NL: Quake 4 Guides and Reviews
Published: Saturday, October 29, 2005 | By: DennisI've only had a little hands on time with Q4 but damn it was good.
Quake 4 Console & Tweak Guide @ Viperlair
"The console and .cfg file have a host of tweaks and tricks ready for the user to explore. We outline some of the basics you should know."
HEXUS.gaming :: Quake 4 - The First 15
"The first thing that you’ll notice as soon as you get into the meat of Quake 4 is just how similar it looks to Doom 3. On the graphics front the original Quake was very brown, Quake 2 was brown and grey and now Quake 4 may well end up being known as Doom 3 under a new name. In fact, purely as a first impression, I couldn’t help but think that Quake 4 is the game Doom 3 should have been!"
HEXUS.gaming Review :: Serious Sam 2
"Just how much mindless blasting can you take before it’s too much? There’s certainly plenty of enjoyment in here, but just as being given the keys to the brewery will see you in hospital with a stomach pump going full chat… Serious Sam 2’s blasting is the digital equivalent of binge drinking… binge blasting perhaps?" -

Antec P180 Advanced Mid Tower @ Tweaknews.net
Published: Saturday, October 29, 2005 | By: DennisFrom a modding standpoint this case has potental but I think will also be its downfall. You almost have to do too much modding.
" Speaking of the fans, each of the three 120mm fans included in the P-180 case are Antec Tricool fans, and have a short cable terminating in a tiny switch, allowing the user to run the fan at any one of three speeds. The manual recommends that the user set these switches to the low or medium setting to minimize noise."
Nothing like review titles in all caps to make your news posting day. -
AMD Opteron 254 processor reviewed at TechReport
Published: Saturday, October 29, 2005 | By: DennisFor any of you out there considering a dual processor / Dual core system you might want to read though this review at the Tech Report. They tend to recant though stuff we already knew but also touch on how 4 sometimes not as good as 2 which is only sometimes better than 1.
"FOR THE PAST 12 months, Intel and AMD have praised the merits of their respective dual-core CPU designs and focused on thread-level parallelism as the key to better perfomance, while gradually distancing themselves from the old "clock speed" performance standard. Although Intel beat AMD by a handful of weeks when it came time to formally launch dual-core desktop systems, AMD was the first company to offer dual-core solutions across the server, workstation, and desktop markets. "
I still stand behind dual processor systems, not cause they perform better but cause they look cooler. -
Innovatek Premium XXS Watercooling Kit review @ Xtreme Resources
Published: Saturday, October 29, 2005 | By: DennisThis might be one of the most expensive cooling kits on the market.
"Innovatek is one of the pioneers in the watercooling industry, being one of the first companies that offered watercooling products for the PC enthusiasts. No wonder, like most of the oldest companies they are a company located in Germany, a country with somewhat of a ‘tradition’ on watercooling and a large market reflecting that. Innovatek has built the reputation of delivering top quality and silent products. Today we will take a look on a full watercooling kit, the Premium XXS, a simple and small but very effective kit for the average enthusiast. Let us see what Innovatek does to make their products differ from the masses."
Personally I feel the hoses are too small to make it very enthusiast friendly. -
Danger Den Acetal Maze4 GPU Block @ Techniz
Published: Saturday, October 29, 2005 | By: DennisFor those into watercooling you can't really go wrong with the Danger Den line of GPU coolers. They are compact and pretty much fit anything.
"Danger Den is kind enough to provide us the OCZ Copper BGA Ramsink for this review. The OCZ Copper BGA Ramsink has been designed to provide optimal heat dissipation when used on video card memory and small system components. If you are overclocking your video card, the OCZ Copper BGA Ramsink's will help you achieve better stability and greater performance."
In theory the ramsinks do help a little however keep in mind they are also designed for use with a nearby fan that isn't present when you watercool. -
NL: Review Block - Memory, even got some OCZ in there.

Chaintech AE6800 PCI-E Review @ Paradise|OC
Published: Saturday, October 22, 2005 | By: DennisThere is nothing like seeing a hot chix after spending 400+ bux on some video hardware.
That is provided you didn't know there was one on the box to begin with.
"The box for this card is huge... ginormous... mastadonic, if I may. Is Chaintech making up for something, or are they just saying that their card has big performance? You be the judge. The back of the box lists all the features of the card, plus all the software and the information on it. It even lists other GeForce cards to compare to." -
Mobo makers: AMDs Socket M2 to simplify next-generation CPU
Published: Saturday, October 22, 2005 | By: Dennis"AMD’s Socket M2 CPU line will originally target the high-end market, the makers said, noting that the chip vendor has informed them that the 940-pin platform will also be released for the mainstream and entry-level segments next year. AMD is now delivering samples of the next-generation CPU to its downstream customers, the makers added.
During the platform migration, products that support the new Socket M2 and the old Socket 939 and 754 will still be on the market by the end of 2006, according to motherboard makers. The makers expect that AMD’s CPU standardization will help reduce production and handling costs." -
Rating Changed
Published: Thursday, October 20, 2005 | By: DennisFor all you HardOCP visitors, just letting you know that the reported 5 of 5 rating is actually incorrect. The correct 4 of 5 seemed to have not updated properly when the review went live.
