Phj34r the Downtime
Published: Wednesday, July 28, 2004 | By: DennisSorry for the downtime but due to a freak accident web access to ninjalane.com was restricted for a short amount of time. The sad part of the whole deal is that the issue pivoted around a routine upgrade that was supposed to make things better. I think we can safely chalk this one up to user error with just a touch of shoddy documentation and programming on the part of the software supplier.

Mini Gradient Mesh Tutorial
Published: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 | By: DennisThis is not really related to computer hardware and hardware review but many of us are graphical people in some form or another. One of the coolest tools that I have recently started to use is Adobe Illustrator CS. This is a vector based drawing tool similar to AutoCAD and 3dsmax so everything that is drawn on screen can be derived by a mathematical formula. (In some form or another). Illustrator just takes things a few more levels to make the images a little prettier.
Knowing this you may find it hard to believe that you can do near photorealistic drawings in Illustrator without needing to import pixel based raster images. For those interested be sure to check out this Mini Gradient Mesh Tutorial at Creative Bush -
Google IPO ready to go
Published: Tuesday, July 27, 2004 | By: Dennis"Moreover, many financial analysts note that the company may be coming into the market at the top of its value. If the stock sells at the expected price, Google would have a market value of between $29 billion and $36 billion, just shy of rival Yahoo.
``The question is, if you had $30 to $35 billion to spend, is Google what you would buy?'' said Kevin Landis, chief investment officer of Firsthand Capital Management in San Jose."
A curious question indeed... Not sure I would buy Google either. -
PolarFLO TT Review @ GruntvillE
Published: Monday, July 26, 2004 | By: Dennis"Q: How did you come up with the name of the new series of blocks, TT?
We heard (actually read) the term "triple titter" used often to describe the style of liquid heat sink we and others manufacture. Why try and come up with a better name? The consumers have spoken! "
Can't say I have ever heard the term "Triple Titter" before but it makes sense.
Oh and be sure to click the banner link to the right and show some luv. -
CoolerMaster Cavalier 3 @ XYZ Computing
Published: Monday, July 26, 2004 | By: DennisLooking for a good ALU + Steel hybrid case?, need it to be sturdy? The Cavalier might be just what you need.
"Here is the Cav3 out of the case. Though a bit plain it is a very nice looking case. Compared to most aftermarket cases sold today it is quite understated, but there is nothing wrong with its quiet, classy look."
The case has some good modding potential as well. -
Asetek Antarctica @ PC Modding
Published: Monday, July 26, 2004 | By: DennisWe reviewed this little unit not to long ago and were very impressed with the performance it is somewhat limited to usage with the asetek WaterChill due to the 3/8" ID hose requirement.
"Antarctica is Asetek’s newest water block that had been designed to achieve higher performance, which will assist in extreme overclocking. The water block comes with the two lids that supports Intel S478, AMD Socket A (S462), AMD Athlon FX (S939/S940) and also AMD Athlon64 (S754). However, fitting the motherboard on a Socket A will be possible on the motherboards that have mounting holes beside the CPU socket."
Fits good on the Pentium 4, check out our review of the asetek Antarctica. -

Memory Timings Explained @ CoolTechZone
Published: Monday, July 26, 2004 | By: Dennis"Since the cost of memory modules does not vary drastically between speed grades, we recommend that you purchase the highest speed you think you may need in the long term. You will save some money if you decide to upgrade you microprocessor later, all memory is backward compatabile as far as bus speeds are concerned."
This is a rather informative little article that explains a little about how memory works and what them pesky numbers mean. -

Intel to bundle ATI-based VGA cards with 915/925 motherboards
Published: Friday, July 23, 2004 | By: Dennis"Intel and ATI Technologies plan a co-marketing initiative called “Driving Change,” which will target the channel and bundle ATI own-brand add-in-board (AIB) clients with Intel own-brand motherboards, according to sources at Taiwanese motherboards makers.
The plan, which will kick off on August 2 in North America and Europe, will offer channel distributors discounts of US$20 or US$30, depending on the motherboard models.
A discount of US$30 is being offered for an ATI Radeon X600-based graphics card bundled with an Intel BOXD925XCV, BOXD925XBC or BOXD915PBLL motherboard."
Good times for those looking for a cheap way to upgrade their system, though I would have liked to see them apply the discounts on any of the ATI cards.
