  • SOYO CK8 Dragon Plus Review @ Motherboards.org

Published: Tuesday, December 9, 2003 | By: Dennis

Here is Soyo's latest Dragon board based on the nVidia nForce3-150.
"The board comes overclocked by default from the factory making it a board that runs faster than its peers as it is running faster. The chip itself comes factory locked so overclocking is not really a stock option as far altering the clock speed but you can adjust the memory and FSB speeds to get a faster overall system speed."
I've really liked Soyo boards ever since the release of the original DRAGON some years ago. The onboard features and processor controls were very welcome during that time. Though lately many reviewers have mentioned that overclocking hasn't been great on many of the new Soyo Dragons, thus losing some of their enthusiast flair.

For us here at Ninjalane "the jury is still out". (catchy phrase huh? wink smile

  • PCI Express P4 chipset in January

Published: Tuesday, December 9, 2003 | By: Dennis

"VIA Technologies will begin sampling the PT890, an 800MHz FSB (front-side bus) Pentium 4 (P4) chipset supporting dual-channel DDR400 DDRII and PCI Express, next month.

Motherboards using the PT890 chipset are expected to be exhibited at CeBIT in March, the company said."

Cool things, makes you wonder what happened to the PT880. happy smile

  • Soltek SL-K8AV-R "Black Thunder" Review Posted

Published: Tuesday, December 9, 2003 | By: Dennis

The Soltek SL-K8AV-R plays an integral entry-level part in the Black Thunder series by providing a very cost effective and classy motherboard to the budget-minded consumer moving to the Athlon64 platform.

  • Corsair TwinX XMS4000PRO Review @ Tweaknews

Published: Monday, December 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

"If you don't already know by now, good quality memory is absolutely an essential part of a stable high performance computer. As the main component transferring data from the CPU to the rest of the computer, it more often than not can be the weak link in the computational chain if a user is experiencing poor overclocking, performance and stability."
I agree, you should keep in mind that these modules have very relaxed timings that enable them to run so fast. For those of use that don't overclock very often you might look into getting a pair of XMS3200LL Pro Modules instead.

  • I have never wronged VIA or D-Link

Published: Monday, December 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

That is what Jeffery Chang said in an interview with Digitimes over his corporate espionage accusations.
"Q: One of the controversies involved in this case is your resigning and rejoining VIA. Can you talk about your career path?

A: I have worked for 15 years. Before joining VIA in 1994, I worked in the computer network product-related field. I left VIA in March 2000 because of the work pressure, the same reason why I left D-Link."

Some are saying that the media is blowing this out of proportion though it will be interesting to see how this turns out.

  • Shuttle SB62G2 XPC Review @ MetkuMods

Published: Monday, December 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

SFF cases are gaining in popularity in the east due to the small size and flexibility. I know of a few Americans that have made the switch to SFF though case size hasn't really been a concern.
"There are many wrong beliefs about these small barebones and I hope that I can correct some of them in this review. After this, you should be able to judge for yourself if these little boxes are not usable at all or should you go and buy one to replace that big tower on your desk or on the floor."
I wonder how long it will be before someone comes up with a watercooling kit for the SFF??

  • AOpen AK77-600 Max Review @ Legit Reviews

Published: Monday, December 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

I keep thinking of MC Hammer when I see this site. happy smile I just hope they don't do their reviews in parachute pants. wink smile
"While the overall performance was not shock and awe, it was expected as the Via KT600 chipset has been found to be very picky on the settings it likes to run at. We have had a number of KT600 motherboards around here and the AK77-600 MAX has been found to be the most stable KT600 we have ever looked at."
You don't see to many AOpen reviews anymore but when you do they are usually always good.

  • Mach4 NVIDIA nForce 2 Ultra Review @ NextGen Electronics

Published: Monday, December 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

I met up with XFX at Computex not to long ago and was quite impressed with their line of motherboards, hopefully we'll have a few samples in house before too long.
"I'm a big AMD guy and definitely think that the nVIDIA nForce2 boards are the way to go - I haven't been quite as impressed with other chipsets as I have consistently been with this board's features."
