HTPC Guide @ OCC
Published: Tuesday, March 17, 2009 | By: DennisFor those of you looking to put a PC in the living room this might be the guide for you. (or not depending on your level of expertise)
The majority of you already know what goes into a computer, but there are a few extra considerations to make when it comes to building an HTPC that you might not normally think about. Things like noise and temperature begin to play a huge part in its operation, as well as physical size. When it comes to the components, you first need to examine what your use for this computer will be. Some may be building a brand new system, but you may be constrained by using spare parts you already own and coupling them with a few new ones to complete the system. Keep in mind you might be limited in functionality depending on the components you choose. Some of the typical uses of an HTPC are listed below, and depending on your needs this will greatly affect the cost and components of your project.
Keep in mind for every HTPC install you do there is prolly 100's of different ways to build and configure the system.

Nvidia cancels Nvision this year
Published: Monday, March 16, 2009 | By: DennisSad times, they go and create a show, then up and cancel it the next year.
Nvidia has recently decided to cancel plans to host Nvision 2009 in order to reduce costs, according to the company.
Nvidia originally planned to hold Nvision in the third quarter, but the economic decline has reduced the number of attendees considering visiting the show, Nvidia said.
The chipmaker added that it will still host several smaller forums in the fall.Maybe we'll see them at Computex

XFX Radeon HD 4870 XXX 1GB video card review @ Elite Bastards
Published: Friday, March 13, 2009 | By: DennisOhhh perdy!
We've already mentioned that XFX have stuck steadfastly with AMD's reference cooling solution for this board, but that aside we see clock speed increases similar to those previously noted on the Radeon HD 4850 XXX - In this particular case, the board's RV770 GPU gets a 25MHz speed boost up to 775MHz, while the 1GB of GDDR5 memory on the board gets a 50MHz increase to give it a final clock of 950MHz.
Notice how the card looks like their NVidia designs?

AMD Phenom II DDR2 vs. DDR3 Performance @ TweakTown
Published: Thursday, March 12, 2009 | By: WillThis is for you guys out there that is on the fence on the RAM question for your next AMD setup. DDR3 is getting cheaper and looking pretty tasty in a new AM3 setup.
"AM3 based processors from AMD are designed with two integrated memory controllers; a 128bit wide DDR2 memory controller and a 128bit wide DDR3 memory controller. This is made possible thanks to DDR2 and DDR3 having the same mount of pins as DDR2 modules, just differently spaced. AMD has designed AM3 processors to be able to slot into AM2+ boards to run with their DDR2 memory controllers. However, you can also place the CPU into an AM3 based board to take full advantage of the DDR3 memory controller.
Now, this is a time of transition. AMD wants to get the AM3 based Phenom II's out there and current AM2+ boards have already been given support for it. But what about users who don't want to spend a fortune? - Jetway has come to the party with its AM2/AM3 combo board supporting both DDR2 and DDR3 memory slots onboard. Today we will see just how much difference there is in performance between using DDR2 and DDR3 memory thanks to this very board."DDR3 FTW!
