Heat Spreaders, The Myth @ ModFathers

"There is a lot of speculation as to whether or not the heatspreaders actually do anything. Are they merely a way for the manufacturer to put a shiny cover on an otherwise bland looking chip"
I have always been curious about heatspreaders and over the years I have come to the conclusion that yes, heatspreaders do something.
- Do they help overclocking? maybe.
- Do they help stability? yes.
- Do they look cool? yes.
- Do they give you a layer of handling protection of the module? yes.
- Are they really a product of a Rambus marketing stunt? The jury is still out.
