LSI MegaRAID SATA and SAS 9260-8i RAID Card Review @ Legit Reviews
Published: Tuesday, January 19, 2010 | By: WillHere is someting that might interest the guiys with extremely deep pockets and the need for seious Hard Drive speed. Using an Adaptec and a LSI RAID controller card to push the limits for the throughput of a SSD to incredible speeds.
"Besides the small file random read/write the LSI 9260-8i surpassed the Adaptec 5805 in nearly all the SSD tests while the two cards were roughly equal in the HDD tests. What really helps the LSI 9260-8i is the SAS/SATA 6Gbps support enabling maximum performance on upcoming storage drives. This will be quite important with SATA 6Gbps SSDs easily pushing 500MB/s in sequential reads. It is a close call between the two cards but consideration must also be taken regarding firmware maturity. The Adaptec 5805 has been on the market for a while but the LSI 9260-8i is still relatively immature. There is a possibility that the small file random read/write performance could be bolstered, making the Adaptec 5805 effectively obsolete..."
Enjoy the read.

Taking a Deep Look at NVIDIA's Fermi Architecture @ Techgage
Published: Monday, January 18, 2010 | By: DennisDetails of the biggest GPU release in NVIDIA history where released today both by members of the media and by NVIDIA itself. Techgage has posted some details of Fermi they obtained from a deep dive conference that occurred after CES.
It has taken a bit longer than we all had hoped, but last week, NVIDIA gathered members of press together to dive deep into its upcoming Fermi architecture, where it divulged all the features that are set to give AMD a run for its money. In addition, the company also discussed PhysX, GPU Compute, developer relations and a lot more.
Now we just sit back and wait for the GPU to be released. -
Pepsi Throwback - Kickass Logo Edition
Published: Monday, January 18, 2010 | By: DennisThis is a little old and slightly off topic but I wanted to share the great thing Pepsi has done with the latest "Throwback". It is a well known fact that I almost always have a Pepsi in hand so it is no wonder that I would get excited to see something from my High School days come back, if not for a limited time.
Yes I am talking about the traditional Pepsi logo, this was before the Pepsi "ball" logo and long before the squished up, smacked, flipped, and reversed logo we see today. If you don't believe me, well here is proof that Pepsi was sold with the old logo and even back then was made with high fructose corn syrup. (not pictured)Due to all the Throwback tweets, Facebook fan pages, videos, blog posts, pics & pleas, Pepsi Throwback is back for a limited time only! From December 28, 2009 to February 22, 2010, Pepsi and Mountain Dew Throwback will be available again with the same formula and real sugar, but this time with an even more rad vintage look!
The big question is where to buy this stuff, as with anything limited edition it can be difficult to find so your best bet is to hit the local grocery store and look for the smaller display featuring the red white and blue box. -
NVIDIA's Fermi GF100 Facts & Opinions @ HardOCP
Published: Monday, January 18, 2010 | By: WillThe new NVidia GPU is just around the corner for release. So let's start getting the rumormill fired up. Well that was going to be the normal run till this article came out and killed some of that fun off.
"The GF100 is NVIDIA's next big investment, and it is yet to be seen if it will pay off for them. The GF100 is more than just a GPU for gaming; we all know that based on the recent information that has been given. However, don't let this GP-GPU nonsense fool you, NVIDIA made it clear to us...finally...the GF100 is built for gaming."
I real killjoy here.

Mushkin DDR3-1600 7-9-7-24 Blackline Memory Review @ Legit Reviews
Published: Friday, January 15, 2010 | By: WillNinjalane has a very short list of RAM manufactures that we love to personally use in our machines, and Mushkin always seesm to be on high on the list. Let's check out what this site has to say about them.
"If however you are like me and enjoy overclocking every bit of kit you can ever lay your grubby paws on then the Mushkin kit is definitely a good buy. I don't often get to play with mid-range memory kits, in fact it has been a while since my boards have seen under DDR3-2000C7, but I was impressed by these Mushkin Blackline modules. It was especially a lot of fun when I loosened up tRCD and the kit really began to scale, each notch up was a blast and I enjoyed the sensation of exploring what I felt was uncharted territory. Lately it has felt like all I do when overclocking is plug in pre-tested values for memory speeds and timings, this was a breath of fresh air for me..."
I do like the timings on these.

Cooler Master CM 690 II Advanced Case Review @ Hardware Secrets
Published: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 | By: WillIt is always a blast to see an old case get new life with a new revision. Trust me though this case is more than just a new revision Cooler Master as really listened to it's fans on this one. This comes straight from the Cooler Master guys.
"Cooler Master CM 690 is the most popular case from Cooler Master and because of its popularity the manufacturer decided to revamp it. The new version, called CM 690 II, will be available on stores this month and is available in two versions, "regular" (USD 80, a.k.a. RC-692-KKN3-GP) and "Advanced" (USD 100, a.k.a. RC-692-KKN2-GP). Let's see what is new and the differences between the two versions. "
I think this is going to be evem more popular than the first version.

Ninjalane CES Coverage Blog Style
Published: Wednesday, January 13, 2010 | By: DennisHello there, as you can imagine CES was crazy busy as usual and wouldn't you know it when we get back from the show there is even more to do. Luckly I had a fellow reviewer with me this year and he has been able to post some CES details for you all to see.
Overall CES was great, attendance was up, however exhibits were down so there wasn't much to see on the actual show floor (as it relates to stuff we cover). As it would turn out the majority of the stuff we cover could be found in the area hotel that almost takes a RSVP to find, but we were there!
CES Coverage as seen by Will West
- CES Day 1 Show Coverage
- CES Day 2 Show Coverage
- CES Day 3 Show Coverage
- CES Day 4 Show Coverage
- CES Day 5 Show CoverageTraditional show coverage is still pending (as I still need to finish writing it up) so stay tuned.
You can also expect a short 2010 AEE (Adult Entertainment Expo) write up as well including some pics that Will wasn't brave enough to post

Intel Clarkdale vs AMD Phenom II with 785G – Mainstream Showdown @ Madshrimps
Published: Tuesday, January 12, 2010 | By: WillHere is a neat little article hitting on a very strong subject for many people. Which processor is going to give me the best bang for my buck on a limited budget? This a tough one to even answer, but I'm sure this article will shed some light on the subject.
"With the launch of Clarkdale by Intel, they have finally released a Nehalem for the masses, the Core i3 and i5 variations with integrated graphics are a direct competitor to the market segment currently held by AMD Phenom and Athlon CPUs. In this article we compare the performance of the IGP on the Intel Core i5 661 to and AMD system with 785G chipset."
Typing these things out while still being very tired from the trip sucks.

Soda fountains contained fecal bacteria, study found
Published: Monday, January 11, 2010 | By: DennisFor those that know me I am a HUGE Pepsi drinker, normally my soda intake comes from bottles and cans but lunch normally consists of a fountain drink. Some of the places around here take really poor care of their soda machines; in fact a Quiznoe's near my work tastes like mildew more than soda. If that can happen then it's no far stretch to find shit in there too.
Nearly half of the 90 beverages from soda fountain machines in one area in Virginia tested positive for coliform bacteria -- which could indicate possible fecal contamination, according to a study published in the January issue of International Journal of Food Microbiology.
So what can you do about that?? Well for those of you that have worked in a restaurant before think about how the company cleans their soda fountains. In most cases they just pull the nozzles out and soak them in soda water. Not really a cleaning process much less disinfection.
