  • Lawn Darts: High risk of death and Fun!

"Expect, however, to pay a ridiculous amount as they are in high demand. The reason being that parents used to be able to get away with simply poisoning their kids slowly overtime or "accidentally" pushing them off a balcony. But sadly things have changed and in this day and age children are protected by so many groups and organizations that you can't even get away with using small amounts of anti-freeze as a substitute when a baby sitter is not available."
Oh how true it is. wink smile

  • Chaintech Summit SK8T800 Review @ Hexus

Published: Wednesday, August 25, 2004 | By: Dennis

This is a VIA enabled motherboard for the 754pin Athlon64 processor platform. Based on the review the board is very compact and doesn't appear to have many extra onboard features.
"It's clear from the outset that Chaintech intends to position the SK8T800 as a budget S754 board. Nothing wrong with that if done correctly. The most interesting part of layout has to be the locations of the 2 power plugs. They're on the right-hand extremity."

  • Peeping Tom webcam worm created by virus writers

Published: Wednesday, August 25, 2004 | By: Dennis

Imagine that a worm created by virus writers, what will they think of next.
"The company added that, once the worm infects a computer, remote hackers can easily gain access to the information on the PC's hard drive and steal passwords, as well as spy on innocent users via their webcam and microphone.

"More and more hackers are interested in spying on the people they manage to infect with their worms and Trojan horses," said Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant for Sophos, in a statement."

I was wondering when something like this would surface.

  • DOS Glitch Nearly Killed Mars Rover

Published: Wednesday, August 25, 2004 | By: Dennis

A very good read for those that didn't know what happened.
"The problem, Denise said, was in the file system the rover used. In DOS, a directory structure is actually stored as a file. As that directory tree grows, the directory file grows, as well. The Achilles' heel, Denise said, was that deleting files from the directory tree does not reduce the size of the directory file. Instead, deleted files are represented within the directory by special characters, which tell the OS that the files can be replaced with new data."
Be sure to check out the last paragraph its pretty cool.

    - GeForce 6800 GT PCI Express @ Beyond3D
"It wasn’t until boards made their way into reviewers hands that the truth was uncovered – upon removing the heatsink it was evident that this wasn’t a significantly different chip from NV40, but in fact, the HSI chip was still in use, just packaged on directly with the graphics chip."

    Cool Cases
    - SilverStone SST-TJ04 Review @ Overclockers Online
This appears to be a very solid case just ripe for modding.

    Misc Stuff

"Why would you want to overclock? Well, the most obvious reason is that you can get more out of a processor than what you paid for."
    - Flashing a Video Card BIOS @ PCStats
"While this *not* something for the novice to undertake, flashing your video card BIOS may lead to performance and feature enhancements."

  • Soltek K8AN2E-GR Review @ Neoseeker

Published: Monday, August 23, 2004 | By: Dennis

The SL-K8AN2E is based on the second generation of nForce3 chipsets from nVidia, performance is still largely based on what processor you choose with most of the changes being in chipset features.
"Soltek has made a reputation for itself with high performance, low cost parts but surprisingly, they remain under the radar for the most part in the enthusiast circles."
We have reviewed quite a few Soltek motherboards here at Ninjalane and from the enthusiast standpoint their boards are really hit or miss. Sometimes you can get some good overclocking performance, other times there is just no support. Despite this Soltek remains as one of the least expensive motherboard makers on the market.

  • Pentium4 LGA775 Stuffs @ Digital-Daily

Published: Monday, August 23, 2004 | By: Dennis

"By the way, immediately after the emergence of first motherboards for LGA775 many reviewers started complaining about the brittle and unreliable design of the new processor socket. The most common problem is that after a few unsuccessful attempts to fit the processor into the socket the pins deform (or bend)."
I actually heard complaints of this very thing (fragile socket pins) long before the processor was commercially available, the sad part is that the extra pins are only there to supply power to the processor. It kind of makes you wonder what the future of the LGA775 will be.

"Today we're looking at a trio of Socket 754 boards worthy of your consideration for the Sempron. All are based on VIA's K8T800 chipset, and all can be had for just around $100 or less today. Find out who offers the best solution! Abit, Albatron, or Asus!"
Don't you find it strange how all of the boards being tested start with the letter A??
