.
"Earlier than the market-expected schedule of May or June, new-generation K8 processors from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) are expected to be launched in April, at around the same time as Intel’s 846 (codenamed Springdale) chipsets, industry sources revealed."
This would mean about 300,000 units by second quarter if their timetable is met. -
Abit IT7-MAX2 v2.0 Review @ digital-daily
Published: Thursday, January 16, 2003 | By: DennisThis board has been in the market for quite some time and despite the influx of Dual Channel designs the PE chipset is still a viable solution for your Pentium 4. There is only 5 slots on this board, one being the AGP, so expandability could be an issue. Then again this is only true if you completely ignore all of the onboard goodies.

Intel 90-nm Process by Mid-2003
Published: Thursday, January 16, 2003 | By: Dennis"On the positive front, Intel is moving full speed ahead with its push towards 90-nm process technologies and 300-mm wafer substrates. In the past, Intel has publicly stated that its 90-nm process would be up and running sometime in the second half of 2003. "
The Prescott processor won't be far behind. -
Altec Lansing ATP3 2.1 Review @ RadiativeNZ
Published: Thursday, January 16, 2003 | By: DennisThough it seems strange that someone would do a review of a 2.1 speaker system the format makes sense for your typical desktop usage.
"It may seem unusual to be looking at 2.1 systems, when currently everything seems to progressing towards 5+ speakers, however when you're looking to listen to music in true stereo sound, there is nothing quite like a good 2.1 system."
Though I have a 5.1 Altec system on my desk I hardly use it. The way I see it if you want the surround sound speaker system put it in the home theater where it belongs. If the home theater is actually your computer, you need a bigger TV. -
AOpen AX45-4D Max Review @ HardTecs4u
Published: Wednesday, January 15, 2003 | By: DennisStrange name, interesting results.
[hehe]The HardTecs[/hehe] have reviewed one of the newest motherboards from AOpen using the new SiS655 Dual Channel DDR333 chipset. So far this is the first board that I've seen using the SiS655 and based on the performance numbers I don't think it will be the last
The site is in German so for the English speaking crowd I have a translated version provided by google. -
l337 5p34k for the 0ldsk00l
Published: Wednesday, January 15, 2003 | By: DennisI was sent this link today and almost puked. First of all the editor is mocking l33t speak as some sort of online slang used by the youth to confuse the old. Then what is worse, the editor confuses "AOL" and "CompuServe" speak as being l33t! I'm all wft!, nobody uses 4 to mean for unless they are being lame.
After reading though some of the reader comments and decided that trying to correct the writer wouldn't get me much further than yelling on the Jerry Springer show.So I shall refrain.
Be well and l34rn d4 l33+ -
