Assembling water cooler @ OC-Service
Published: Tuesday, November 23, 2004 | By: DennisThis is a pretty good and somewhat basic guide around the hows and whats involved in watercooling your PC, do check it out of you're interested.
"Standard water cooling set consists of : block, cooler, pump and possibly a reservoir, but let’s put everything in the right order. Some theory first. The usual assemblies cooled with water are processors ( CPU, GPU ), chipsets, HDD and feeders. Each one of the cooling assembly has got a special construction that allows absorbing heat from the cooled surface it is stuck to. This kind of construction is called a water block." -
Info: Epox introduces nForce4-motherboard @ HardwareXL
Published: Tuesday, November 23, 2004 | By: Dennis"Epox has released information about its new motherboard with nForce4 chipset. The EP-9NPA= Ultra is fitted with nVidia's nForce4 chipset and has one PCI Express x16-slot, making SLI impossible and has three PCI Express x1 slots and three PCI slots."
Green PCBs used to be the stable in motherboard design (well, there is also gold but gold sux) though in recent years many companies have been migrating to other colors like black and red. Could it be that Green will make a comeback as one of the "special" colors of 2005??

nVidia nForce4 Ultra chipset Stuffs @ The Tech Report
Published: Tuesday, November 23, 2004 | By: Dennis"The nForce4 packs a number of innovative new features, including the aforementioned PCI Express capability, a firewall-fortified Gigabit Ethernet controller with hardware acceleration, and a robust implementation of the latest Serial ATA spec, including Native Command Queuing for SCSI-like disk I/O performance under heavy loads."
I think the nForce4 will be the bomb even if many of the included features are never used during the its lifetime.
(nVidia likes to update things every 6-months don't you know) -
Valve Deletes Steam Accounts
Published: Tuesday, November 23, 2004 | By: Dennis"Yesterday, Valve disabled approximately 20,000 Steam accounts which had been used to try to access Half-Life 2 without purchasing it. The method used was extremely easy for Valve to trace and confirm, and so there is no question that the accounts disabled were used to try and illegally obtain Half-Life 2. "
It would also seem that this was a blanket deletion so if you ever used a bad key to access steam (even if you bought the game afterwards) your account will be killed. -
nVidia and Intel Sitting in a Tree.......
Published: Monday, November 22, 2004 | By: DennisHere is some more news on the nVidia + Intel deal we reported last week (not directly reported but posted news about)
Nvidia to enter Pentium 4-compatible chipset market in 2005, Taiwan makers to focus on K8 platform
"Nvidia is expected to start delivering a core-logic chipset that supports Intel-based CPUs in 2005, and last week the company signed a multi-year, cross-license agreement with the chip giant, according to sources at Taiwan motherboard makers.
Nvidia’s entry into the Intel CPU market is, however, unlikely to have a major impact on Taiwan chipset makers since they will focus their efforts on producing chipsets for the Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) K8 platform, the sources noted."
While I'm really stoked about the news it would seem that the powers to be in Taiwan don't really care.at least yet

Which Soyo is Quitting??
Published: Monday, November 22, 2004 | By: Dennis"A recent report stating Soyo Computer was quitting the motherboard business has caused a bit of confusion among DigiTimes readers and led to a number of queries from Soyo customers concerned about the worth of their motherboard rebates.
The confusion arose from the fact that there are, in fact, three historically intertwined affiliated companies all named Soyo, and it is only the original parent company, Soyo Computer, that plans to phase out production of its motherboards."
That's kind of funny actually. -
nVidia SLI Technology Preview @ Hexus
Published: Monday, November 22, 2004 | By: Dennis"Ah, SLI. That most famous of three letter acronyms is rearing its 3D head again. I'm pretty sure the majority of the HEXUS-reading public has some idea of the basic ideas behind 3dfx's old concept."
I never actually had an SLI setup back in 3DFX days but that never stopped me from dr00ling over the phatty Quantum3D Obsidian card back in the day. It's really too bad they are so rare or I'd look into trying to acquire one again. -

Sapphire 9600 XT Review @ TeamHardware
Published: Monday, November 22, 2004 | By: Dennis"remember that Half-Life 2 voucher?"
Yep I do, and I know many of you out there do as well.
This review is kind of neat, not because it is on old(er) hardware but because they have an ATI enabled video card with a black PCB.Its not every day you see ATI on anything other than Red.
"Sapphire released the 9600 XT in a few different tastes. The one we’re looking at is the 9600 XT lite with 128 MB DDR SDRAM. You can also get one with 256 MB memory or a Zalman cooling which has been named the Sapphire 9600 XT ultimate. The cooling on the Lite version is a small one that is pretty quiet. The memory is not cooled in any way as you can see in the pictures below." -
