  • AMD DirectX11 White Paper Released @ Legit Reviews

Published: Monday, June 29, 2009 | By: Will

Here is a good read from the marketing guys at AMD. With the intention of knocking the marketing guys at NVidia from changing the consumers mind about DX11. Wait a second doesn't that mean AMD is trying to sway our minds with there marketing on DX11.

"Some of the guys up in Toronto sent us an e-mail this morning and explained that DirectX 11 is important and we should take NVIDIA downplaying it with a grain of salt. It seems they are worried that the tried and true NVIDIA marketing machine will possibly start pumping out a lot of information to deflect and sway consumers. This is likely going to be the case as NVIDIA is rumored to be late to the game with DirectX 11 graphics cards and is going to have a rough time to get them released this calendar year. To help avoid this looming marketing battle, AMD has released a white paper that has been put together by AMD to showcase the importance of DirectX 11 and why it matters. They also gave us quick breakdown explaining that DX 11 is about efficiency..."

  • Asus HD 4770 Formula Edition @ Bjorn3D

Published: Monday, June 29, 2009 | By: Will

Living in the racing capital of the world will make me have a huge liking to heatsinks that look like Indy cars. Asus has the Formula version of the 4770 that looks just freakin awesome.

"Asus has long been considered one of the top manufacturers of all kinds of PC components, so it comes as no surprise that they have decided to make their own cooler for the brand new ATI HD 4770. They have called this card the Formula edition. Asus being the big company they are, have paid a lot of attention to detail on the heat sink design. I will explain a bit later on in the review. With this larger heat sink comes lower temperatures. Surely Asus geared this card for the mid range graphics card buyer who is looking to gain some performance by overclocking.

Just one look at the HD 4770 specs is enough to say the card is the perfect card to play all the latest games at decent settings without breaking the bank, so it would seem that the Asus 4770 Formula has its work cut out for it. Surely with the ability to cool the card better will lead to a higher overall overclock, thus increasing the cards performance even more. This is stacking up to be a tight competiton between this card, and its other ATI siblings, the 4670 and 4850."

Yes, I know it is more like a Formula 1 car, but it is close enough for me.tongue smile

  • World of Warcraft MEGA FAQ! @ OCModShop

Published: Monday, June 29, 2009 | By: Will

WoW is the juggernaut of games and on the PC it is one of the most played games ever. So here is a little information for those that have lived under a rock and know nothing about this game.

Warcraft is a beast. You must seriously consider if you're ready to take it on as if you were committing to banned substances. Levels, achievements, heavy multiplayer, many different builds to tinker with, a full economy, gear with no end, and just tons of things to collect for vanity, you really have no hope of having any other entertainment if you start playing WoW.

Yes, this game is extremely fun. If you like anything in gaming you will find something to like in this game, and no one can argue with the strength of the multiplayer, which is essentially 1/4 of the game unless you just love running dungeons and raids.

All I can say "WoW!" to all the things in this game.big grin smile

  • Inno3D GeForce GTX 295 Platinum (Single PCB) @ techPowerUp

Published: Sunday, June 28, 2009 | By: Dennis

Can there be such a thing as a worthless revision?  I think not and neither should you.

NVIDIA has silently introduced a new revision of their GeForce GTX 295. The new version crams everything onto a single PCB. While the performance characteristics have not changed, thermals, fan noise and power consumption did change indeed. Is the new single PCB GTX 295 a success or just an unimportant product revision?

In fact I may just buy one of these if someone will put it on a red PCB.  big grin smile

  • World of GOO - PC Review @ Gamepyre

Published: Thursday, June 25, 2009 | By: Will

Okay, okay this is all me here on this one. I usually collect a couple game reviews, but this one deserves it's own news post. This game just rocks out loud for the complete waste of time, and brain teasing fun.

"This game is all about the physics of things, even the physics of goo. Now, don't get me wrong. I'm not a physicist, but I have enough common sense and I've had enough education to learn the basics about gravity. And in 2-D Boy's World of Goo, you have to use common sense and apply very little necessary knowledge about gravity towards building incredible things out of goo. On the surface, the game is very basic: all you have to do is make the goo travel from point A to point B."

Got my i7 920 oc to 4Ghz. Check!
Got my GTX 285 in SLI. Check!
I'm ready to play World of GOO.big grin smile

  • GeIL Black Dragon DDR2 1066MHz dual channel kit review @ ModReactor

Published: Thursday, June 25, 2009 | By: Will

Ninjalane posted pics and information from Computex this year of these awesome looking RAM modules from Geil. Well now it is time to see a review on them in action.

"Geil Black Dragon DDR2 1066 is a cheap dual channel kit aimed mostly at gamers. You can expect out of it very stable work, nice performance and limited overclocking capabilities. Basically you get what you paid for (which mind you is less that for any of the other rival 1066MHz kits out there). One well positioned in its class product, that shines mostly with its price/performance ratio, still nowadays you'll get more from a 2x2GB gaming memory at even lower frequency. And indeed that is what we recommend you should do, unless of course that does not contradicts with your priorities in some way."

I love evil dragon RAM modules.big grin smile

  • ASUS Crosshair III Formula Motherboard Review @ Motherboards

Published: Thursday, June 25, 2009 | By: Will

Here is a sweet looking beast of a motherboard for the AMD platform. Once again Asus is raising the bar for enthusiast boards.

"ASUS has set a reputation among enthusiasts of offering high-priced excellent performing gaming motherboards of choice with their Republic Of Gamers motherboards and the CROSSHAIR III Formula is an excellent example of its breed. The board overclocked to 3.21GHz from the default 2.6GHz a 23% overclock that was completely stable. The board also has the features you want from an AMD board including support for AM3 Phenom II CPUs, an LCD POSTER, the ability to "Level Up" your CPU with the flick of a button and onboard Start, Reset and MemOK buttons on the board. The one negative on this board is the lack of more than two PCI Express x16 slots as the flexibility of more slots offers more choices for the gamer. Otherwise the CROSSHAIR III Formula board is excellent in every way from features, performance and stability. This board is a serious Hot Product as it has great features and excels in performance."

    I want one!big grin smile

  • Home Theatre PC and Ripping Station Guide @ Tweaktown

Published: Thursday, June 25, 2009 | By: Will

Here is a cool guide for all of you guys out there with your shiny new HD TV's and your serious media collection..

"So, you have the big 1080p Hi-Def TV, the awesome surround system and a DVD and music collection that puts HMV to shame. You could throw together some parts in a fancy case and make yourself a home theatre PC, but that's so 2008. Instead, let's spruce it up by getting your HTPC to copy your precious polycarbonates to a whopping big disk!

With the introduction of 1TB+ HDDs over the last couple of years, the prices have undergone the usual jostling and competitive dropping and are now in the region of extremely affordable; so there's no excuse not to own one."

I still need to build myself one of these.

  • EVGA X58 3X SLI Classified Motherboard Review @ Motherboards

Published: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 | By: Dennis

This might be the most talked about X58 motherboard in existance and for good reason, its expensive, comes with a ton of features, and overclocks like crazy.

EVGA put a serious amount of time, energy and effort into the design of this motherboard, and it shows in all the features and extras this motherboard has. This is no amateur product, in fact it's really a motherboard that is geared toward overclocking professionals who want the quality components, and overclocking capabilities the new 3X SLI Classified has to offer. This motherboard is a bit on the pricey side and only those who are looking  or the highest of the high-end motherboard will find themselves buying this board. The board looks absolutely great too and has ample room for  any after market CPU coolers, which on a board like this is a very good design implementation.

We got to see the board in semi action during CES, check out the photos in our CES show coverage.

  • AM2 Mainboards with OnBoard-Graphics - Roundup II @ TweakPC

Published: Tuesday, June 23, 2009 | By: Dennis

So what good is onboard graphics?  In the gaming world, not much.  However if you're looking to build a PC for mom or something for that big screen TV you might want to consider it.

Mainboards with graphics onboard are not expensive anymore. We took a look at the performance, stability and features in our second part of the roundup.

Funn,  none of the graphics enabled boards we have reviewed are listed.
