  • Corsair XMS2 - 5400 Review @ OC-Zone

Published: Thursday, September 30, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Esta é a fabrica em Fremont - California onde são montadas e testadas as memórias da CORSAIR. Mas como a CORSAIR sempre foi uma marca inovadora veio mais uma vez surpreender o mercado com as suas novas XMS2, o 2 quer dizer que são as novas DDR2 preparadas para as novas plataformas de Pentium4, não contentes com a norma para DDR2 de 533Mhz a CORSAIR enviou-nos um KIT Dual Channel que apresenta velocidades de 675Mhz!"
Yep what he said. happy smile

On a serious note, the XMS2 Pro memory from Corsair is pretty sweet and has more LEDs than normal people. tongue smile

  • Alphacool NexXxos XP Review @ GruntvillE

Published: Thursday, September 30, 2004 | By: Dennis

"The only drawback to the block is that the barbs that were supplied would not screw all the way into the block, leaving some thread showing. This is a concern only because it makes it imperative that you use Teflon tape, or other sealant, to make sure that the block does not leak. It took me 3 tries to get everything right."
There are plenty of instances where threads will be showing out the top of your high end waterblocks, that’s live time to deal and can be overcome. However when it takes you 3 tries to get a proper seal that is pretty pathetic.

You can decide which party to blame. wink smile

  • 3D Realms buys physics for Duke Nukem Forever

Published: Monday, September 27, 2004 | By: Dennis

Could this mean they are actually planning to finish the game??
" Meqon is glad to announce that 3DRealms have decided to buy our Meqon Game Dynamics SDK for their upcoming title Duke Nukem Forever.

Meqon’s product strategy has always been to create the most easy to use and flexible physics engine on the market, but without compromising the computational speed. George Broussard, CEO of 3DRealms comments – “We evaluated several physics SDK's and Meqon was really fast, had the cleanest interface and integrated into our game very quickly.”"

Too bad they won't be using the Quake II engine. tongue smileapprove smile

  • NL: Review Block - b33z phj34r

Here is a fun quote to start of this review block (or block-O if you will)
"Although discussion of Intel hardware lately tends to degenerate into Prescott-bashing, the company's new 900 series chipsets really are the bee's knees."

  • Nvidia is making .NET driver

Published: Monday, September 27, 2004 | By: Dennis

"We learned that ATI had its concerns that Nvidia might be faster in its .NET development since it wanted to be the first one to bring those new features. It will be in the hall of fame too for new features, but is also likely to be criticised over driver speed."
Video drivers being controlled by managed code, I'm not sure if this is the right way to go but it will tend to level the playing field in terms of driver performance.

If I remember correctly the Matrox Parhelia drivers were written in .Net and that has been a couple years now.

  • NL: Review Block - Logitech Luv

Published: Monday, September 27, 2004 | By: Dennis

For me Logitech mice are a love and hate relationship. I've always liked Logitech mice; they have worked well over the years, and were very comfortable. That is until (and this is just a guess here) their design team was moved to TW or some other Asian country. How do I know this?? Well all of their mice have become too small and uncomfortable for people with large hands.

Ninjalane readers will know that I‘ve ranted about Logitech mice before and will continue to do so for long as people with small hands continue to pump out designs for Logitech.

Now I do understand that there are alternatives to Logitech but in my eyes the grass is still brown on the other side, it’s almost like the designs come from the same region of the world, go figure. sad smile

  • Xbox Trojan on Star Wars DVD

Published: Monday, September 27, 2004 | By: Dennis

"The 'StarWars Trilogy DVD' (video/movie DVD) has an 'Extra Special Features Disc'. If you try to launch this on your Xbox it will automaticly update your dashboard ... NO confirmation will be asked. The bonus disc has extra features including a documentary on the star wars saga, footage from the making of all three films and a preview demo of the new 'StarWars Battlefront' Xbox game (that's why there's a default.xbe, dashupdate.xbe and update.xbe on the disc)."
    Xbox-Scene.com

So it would seem doubly bad to go spend your money on the Star Wars DVD box set. Not only do you get a phatty Xbox Trojan but a set of movies that are different from any of the others previously released.

I suppose I shouldn't care, I'm not really a Star Wars nut though I do believe in the preservation of all great things.

  • VIA K8T890 Chipset Preview @ Hot Hardware

Published: Friday, September 24, 2004 | By: Dennis

"As most of you are probably aware, NVIDIA and Alienware have the gaming community buzzing at the prospect of running dual PCI Express graphics cards in a single system for increased performance. Although VIA hasn't made any announcements claiming "SLI-type" support in their S3 DeltaChrome 3D GPUs, they're going to offer support for dual PCI Express video cards with the K8T890 Pro version of the chipset..."
PCIe for the A64 is pretty big news and even though the "SLI" implementation isn't ideal there isn't much use to having it yet anyway.

Besides the VIA law of chipset dynamics states that the more chipsets you design with increasing features approaching infinity will translate into the increased appearance of an attempt to cover cooked books and give you an unlimited supply of annoyed customers and perturbed board mfgs.

Or something like that. tongue smile

  • Doom 3 launch pushes demand for AGP8X graphics chips

  • AMD to Ship Lots of K8 CPUs... Later
