  • 2PCOM PS964U CPU Cooler @ CPU3D

Published: Saturday, May 31, 2008 | By: Will

I love to see new comers in the cooling arena. I'm also diggin the Direct Heatpipes touch technology that is seeming to become all the rage. Let's see if the technology really makes a difference.

"2PCOM is a relatively new company formed by former employees of Coolermaster. The product lines they offer looks pretty impressive, and today we take a look at their new PS964U CPU cooler, which incorporates their HTC technology (Heat-pipe Touch Chip). This cooler also features an ultra silent 92x92x25mm PWM fan and 6mm x 4 heat pipes design."

Note to self. "Need to watch for 2PCOM for my next air cooler."

  • G.SKILL PC2-8500 4GB PI DDR2 Memory Kit Review @ Virtual-Hideout

Published: Saturday, May 31, 2008 | By: Will

If your looking for a great set of ram for little cash. Well this review will show a set from GSkill that should make many people happy even the overclocker on a limited budget.

"The G.Skill PC2-8500 4GB PI Memory is another strong performing dual channel memory kit. Stability is top notch and the kit is very reliable under pressure. At full load, the memory keeps its composure and pumps out the bandwidth. Thanks to the new spreaders, it was only slightly warm to the touch and looks pretty sweet. It's also very nice to see that the heat spreaders haven't added much extra weight to the modules."

I'm torturing a set of these right now. Insert evil laugh here.HAHAHA!

  • abit moves to dispel rumours @ Hexus

Published: Wednesday, May 28, 2008 | By: Dennis

abit friends, Hexus, has come to the rescue and attempted to get to the bottom of the recent digitimes article talking about how abit is looking to phase out of the motherboard market.  As always rumors are not true, or in this case taken out of context.

    Here is a snip:

“It’s not true; we’re just as committed to motherboards as ever,” said Welling. “We improved our motherboard sales by 160 percent last year.

To further stress abit’s commitment, Welling said “We will have 38 motherboards on display at Computex, 12 of which will be new. We will have a full range of Intel, NVIDIA and AMD boards, including the new, high-end, Intel P45 based IP45 Max.”

Asked how he thought the rumour may have started, Welling said: “We are trying to broaden the abit brand and producing digital home and consumer electronics products, such as our digital photo frame and printer: FunFab. Perhaps someone read into that.”

This is not the first time digitimes has "gotten it wrong" and I'm sure it won't be that last.

  • Abit reportedly to phase out the market

Published: Tuesday, May 27, 2008 | By: Dennis

Second-tier motherboard maker Abit is reportedly concidering phasing out of the motherboard market after evaluating its shipment performance of Intel 4 series motherboards, according to channel sources.

Abit, howerver, maintains it does not know anything about the speculation and will continue to develop motherboard products.

Abit's has failed to meet the expectations of parent company Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) in its ability to compete with fellow second-teir makers in terms of performance, or first-tier makers in terms of pricing in the mid-range and entry-level market, and so the company is evaluating whether to quit the market and start developing other products for the Abit brand, noted the sources.

Sadly I think we all saw this coming, its too bad though abit has been a stable in the enthusiast motherboard market for years. angry smile

  • Biostar TPower N750 at Overclockers Online

Published: Wednesday, May 28, 2008 | By: Will

I cannot help, but love the Biostar T versions of there boards. The colors plus the overclocking, and all solid caps. Then throw in the price break for a very well made board. It is hard not to like it.

"The T-Power N750 comes loaded with features and accessories. BIOS options leave nothing to be desired by even the most adventurous overclocker, giving a solid platform for AMD fans. I love the package of accessories and software included and NVIDIA finally brings PCI Express 2.0 support to SLI configs for AMD CPUs. While onboard video is less than stellar, adding a high end video card will allow for some energy savings."

Give me a UV light. I want to watch that board glow.

  • ASUS PQ5 Deluxe P45 Eaglelake Motherboard @ Bjorn3D

Published: Wednesday, May 28, 2008 | By: Will

The wait is just killing me. Come on let's get these new boards into retail.

"The Intel® P45 boards will sport a die shrink of the onboard components to 65nm as opposed to the previous 90nm standard. This die shrink would lead us to expect less power consumption as well as improved power efficiency. The P45 also offers official support for PCIe 2.0 with more adaptable lanes to help better support the use of multiple GPUs based on the CrossFireTM architecture. The P45 based boards will feature the new ICH10 series southbridge, which is extremely close in its feature set to its ICH9 brethren, but the primary difference between the two is the ICH10 series has removed LPT and legacy PATA support entirely. While not officially offering support for the new 1600 MHz FSB processors we have it on good authority that most of the P45 boards will support these chips."

I just hope that the prices of these new boards with these chipsets stay on the lower price side.

  • Assassin's Creed Directors Cut - PC Review @ Gamepyre

Published: Tuesday, May 27, 2008 | By: Will

Not much news gets posted about games here on the front page. I hope to change that a little more every week. I start out with the game Assassin's Creed. I just picked it up myself, and all I can say is  "WOW!" to the graphics.

"Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed is a video game that will change video game history. After seeing the graphics, most previously released games look blocky and with yesterdays look. Just because Assassin's Creed happens to be a visually stunning game, that alone may not be enough of a reason for everyone to make this purchase. First of all, Assassin's Creed is a story driven game. It does not include multiplayer or other single player modes besides the storyline missions, thus the people who live for the online interaction may want to stray away from this release."

To bad there is no multiplayer.

  • DFI LanParty DK X48-T2RS Motherboard @ CPU3D

Published: Tuesday, May 27, 2008 | By: Will

DFI is just kicking out the motherboards. They seem to get the idea of making a great board at a worth while price. Here at Ninjalane we have the pleasure of reviewing the DFI LP DK X38. Don't forget to check it out here.

"...Like its predecessor, the DK X48-T2RS is affordable, overclockable and offers very good performance. If you want a good performing x48 based motherboard with a no-frills package/contents, then this motherboard is worth considering. "

The new heatsink on this board is still on the "I Don't KNow" list.

  • Aeneon XTune DDR3 1600 2 x 1GB Review @ OCC

Published: Tuesday, May 27, 2008 | By: Will

DDR3 is starting to really come on strong now. I think everyone has a beast set out now. I can't wait for the prices to get close to the DDR2 prices.

"The Aeneon XTune DDR3 1600 2 x 1GB kit of desktop memory is not only a great looking kit of memory that you can proudly display in your rig, but the sticks are also able to perform very well. This kit of 2x1GB memory is able to operate at 1600MHz with only 1.5 volts being pushed through it. This is one of the advantages of DDR3 memory over DDR2 memory; the kits are able to perform at higher speeds with lower volts without sacrificing the timings that need to be set. The timings of this kit were, at stock, not very low to begin with, but not quite as high as I have seen in the past. When you begin to overclock the memory, you do need to loosen the timings beyond what I would like to set them at, though it does pay off with the higher clock speeds. The voltages that this kit of memory took, 1.5 volts, will help in reducing the overall temperatures inside of your case as the memory sticks are not heating up quite as warm as others."

Lots of wishful thinking on cheaper prices for a while.
