  • Microsoft may soon drop VISTA

Published: Monday, May 4, 2009 | By: Dennis

I'm going to say this is the media trying to throw out rumors in hopes they will become true.  While it makes no sense to keep an aging OS around once the upgrade is available that is rarely the case with MS since most of their money comes from OEM sales.

It will be a good "wait and see" so pull out the popcorn! big grin smile

REDMOND, Wash., May 4 (UPI) -- U.S. software giant Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) may stop selling its Windows Vista operating system as soon as an upgraded version is available, a company manager said.

The company is "still not sure if (computer manufacturers) will be able to ship Vista once Windows 7 is made available," General Manager Richard Francis wrote in a recent e-mail, IDG News reported Monday.

  • CPU3D Review: Palit Geforce GTS 250 (1Gb GDDR3)

Published: Friday, May 1, 2009 | By: Dennis

Our first review in recent months of an NVIDIA based graphics card was a reference design from Palit for the GTS 250.  The card was excellent and performed well however the plain jane card really didn't scream "Palit".  Later we found that the real GTS 250 would look considerably different.

Check out the review the heatsink design and PCB color are just awe inspiring. cool smile

  • CSX Diablo 6GB DDR3-2000 @ PureOverclock

Published: Friday, May 1, 2009 | By: Dennis

These are some pretty cool looking modules and feature the now "extra tall" style of heatspreader.

The design of these Diablo modules is very well done, they are very sleek and sport some rather unique heatspreaders, coloured in a matte black finished and accented with red detailing that again continues the Diablo theme and aesthetic. CSX has done an excellent job of capturing a very refined and modern look while conveying a recognizable and unique feel. The colour scheme would perfectly complement an ASUS Rampage II Extreme or Foxconn Blood Rage motherboards in our opinion.

Black and red, of course they will look good on the Bloodrage happy smile

  • Eteknix Competition Faking Update @ XSReviews

Published: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 | By: Will

Grab the popcorn, and sit down for this one. Looks like there is going to be some fireworks going off on this situation.

"There has been some recent controversy when it came to light that the review website Eteknix could be faking their current competition for some AMD hardware. It was denied by the owner, and the issue was left as probably a hoax. However, after the finishing of the competition, two winners were picked and I was emailed a database screenshot that showed that the winners were infact, the owner in disguise."

I call Shenanigans! Well everyone remember that Ninjalane has real contest with real winners, and none of this stuff going on.cool smile

*Redmax Update* I have actually spoken with "Andy" the owner of Eteknix and have had him on MSN Messenger ever since he launched his site.  Overall the guy seems nice and has been trying to figure out ways to promote his website. Well recently his MSN account was compromised and the person that hijacked it started spreading rumors about the site and the contest.  This of course got out of hand hence the crazy news posting.

I suspect a Trojan Horse was planted on his PC and the hijacker had been watching is chats for months.  This Just goes to show that you should always have antivirus running, scan for spyware and generally be smart about what you download from the web or click on in emails.

We are currently hosting several real contests with real winners, winners of the past contests are still active members of our forums and I urge you all to check them out.  If you would like to comment on this story visit this thread in our forums.

  • Gigabyte Open Overclocking Championship 2009 @ Techgage

Published: Wednesday, April 29, 2009 | By: Will

Wow, how things have really changed. I remember the days when hardware manufactures thought of Overclocking as a hidden taboo. Now it is almost a sponsored sport to them. I love how things have changed.

"The North American regional final of Gigabyte's GO OC 09 overclocking championship took place this past weekend in the City of Industry, and we were there to take it all in. Although no world records were broken, no one disagrees that it was an exciting event, and the result is one lucky overclocker who's now getting ready to head to Taipei for the final."

I wish Ninjalane could have made it there.happy smile

Here is a very short and sweet look at the Kingston Technology Factory in Cali. As I know all of us fellow geeks love to see this kind of stuff.

"Before Gigabyte's Open Overclocking Championship 2009 North America Regional Final this weekend, Kingston invited several members of the media to tour their global headquarters and manufacturing facility located in Fountain Valley, Calif. Kingston's public relations manager David Leong and Louis Kaneshiro, senior technology manager, started the tour at their headquarters building. They gave us a brief overview of their operations as well as an "off the record" sneak peek into some projects coming down the pipe this year."

Wow, that place looks so clean I bet you could eat off the floors without regret.big grin smile

  • The Future of Mankind Depends on NVIDIA PhysX Technology

Terminator Salvation Video Game to Feature Highly Interactive Environments Courtesy of NVIDIA PhysX Technology

SANTA CLARA, CA—APRIL 28, 2009—Without NVIDIA® PhysX® technology, John Connor and the rest of mankind battling the metallic armies of Skynet doesn’t stand a chance. Luckily for all of us, GRIN—the Sweden-based developers of the upcoming video game Terminator Salvation—chose NVIDIA PhysX technology to help them deliver a compelling, interactive, action-packed, third-person shooter video game that will be released in conjunction with the highly-anticipated Halcyon film, which opens nationwide in the U.S. on May 21, 2009.

The game Terminator Salvation offers players the chance to assume the role of John Connor, a soldier in the resistance, battling for survival against the far superior forces of Skynet. Featuring third-person action adventure, with concentrated armed combat against all of the Skynet enemies from the film as well as new enemies designed specifically for the game, NVIDIA PhysX technology allowed GRIN designers and artists to bring the futuristic world of 2016 to life. From realistic weapon effects to destructible environments, Terminator Salvation will deliver wholly interactive and immersive gaming environments to satisfy even the most discriminating players.

“NVIDIA PhysX technology really allows us to do things in the game that we couldn’t do before,” said Bo Andersson, CEO at GRIN. “A world run by Skynet is indeed a scary one, and by working with NVIDIA and the PhysX teams very closely, we were able to make the Terminator Salvation game environments look and react as realistically as they do in the film. Gamers are going to be in for a real treat.”
