Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1800 @ Bjorn3D
Published: Tuesday, June 3, 2008 | By: WillHere is something I have been looking for. A use for my PCIe slot. It has been a while since I have used a TV tuner, but yes even mine will not work with the new US standards. This might be in my upgrade future sometime soon.
"Actually, upgrading to a new TV tuner may not be as bad as it sounds. If you have watched a digital TV image, you will surely not want to go back to an old analog image. In addition, many new TV tuners on the market come with newer technologies which offer better images and features. Furthermore, many TV tuners use PCIe, which means that you can finally put your PCIe slots on your motherboard to good use."
TV on a PC. It is every mans' dream. Just need a toilet for a seat with a frig next to it.

Xigmatek Battle-Axe GPU Cooler review @ Metku
Published: Tuesday, June 3, 2008 | By: WillXigmatek is going for my fantasy geek side with a name like Battle-Axe. To bad it really does not look like a Battle-Axe. Still with it having two 92mm fans to cool a mighty hot GPU. I still think that is COOL.
"In our test the Battle-Axe proved to be a very powerful graphic card cooler, but it doesn't come without a long list of down sides. First of all
it's huge. This isn't a problem if the user only has one graphic card and doesn't even plan to get any other cards. Anyway it just leaves a
feeling of "couldn't have been made any smaller". "Sorry to everyone that had to read that pun.

ASUS M3N78-EMH HDMI Motherboard Review @ HardwareLogic
Published: Tuesday, June 3, 2008 | By: WillIt is kinda funny that everyday I keep posting more and more Asus reviews. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Maybe it is that Asus is pumping a ton of boards all at once. So congrats to the R&D people kicking out the new boards at Asus.
"Asus is everywhere and anywhere there might be a market for computer related components. This industry giant shipped out 55 million motherboards and earned over $16 billion in revenues during 2006. They followed that up in 2007 with revenue exceeding $20 billion dollars. With over 100,000 employees and an unsurpassed R&D team, its not hard to see why they are considered one of the best companies in the game."
Wow over 55 million motherboards. That is a bunch isn't it.

AMD - Loaded and Back in Action @ Hardwarezone
Published: Monday, June 2, 2008 | By: WillYeppers it's another pro AMD article. You would think they pay me to keep the good PR going for them. Remember AMD even the Ninjalane needs some love to. Oh well, just read the article.
"Despite the lack of profits for the last few quarters, AMD's competitive position today is perhaps the strongest ever in the last two years and that's just based on recent developments. We've got some interesting details of the company's current and upcoming plans for their desktop, mobile and handheld platforms, so read on."
This is a very long, but interesting read. It gives us an idea of what the AMD camp has in store for the future.

Solid-state drive prices to dive @ CNet
Published: Monday, June 2, 2008 | By: WillI cannot wait to start using SSD for my desktop PC. This has been in many geeks dreams for a long time. This is going to be so awesome. Make them cheaper and faster please.
"But the cost per gigabyte of solid-state drive storage will drop as notebook PC makers like Apple switch to solid-state drives with capacities above 100GB based on multilevel cell (MLC) technology. Adoption by notebook PC makers is expected to start in the third quarter, according to industry sources."
Thank you.

Intel and Nvidia headed for licensing stand-off @ CNet
Published: Monday, June 2, 2008 | By: WillThe rumor mill has brought us something fun to chew on this week. We all knew this was going to happen. Let's see how the titans fight it out. It's like wrestling without the big buff dudes, and chicks.
"The story is that Intel and Nvidia are currently negotiating technology licenses for Nehalem, Intel's next-generation desktop CPU due out at the end of this year. As we were told from multiple desktop vendors who wish to remain nameless, Intel wants to license SLI from Nvidia for its Nehalem chipsets, and if Nvidia won't, Intel will withhold the license that would enable Nvidia to support Nehalem's memory controller, and thus Nehalem, on its own chipsets."
OMG, OMG! Watch out for the chair!

ASUS P5N-T Deluxe @ HardOCP
Published: Monday, June 2, 2008 | By: WillAnother board from Asus. This time I found one more suited for us overclockers in the world. Let's see what the guys at [H] have to say about the board. Is it worth our pocket change, or not. This board is going to cost a bunch in pocket change.
"Our last 780i NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI chipset review, seems to hold a lot of promise with its solid design and with the features that the NVIDIA chipset brings to the table. Just how well does this board compare with the rest of the Intel board, or even the other NVIDIA based boards?"
Yes, I have huge amounts of pocket change to be honest. I have to wear a belt just keep my pants up from it. Just call me saggy pants.

ASUS P5E64 WS Evolution GT @ InsideHW
Published: Monday, June 2, 2008 | By: WillLooks to be a good time for you workstation guys. Asus is releasing a new beast. It even looks cool this time with a whole color matching scheme.
" InsideHW did so far reviews for a few great motherboards from ASUS
and this time in our test lab came ASUS P5E64 WS Evolution. First we have to
underline that this exact model ASUS intended for advanced users.
Professional and "serious" look of this motherboard perfectly matches the
purpose and group of users that ASUS P5E64 WS Evolution is intended for.
The rest will follow, bit by bit."...I gotta keep reading this to see if we have true overclocking features with this board.

AMD Phenom versus Athlon X2 @ PC Perspective
Published: Monday, June 2, 2008 | By: WillThis is a subject that has been somewhat beaten like a dead horse. Still it is a very good read. It also gets away from the Intel bashing AMD that many sites seem to focus only on.
"It is not much of a stretch to say that AMD may have been a tad bit aggressive to pursue a monolithic quad core architecture while still using their aging 65 nm process. The chips we have are big (280 mm square +), hot, and power hungry considering their clockspeed. Perhaps a case of "A Bridge Too Far", but one that was forced upon them by the continued competition from Intel in the form of their Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad families of products. While the Phenom does come close to catching Intel in terms of per core performance, it does fall short in most applications. This has lead most reviewers and quite a few enthusiasts to pronounce that AMD is "toast"."
To bad I think the Phenom is to advanced, and to large. I think this really kills the overclocking. I was really looking forward to doing some, but had to pass on the Phenom for it's lacking ability to overclock.
