  • Linux Based Gaming

Published: Tuesday, March 20, 2001 | By: Dennis

Linux gaming console, what a concept.

With more and more games being ported to Linux (i.e. Doom, Quake) the platform looks to be very versatile.

I wonder what will happen once the Linux hacker types get a hold of it.

  • The World's First Dual AMD Board

Published: Monday, March 19, 2001 | By: Dennis

Tyan has done it again, this time with the first dual processor AMD motherboard.
Tyan has been known for building high quality motherboards for Mid-range to High-end Workstations and Servers. Knowing this, it is no wonder why they wouldn't jump at the opportunity of building a dually AMD system.

  • Best Looking Game Ever

Published: Saturday, March 17, 2001 | By: Dennis

A sneak peak site has been established for Epic's new game Unreal II. I've heard rumors about how great this game is supposed to be and after looking at the screenshots and concept art I have started to believe them.

  • New Motherboards from Freeway

Freeway just posted two new motherboards on their website.

Both of the new motherboards are single processor units with onboard everything. Really the only difference is the processor configurations. One is a Socket 370 and the other is a Socket A.

  • CPL Championship changes games

Published: Wednesday, March 14, 2001 | By: Dennis

The CPL announced that they are changing the main game this year from Quake 3 to Counter-Strike. For as long as I can remember Id games have been the center of attention at the CPL and now all of that is about to change.

Another hot item this year is the $150.000 in cash prizes. $50,000 of that goes to first place.

  • Customize Ninjalane.com

Published: Tuesday, March 13, 2001 | By: Dennis

In an effort to make Ninjalane stand out from the crowd I have started adding some "custom" features. The first of these features is color scheme. There are 4 colors to choose from and when a choice is made a cookie will store your decision.

As of this writing only two pages are using the themes. In the next few weeks I plan to expand this to include all of the top-level pages, and then maybe the rest of the site.

  • Hercules Prophet 4500

Published: Monday, March 12, 2001 | By: Dennis

Hercules has announced a new video card that is rumored to be faster than the Nvidia GeForce2 MX and in some cases faster than the GF2 Ultra.

The Prophet 4500 is using the Kyro II chip with 64MB 128Bit SDRAM memory. The RamDac is clocked at 270MHz, which is really one of its major downfalls, though not the only one. The chip only supports AGP 2x.

Regardless from some of the initial benchmarks show this card to be a strong contender for the mid-priced video card market. You can read more about this card and the technology behind it at Riva Station and at Gamers Depot

  • Remove those ICQ banners.

Published: Monday, March 12, 2001 | By: Dennis

I've seen quite a few hacks to remove the banners from your ICQ message boxes but this one is by far the most complete. If you use ICQ I suggest that you read this.

  • Build your own 1U server

Published: Monday, March 12, 2001 | By: Dennis

I saw this at the virtualhideout this last weekend. I know this is somewhat old but the project is pretty dang cool. Using an old 486, Slackware Linux, some plexiglass, and a Compact Flash "SmartMedia" card they have created a 1U rackmounted webserver.

Reminds me of the "Bare Bones" webserver that I created just this last week.
