  • Motherboards - The Designing Process @ MBReview

Published: Wednesday, September 15, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Yet another important topic that must be addressed by designers is the tuning of the high speed interconnect traces, such as the front side bus connections running from the CPU socket pins to the MCH pins. If you take a look at either the top or bottom layer of a motherboard, you’ll notice that many of the traces do not follow a straight line path, rather they seem to snake around. Some traces do go in a straight line, while a trace next to it might twist and turn. This is referred to as “serpentining” for obvious reasons."
Some of these serpentining traces are so they will fit while others are designed to act as capacitors.

  • Seniors Rule: A Parody

Here is a collection of Senior pictures with a funny little analysis of the concept behind the image.
"A variation of the hand on chin pose, only with the added benefit of white satin gloves. It's both Virgin and Vogue all at once."

  • Soltek SL-K8AN2E-GR Review Posted

Published: Wednesday, September 15, 2004 | By: Dennis

This is the first nForce3-250Gb motherboard to be tested here in the Ninjalane Labs and though it is clearly designed for mainstream use it also has enough features to satisfy many power users as well.

  • ATI speaks about SLI

Published: Tuesday, September 14, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Between NVIDIA and Alienware’s offerings in multi-card solutions, she thinks Alienware has it right with their Video Array system. Alienware has the ability to engineer a system with the capacity to deal with heat and power requirements. And if there are problems, you have one point of contact instead of trying to deal with say the motherboard manufacturer or the video card manufacturer or even the dealer you purchased the components from. But as far as SLI being mainstream with the 6800 GT series, she thinks that part of the public is not ready. "
I sense some truth and a few trembles however the fact of the matter is even though SLI is built into current nVidia PCI Express GPUs there isn't any motherboards out there that fully support the 2(16x) video configuration.

  • Cisco routers get an upgrade

Published: Tuesday, September 14, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Cisco Systems on Tuesday will introduce faster, more feature-laden versions of its hot-selling access routers, in an attempt to fend off competition from rivals Juniper Networks and 3Com."
Kind of makes you wonder why they didn't do that in the first place, oh ya... cause they are cheap greedy bastards. wink smile

  • Man Arrested Over Tiny Tip

Published: Tuesday, September 14, 2004 | By: Dennis

"Humberto A. Taveras, 41, faces a misdemeanor charge of theft of services after he and his fellow diners argued with Soprano's Italian and American Grill managers over the legality of requiring an 18 percent tip for large parties.

"They chased us down like a bunch of criminals," Taveras said. "It killed our weekend." "

Take note: stop being a arrogant bastard at restaurants, it not only makes you look like an ass to the other customers but also loses any bargaining chip you might have with the staff.

  • Floating House for flood prone areas: Project Noah

Published: Tuesday, September 14, 2004 | By: Dennis

"The concept design is based on the fact that the majority of homes in a flood do not get washed away, but rather suffer physically/emotionally debilitating and expensive damage due to floodwater incursion. Homeowners, insurance companies, and businesses will be the main beneficiaries of this new technology. Reduced insurance premiums in flood prone areas may be a long term advantage."
It is not uncommon to design a building as a boat but actually making the house float seems like an interesting challenge, just hope there isn't a windstorm. happy smile

  • Ninjalane WAN Party a Success?

Published: Monday, September 13, 2004 | By: Dennis

I kept popping throughout the weekend to see how the WAN party was progressing and I was quite impressed to find a completely full server on Friday with 16 players going head to head in a game of Onslaught. Personally I’m not one for Onslaught but it does seem to be more fun than your average deathmatch. That is until some punk mows you down with his Manta cause its easier than shooting you from afar. sad smile

This next weekend the game will be Far Cry, the dedicated server still needs to be installed and tested but shouldn’t be a huge deal. Friday will be by invitation only so be sure to register in the forums so you can get the password to the server.

Rules are subject to change so keep checking back to get the latest updates.
