  • Radeon X850 XT PE Review @ Beyond3D

Published: Thursday, December 2, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Being that there are few differences between Radeon X800 and X850, the newer R480 chip doesn't significantly differ from R423 that preceded it. As there are no major process differences ATI are limited in the gains they can make in this regards, which probably explains the fairly incremental increase in core clock speed."
*Gasp*! a factory overclocked chip?? perish the thought. tongue smile

  • Samsung SyncMaster 172X Review @ PyroPort

Such a wacky intro. big grin smile
"We eat with our eyes or so they say. So having the most advanced graphics cards which offer high frame rates in your favourite games is wasted if you are using a 14" VGA nicotine coloured monitor with a screen curvature of your aunties glasses (AKA "A Fishbowl"). It's a bit like having strawberry jam sponge without the custard!"

  • Radeon X850 XT @ The Tech Report

Published: Wednesday, December 1, 2004 | By: Dennis

The ATI Radeon X850's were announced today and as you can guess the net is buzzing with information. The PE edition comes with a blower style cooler that vents out the back like the 5800. The Tech Report had this to say..
"Before you snort your coffee through your nose, rest assured that the Radeon X850 XT does not sound like a Dustbuster—or a GeForce 5800 Ultra, for that matter—in normal use. I have to admit, I was part bemused and part terrified when I first fired up a system with a Radeon X850 XT PE card in it. At boot time, that blower cranked up briefly to full speed, aurally evoking an Oreck XL."
I really like their subtitle for the review. "Canadian double-wide?" big grin smile

  • Supermicro P8SAA+ LGA775 - SLI??

Published: Wednesday, December 1, 2004 | By: Dennis

Altavista babblefish was able to extract the following from the article.
"As for "P8SAA+" with the unpublished product, as for the sample item which arrives at the same store really it does not operate. Because either the manual has not belonged, the detail specification which includes on-board chip set and, really SLI active kana is unclear, but the PCI Express x16 slot and the similar type slot 2 are prepared on the baseplate. Simply, near the PCI Express slot of secondary "PCI-E X4" there is also the print which can be grasped."
This isn't really an SLI enabled board but a server board with two PCIe slots for video cards.

  • Watercooling your 6800GT @ ModdersHQ

Published: Tuesday, November 30, 2004 | By: Dennis

Watercooling, the nVidia 6800, and you. For those that don't know where to start be sure to check out this little project article on the subject.
"Here we have the collection of parts needed to get the job done. The MCW-50 waterblock is not a direct fit onto the 6800 chipset, so the NV4045 adapter kit will be is needed. The square piece of metal just fits over the waterblock and attaches using screws provided with the kit. The holes in the plate lined up perfectly with the threaded holes on the block."
They are using the Gainward line of 6800's so yours might be slightly different.

  • CoolRiver Deluxe Watercooling Kit @ OCTools

Published: Monday, November 29, 2004 | By: Dennis

I think watercooling is going to be pretty big in the near future though as we've seen some of the companies out there are struggling with getting lots of big stuff to fit into a smaller package and thusly negating one of the primary reasons to watercool in the first place.

    Noise...
"As watercooling is fast becoming mainstream, more and more companies are thinking of having a piece of the once small market. With the arrival of faster and hotter processor, the demand for this form of active cooling is getting bigger."

  • MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum @ t-break

Published: Monday, November 29, 2004 | By: Dennis

"We like the layout on the K8N Neo4- MSI does well to place everything where is should be. The first thing we noticed were the size of MOSFETS used on this board. The picture below shows you how big they are and if MSI has used them to provide good stability and better overclocking, then they surely work great. The CPU socket is also mostly free of capacitors allowing you to install a reasonably sized heatsink."
Just so you know what you are looking at here, the MOSFETs are the same size as the ones found on the DFI LanParty boards (very small) they use less power and are of higher quality. The coils used are also similar to the ones used on the new LGA775 boards. Could this be the start of a new power supply trend??

  • Soltek Qbic EQ3801 Review @ Hardware Zone

Published: Monday, November 29, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Up till now, there were no high performance SFF systems based on Athlon 64 for Socket-754. Even though AMD is pushing the new Socket-939, Socket-754 is still very much alive. The platform is more matured plus socket 754 Athlon 64s can now be found at reasonable prices. Shuttle is undeniably at the forefront of SFF, but while they have an nForce3 Ultra (socket 939) based SFF, their Socket-754 offering is based on the early and crippled nForce3 150."
Being a Soltek kind of guy I've been watching the Qbic development for quite some time, (actually just since they debuted at Comdex back in 2002.) wink smile
