NVIDIA nForce3 250 Motherboard Shootout @ HardwareZone
Published: Friday, October 15, 2004 | By: Dennis"Now, if you're confused about the different offerings of the nForce3 chipset, we don't blame you. In fact, we really hate the way NVIDIA segment their MCP products, so much so that there isn't a clear distinction between all of these products. Even their technical specifications were vaguely posted in their website. Here's a quick chart to help differentiate between the various nForce3 chipsets :-"
Most of the major players with boards in the retail sector are represented in this shootout including the Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR that we recently reviewed. -
Netscape: Bowed, but not broken
Published: Thursday, October 14, 2004 | By: Dennis"The browser is not advancing because (Microsoft isn't) being challenged. I hope that someone does start to challenge them just to get Microsoft to invest in the browser again, but nobody could ever actually retake the crown. If Microsoft starts to feel some pressure, they will just crank up the spending again and crush whoever it is."
Yep I still use Netscape and aside from a few AOL ads during the install I have no issues with it at all.
Some people swear by IE, some people swear by Opera, some people swear at people not using what they use. In any event because of this nobody is seeing the same Internet the same way all the time. -
Dual Core CPU's explained. @ DataFuse
Published: Thursday, October 14, 2004 | By: Dennis"Too bad both found a similar solution to the problem and are now putting heavy manhours in multi-core CPU's.
Although both technologies from AMD and Intel are called DualCore, the architecture and construction behind it isn't identical."
This is really exciting technology, kind of like SMP in a jar or maybe SMP+SMP for the dual processor types running dual core processors. -
Intel Cancels Top-Speed Pentium 4 Chip
Published: Thursday, October 14, 2004 | By: Dennis" The chip industry's own technologists have long predicted engineers would face bigger and bigger hurdles as they cranked up chip speeds. Intel Chief Technology Officer Patrick Gelsinger has famously said that without a fundamental change in chip design, PC chips would become as hot as the surface of the sun within a decade."

The Dual Monitor Experiment @ XYZ
Published: Thursday, October 14, 2004 | By: DennisWe played around with dual monitor setups back before they was cool, while some of the technology has changed on the consumer side of things the concept is exactly the same.
"The honeymoon did not last for too long. Just like with any other purchase the novelty of the 17" LCD quickly wore off. Within a few weeks I was no longer impressed with the 1280x1024 resolution, even if it was drastically better than 1024x768. At this point I was in no way disappointed with the upgrade, but it was certainly no longer anything special."
Check out our dual monitor experiment using way old hardware. -
DFI LanParty UT 915P-T12 Review @ hardwarezoom
Published: Thursday, October 14, 2004 | By: Dennis"Competition among motherboard manufacturers became so intense that innovation and price per performance are the key to their survival. As we can see, every motherboard manufacturer has came out with many unique technologies and implementations to make themselves stand out from the crowd."
Its kind of like exotic birds in the wild, pretty colors attract mates and help to scare predators. I know I would be scared if a big red bird swooped down to attack me, then again most motherboards can't fly. -
Abit AA8-3rd Eye Review @ OCModShop
Published: Thursday, October 14, 2004 | By: Dennis"Socket 775 motherboards are coming out left and right since new technologies such as PCI-Express and DDR2 are improving. Abit has released a motherboard which they have called the AA8-3rd Eye. This motherboard is the same thing as an AA8-DuraMAX with a new accessory addition."
This board is also the basis for the new Fatal1ty board that should be out later this month.
Maybe Abit will be nice and send us one for review -
Epox EP-5EGA+ 915G Review @ PCStats
Published: Thursday, October 14, 2004 | By: Dennis" One of the aspects of a motherboard PCstats always pays close attention to is the layout of components, headers and items of this nature on the PCB.If installing a certain cable or card is made difficult by the location of the slot or connector, this is never a good thing for the consumer."
It would seem that even though this board has a really cool name SEGA! there are a few layout issues to overcome. -
Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude @ Gameconnect
Published: Wednesday, October 13, 2004 | By: DennisI don't normally post game reviews (in fact I think this is the first) but this game might just be the coolest thing to be released this year. Not because of the game play but because this is an old game brought back to life and enhanced for today’s gaming world.
" Back in the days of yore, there was a game called Leisure Suit Larry. Documenting the exploits of a nerdish fellow trying to get laid, that game made more headway in getting people around the world to learn English than evey cultural initiative combined. Sure, it was adventurese English, but it taught us foreigners invaluable key phrases, such as put rubber on."
Ahh, bringing back memories of old, Larry wasn't much but about 50 pixels of shiny color on the old Tandy 1000SX but boy could he get around.
Don't mind the shoddy quote, that is what they sent -
