  • FAQ Number 3 on Windows XP

Published: Monday, July 9, 2001 | By: Dennis

Many of us are pretty skeptical about the next release of Windows from Microsoft, Windows Me was a total failure IMO, it takes forever to install and really causes more problems than it is worth. I believe that XP will be the same. Check out the latest on XP at NT Compatible.

Talk about getting your "I Must Mod Everything" bug. Here is a full-blown mod of a SurfBoard cable modem. Actually the same make and model that I use.

Not really a needed mod but an interesting one to say the least.

  • IBM in suppport of GPL

Published: Thursday, July 5, 2001 | By: Dennis

In recent weeks Microsoft has voiced against the General Public License saying it is "anti-American and destructive to intellectual property". In retaliation IBM has voiced their support of the (GPL) and even pledged to spend a billion to further the development of GNU/Linux. I think this is a major step in the right direction.

Speaking of Linux have you gotten your copy of Slackware 8 yet??

  • New Gainward Video Cards

Published: Monday, July 2, 2001 | By: Dennis

Toms Hardware has been busy in the video card review world. This time they take a look at some Nvidia MX400 cards, two of which are new Gainward cards both in TwinView formats.

The first one here comes equipped with 3.8ns memory the second one here is slightly slower at 4ns. Both cards come at a default speed but are easily overclockable by enabling the "Enhanced Mode". For a complete list of features see the Gainward website. I like the pretty red one myself.

  • XML Content at Ninjalane

Published: Saturday, June 30, 2001 | By: Dennis

It is official Ninjalane is running via XML. We are still in the conversion process but all of the content in the reviews section of this site is generated from a single XML file per review. This will allow me to quickly update the website and cut my editing time in half during those updates.

Within the next week the projects section will also be completely XML driven as well. The only drawback to a change this late in the history of Ninjalane.com is that when I remove old files many of our visitors will get a 404 error, "phile not phound". So, if you find one please let me know at this address Webmaster

  • Unix-Style Sockets with XP

Published: Thursday, June 28, 2001 | By: Dennis

Raw sockets among other things will allow you to spoof your IP address. In recent times you had to be running a *nx style to do that but it looks like times are about to change so, with some creative programming you can start cracking sites without a trace.

Even if you aren't a hacker/cracker type you can still be assured worry free surfing unless you go to yahoo.com, they track everything - even after you leave the domain.
