Published: Sunday, February 29, 2004 | By: DennisIt’s not every day you find a 29th in February or even 5 Sundays in a month but its fun to let others know when it does happen.
Enjoy your extra day of being the same age. -
120mm AcoustiFan Review @ Big Bruin
Published: Saturday, February 28, 2004 | By: DennisYa ya I know, why the heck would you review a fan, well.... I dunno, though when the fan is extra quiet, thermally controlled, and clear you begin to wonder.
Rumor has it there is a 92mm version of this fan in the Ninjalane Labs, we'll let you know how it works out. -
Shuttle SN85G4 XPC Review @ Overclockers Club
Published: Saturday, February 28, 2004 | By: DennisAthlon64 in a SFF bare bones package, not a bad way to satisfy your 64-bit urge.
"Shuttle decked out the SN85G4 in all black. Sporting a black front bezel with a beveled mirror plate insert. The side panel is made of black brushed aluminum with circular holes along the bottom on both sides to help intake cool air for the system."
Doesn't that sound a lot like a Soltek Qbic SFF box? ya thought so too. -

Fish Aquarium + Watercooling Reservoir + Waterfall Mod @ AllHardwareZone
Published: Saturday, February 28, 2004 | By: DennisThe building of a watercooling reservoir is not a difficult task to accomplish though it is advised to refrain from including live animals as part of your project, its just not right.
"These are the fish which were supposed to be in the final product. Sadly, when I returned back to school from break they were all dead. I even left one of those vacation feeders with them, but I guess it didn't work out (to clarify, they were not in my computer when they died...they were in another container as I realized beforehand that my creation would not be a fish friendly living environment)." -
Western Digital Raptor WD740GD Review @ Hardware Zone
Published: Friday, February 27, 2004 | By: Dennis"The Western Digital Raptor just got bigger, better and faster with the recent introduction of their latest 10,000RPM Raptor drive based on the latest Serial ATA interface. The previous Raptor had a smaller capacity of only 36GB while this latest predator is packed with double the amount of space. Known not so much of being a SATA drive for the average consumer, Western Digital is redefining this new range of drives for the enterprise environment."
However if you run a Raptor drive in your daily workstation be sure to get two and create yourself a nice RAID0. You will never look at disk arrays the same again. -
Autodesk on the upswing
Published: Friday, February 27, 2004 | By: DennisI'm going to guess that many of the Ninjalane readers could care less about this bit of news but I found it interesting.
"The company reported net income of $58 million, or 48 cents a share, for the quarter, which ended Jan. 31. That compares with $6 million, or 6 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Predictions from analysts polled by news service Reuters averaged 29 cents a share.
Revenue for the quarter was $295 million, up from $196 million a year ago. " -
No More Hercules Video Products
Published: Friday, February 27, 2004 | By: DennisIt would seem that Hercules can no longer support the selling of Hercules branded video products (Video Cards and LCD panels) Since there is no official press release from Hercules (as of this writing) it is hard to tell if the posted information is correct or just a rumor.
"There is nobody to blame here, as I can understand the way ATI works. From ATI's point of view is control very important. With control you are certain that your products are always on the same (high) level across the different vendors.
From Hercules point of view, I can understand that you want to differ yourself. The market is tough enough, how else would you survive? On pricepoint alone? That was not what Hercules was about."
Some may remember that back before they switched from nVidia to ATI GPUs the Hercules card was the one to get, almost makes you wonder why they don't switch back.
I still miss my Hercules GeForce2 Ultra, It was the best video card I ever owned. -
Phj34r my Lack1n9 N3w5
Published: Friday, February 27, 2004 | By: DennisSorry for the lack of any fresh news, I was a little busy with work today and didn't have any time to play news hound.
Needless to say you will prolly find a rather large review block tomorrow and maybe some fresh stuff shortly there after.
I did hear some info about the new NV40 GPU, rumor has it the processor is going to have some 200+ transistors and 8x2 rendering pipelines. Good stuff and could very well be the next ATI killer with some room to spare.
Then again, with the way things go ATI will follow suit in typical "one up" fashion.
Time will tell. -
GeForce FX 5700 Ultra Performance Review @ Hardware Zone
Published: Wednesday, February 25, 2004 | By: DennisGrab a drink, this review is 17 pages long, it would seem that someone is really trying to push up the page views.
"In a graphics chip review such as this, hardly any other aspect but performance speaks most of the product itself and our numerous pages of benchmark results depicted just that. After all those pages, it is very clear that the GeForce FX 5700 Ultra is the leader in the upper mid-range graphics and is an excellent heir to the former FX 5600 Ultra that failed to keep up with its competitor."
Some would argue that the 9600XT is actually the mid-range graphics leader so who really knows.
