  • Nvidia NV48 still alive

Published: Monday, December 20, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Nvidia has not given up on the NV48 and is expected to roll out the GPU in the second quarter of next year, despite market rumors saying the company has cancelled the chip, according to sources at Taiwan graphics card makers.

However, Nvidia plans to have Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) produce the NV48, instead of IBM, as originally planned, the sources noted. The NV48 will be built using a 0.11-micron process, the sources added."

  • Albatron GeForce 6800 GT Review @ Bjorn3D

Published: Sunday, December 19, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Well today we are going to take a look at the Albatron 6800 GT, the gran turismo of the video card world. We won't call this the model with heated leather seats and navigation, but it definitely comes with 17"s and a moonroof."
I wonder if they will make a RS version for the budget crowd. happy smile

  • Gigabyte creates dual-GPU graphics card

Published: Sunday, December 19, 2004 | By: Dennis

Tom's Hardware posted a little something about the new dual GPU video card from Gigabyte that came equipped with two 6600GT processors in SLI mode. There have been many dual GPU cards in the past, the Obsidian 2 X-24 and 3DFX Voodoo 5 come to mind but ATI and XGI also dabbled with dualies. My only concern would be related to GPU timing since the card sits in a single 16x PCI Express slot and SLI enabled systems use 2 8x slots.
"The card integrates two Nvidia GeForce 6600 GT graphics processors and is the first 6600 GT card on the market to offer a total of 256 MByte DDR 3 memory and 256 Mbit of memory bandwidth, according to the manufacturer. The card is cooled by two on-board fans."
On a side note I think this marks the first time I have ever linked directly to a Tom's Hardware posting. This is also despite being dissed on by a Tom's Hardware editor at Computex 2003. To the guys credit he was trying to fit in, but like me stood out like the n00b he was.

  • Cooler Master Aquagate Review @ OCTools

Published: Sunday, December 19, 2004 | By: Dennis

"The waterblock is the core of any watercooling system. Aquagate's uniquely designed waterblock is compatible with almost all types of processor including AMD K7, K8, Intel 478 and other various specifications. Note that the latest Intel LGA775 is not supported. However, I am sure that future models of Aquagate will include retaining mechanisms for use on such CPUs."
We took a look at the CoolerMaster Aquagate system not to long ago, it worked great but was rather limited in its cooling ability due to the small radiator.

  • Soltek SL-915GPro-FGR Review Posted

Published: Wednesday, December 15, 2004 | By: Dennis

The Soltek SL-915GPro-FGR is a rather unique motherboard, not only does it come with 4 DDR1 memory banks but includes a BIOS level automagic overclocking utility called SAT (Smart Acceleration Technology) that actually works.

  • Abit stock downgraded to requiring full delivery

Published: Wednesday, December 15, 2004 | By: Dennis

"The TSE also suspects that management at Abit might have embezzled company funds through the issuance of a euro convertible bond (ECB). According to the TSE, Abit invested US$40 million in an offshore company with a book value of only US$3.3 million. The owner of that offshore company then bought a portion of the US$75 million ECB issued by Abit last year.

Abit also converted NT$2.8 billion in accounts receivable from two offshore companies – Apex Venture and Top Beyond – into equity investments early this year, and the two firms then created more than US$100 million in business transactions for Abit in the first half, the TSE noted."

Its all about the money man, and now they are screwed.
