  • Touring The Chernobyl Nuclear Accident Site In 2010 @ Phoronix

Published: Thursday, April 8, 2010 | By: Will

I will be the first to say this is not hardware related, but game related this is. We have all enjoyed the Stalker series of games, and seeing so many of these pictures reminds us just how accurate the games are to the real place.

"I just returned to the United States after being in Ukraine the past five days over Easter weekend. The purpose of this trip was to explore the site of the Chernobyl nuclear accident and surrounding areas -- Kyiv, Pripyat, the Red Forest, etc. Contrary to some initial beliefs, it was not an April Fools' Joke. Due to the great interest in Chernobyl among those interested in science and technology whether it be due to the fascination with nuclear power or finding Chernobyl popularized by video games, documentaries, and the like, I have published my collection of these photographs of Chernobyl showing what the area looks like in 2010 -- just days prior to the 24th anniversary of this catastrophic disaster -- along with some of my thoughts and information collected from this journey."

So sit back and check this out.worry smile Almost haunting to see.

  • NL: PC Game Reviews Roundup

Published: Wednesday, April 7, 2010 | By: Will

Here is some more PC games to keep us all happy.

    Metro 2033 (PC) @ GamingHeaven

"Ever since the first wave of games in the "Survival Horror" genre creators of such titles have looked to ramp up the scares, the tension and just exactly how horrific their creations can get. Metro 2033 has a huge advantage in this respect being based on a truly traumatic novel by Russian writer Dmitry Glukhovsky. In the usual bleak "mankind will eventually destroy itself" setting the protagonist of the game, Artyom, is one of a handful of survivors that were not killed during a nuclear holocaust."

    Damnation Game Review @ ocaholic

"Welcome to the 1920 of an alternative world. Out there in the streets you find high noon and machines and robots are steam powered. Also America has been at war now for over 40 years now and a guy called W. D. Prescott is trying to enslave everybody unter the flag of new america."
  • Western Digital VelociRaptor 600 GB Hard Disk Drive Review @ Hardware Secrets

Published: Wednesday, April 7, 2010 | By: Will

Western Digital has a new Series of Raptors for the SATA 6.0 standard. I guess it is time to read the review to see if a 10,000 RPM drive can use all of the extra bandwidth of SATA 6.0. I'm thinking it might not, but that is just me.

"Western Digital is releasing today two SATA-600 versions of their 10,000 rpm VelociRaptor hard disk drive, one with 450 GB and another with 600 GB. Let's see how the 600 GB model (a.k.a. WD6000HLHX) performs."

At the very least it is fast and now has lots more space being at 450GB and 600GB.happy smile

  • Thermaltake PWB 100 @ Bjorn3D

Published: Monday, April 5, 2010 | By: Will

Thermaltake has released a waterblock that might even get the watercooling superstars take notice. As with most main stream coolers this block uses 3/8" barbs, but just might be enough to get the job done.

"When we think of water blocks and of water cooling in general, we think of names like Danger Den, Koolance, EK, Heatkiller and D-Tek. At the bottom of our list is Coolermaster, Corsair and finally ThermalTake. These companies have been only been known for water blocks that barely cut the grade, a quick intro to water cooling, cheap easy to set up water cooling, and in most cases a good aircooler would out perform these types of water cooling.

Now since air coolers are getting outrageously overpriced, people who want to have good cooling and quiet operation, can venture into water cooling. ThermalTake has brought to us a rather unique CPU water block. This water block does not conform to their traditional designs and in fact performs quite well. It can be used as an upgrade from ThermalTake's Big Water series water cooling or as a separate block for those who want more of a customized water cooling set up for their computers."

    The insides look awesome.happy smile

This full cover block cooling has its core design based on the popular Maze blocks. Is the Summit is another winning block for Danger Den? Let's put this block through some paces and find out."

"Shopping for a motherboard can be arduous and complicated. In particular, the mountain of options available only adds to the challenge, especially when you analyze the different features of each board at various price points. Fret not system builder, HotHardware has recruited a small army of P55 motherboards in order to compare the features and performance of each..."

Published: Friday, April 2, 2010 | By: Will

If their is a card that we at Ninjalane would loveto abuse it would have to be the MSI HD5770 HAWK. The heatsink setup and the high quality parts might make for a serious HWBot number maker. Still no MSI 5770 have gone through the lab yet!

"After Mondays stunning Crossfire results, does the Twin Frozr on the MSI Hawk give even more headroom?"

That is okay for where MSI won't play Gigabyte will. So check out this awesome Radeon HD5770 card in our own review here.
