Funny thing about this review block. the 4870 came out like a long time ago right?, so why do we have such a huge grouping of reviews featuring that GPU?Ninjalane minds want to know!

AsylumLAN 33 @ Techgage
Published: Thursday, March 26, 2009 | By: DennisWe've been having quite a few lanparties in the various Ninjalane locations, looks like we'll need to have another one.
Ahh, nothing beats a good LAN party. Sitting back, chilling with friends, drinking a lot of Bawls and of course, getting hundreds of frags in... there's nothing quite like it. We made the trip to Evansville, Indiana recently to game it up at AsylumLAN's 33rd event. This is not the first AL we've attended, and we can honestly say... this one keeps getting better.
Seems that Indiana is the gaming capitol of the midwest?

A trio of affordable Core i7 motherboards @ TechReport
Published: Tuesday, March 24, 2009 | By: DennisWe do love Core i7 here at Ninjalane however we will admit platform is pretty expensive to get into. Boards and processors are expensive and since Core i7 uses a lower voltage DDR3 module you'll need a new triple channel DDR3 kit as well. Luckily memory prices have come down crazy fast so that part is easy.
The first wave of Core i7 motherboards were prohibitively expensive, but a new batch has arrived that brings prices down to the $200 range. Join us as we take affordable X58 motherboards from Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI for a spin to find out which is best for a budget.
Sadly DFI and Foxconn are not in this roundup, but then again they are on the upper end of the price spectrum.

NL: Review Block - Coolers
Published: Tuesday, March 24, 2009 | By: DennisOne stable in the world of computers is the need for a heatsink. In reality you shouldn't need a heatsink but as processors get faster and consume more power they tend to produce more heat.

Intel Core i7: Dual-Channel vs. Triple-Channel Memory Mode @ InsideHW
Published: Friday, March 20, 2009 | By: WillHere is an interesting look at the new Core i7 memory controller. This has been a question even passed around the Ninjalane Labs. So let's get a good read on the subject here.
"Intel Core i7 CPU introduced few novelties to desktop users and one among those was triple channel memory mode. This mode is supported by memory controller that is integrated into CPU itself. If you plan to upgrade to Core i7 platform one of advantages will be triple channel memory mode and with this test we offer you a straight answer to question: Is triple channel memory mode faster and better solution than dual channel mode?..."
Yep, that is what I thought.

Nvidia wants Palit's exclusivity
Published: Wednesday, March 18, 2009 | By: DennisNot to be spreading any strange news but check this out.
Palit is a strategically important partner, as it holds almost 50 percent of the Chinese market and it has a strong presence in the rest of the world. Nvidia is trying to sweeten the deal, all in order to win Palit’s hart only for itself, but Palit likes the fact that selling ATI and Nvidia at the same time, which probably brings them more money.
What do you suppose this would mean for the market? and better yet how could that change business for Palit?? (truth be told we have always assumed that Palit was a NV builder, their ATI stuff has always been rather muted.)
We’ve learned that Nvidia is trying to get Palit to become an Nvidia only partner. For a while now, Palit has been selling selling ATI and Nvidia cards, and it's doing a reasonably good job for both GPU makers. Palit is the big company behind many brands including Xpertvision, Galaxy and probably most famous, Gainward.
We do love the Gainward, go NVidia!

IBM in talks to buy Sun Microsystems
Published: Wednesday, March 18, 2009 | By: DennisWell this might be one of the "coolest" mergers you will hear about this summer.
If they reach a deal, it would be IBM's largest-ever acquisition, and represent a departure from its recent strategy of focusing on deals to strengthen its software and services businesses, rather than hardware.
Now all they need is a super pimp multicore RISC chip that actually overclocks and we'll have a new enthusiast platform for NVidia to exploit. -
Liquid Nitrogen and Dry Ice CPU Cooling Insulation Guide @ Legit Reviews
Published: Tuesday, March 17, 2009 | By: DennisEver wonder how those overclocker types get away with running their systems at sub ambient temperatures?? Well here is a quick little guide to help explain how one person sets their system up.
Today we will take you through the steps of a method for insulating motherboards against the harsh elements they are exposed to during extreme overclocking. We'll be insulating the board for liquid nitrogen benching and we'll show you how effective this insulation method is in preventing harmful condensation from forming on the board.
Some guys actually use petroleum jelly to insulate their boards and then use insulating foam around the processor to keep the water out.

Intel Notifies AMD of Cross-License Breach @ TechPowerUp!
Published: Tuesday, March 17, 2009 | By: WillWell looks like big bad Intel is going for another lawsuit. Nvidia was not enough now they are going after AMD. This is going to be an interesting fight. This is not going to win Intel any friends.
Intel Corporation today disclosed that the company has notified Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) that it believes AMD has breached a 2001 patent cross-license agreement with Intel. Intel believes that Global Foundries is not a subsidiary under terms of the agreement and is therefore not licensed under the 2001 patent cross-license agreement. Intel also said the structure of the deal between AMD and ATIC breaches a confidential portion of that agreement. Intel has asked AMD to make the relevant portion of the agreement public, but so far AMD has declined to do so. AMD's breach could result in the loss of licenses and rights granted to AMD by Intel under the agreement.
This looks very bad for AMD.

DFI LanParty UT X58-T3eH8 LGA1366 Motherboard Review @ Hardware Canucks
Published: Tuesday, March 17, 2009 | By: DennisHere is a monster of a motherboard!
As our regular readers will already know we are HUGE supporters of DFI and the LanParty series and happen to have the JR edition of this motherboard and should be going live soon.
Today we look at the crest of the LanParty mountain, and the UT series top dog. The DFI LanParty UT X58-T3eH8 is based on the Intel X58 chipset and supports all the features that has made the Intel X58 one of the most diverse and powerful chipsets to date. Features like Quad CrossFireX and 3-way SLI operation, six triple-channel memory DIMM slots, and dual gigabit LAN connections are all present on the UT X58-T3eH8. Of course, being the DFI flagship on the Core i7 ocean, DFI has pulled out all the stops in the cooling and BIOS departments.
The DFI BIOS is quite powerful and one of the best ones out there.
