  • Albatron KX18D PROII Review @ PC Tech Zone

Published: Thursday, October 16, 2003 | By: Dennis

Based on the name I would have never guessed that this board was nVidia nForce2 based, but alas I am incorrect. tongue smile
"The voice genie is a very impressive function I pulled out the memory and booted the computer instead of the annoying beep code. I was greeted by a voice telling me I had a memory problem, Much easier to find out where you trouble is coming from. Albatron defiantly put everything they could into this board."

  • ATI AiW Radeon 9600PRO Review @ Tweaknews

Published: Thursday, October 16, 2003 | By: Dennis

"Over its evolving lifespan, the personal computer has seen many innovations. The highly acclaimed ALL-IN-WONDER single-slot graphics card has been an essential part of computer use since its introduction in 1996. With over 3 million sold worldwide, the ALL-IN-WONDER graphics card offers 2D, 3D, and multimedia video acceleration, TV output, an advanced TV tuner, and video capture all in one device."
Some people swear by them, and others swear at them regardless the AIW is still one of ATI's most popular signature products.

  • Orac3 Casemod @ bit-tech

This is one sweet mod with a very creative use of showerhead hoses. big grin smile
"I had noticed that in a lot of clear acrylic case mods I have seen there is minimal modding of the internals in so far as their appearance goes - they seem to rely on the fact that they are a clear case. However, the novelty factor of a clear case seems to have worn off a little, as they become more common. While most of these can still look excellent, I decided with this project that I wanted to go a step further (more like a Leap) and, mod the case and all of the internal components heavily. Hopefully, the entire system will look as retro-futuristic as possible and boldly go where no acrylic case has gone before - cue the Star Trek music!"
The project actually reminded me of something a person might see in the Matrix, if such a thing actually existed. wink smile

The thing to remember when modding your case is that the process is supposed to be fun and picking out the modding supplies is only half of the project.

  • Laws of Anime

Published: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 | By: Dennis

"Clothing in anime follows certain predictable guidelines.

Female characters wear as little clothing as possible, regardless of whether it is socially or meteorologically appropriate. Any female with an excessive amount of clothing will invariably have her clothes ripped to shreds or torn off somehow. If there is no opportunity to tear off the afore-mentioned female's clothes, then she will inexplicably take a shower for no apparent reason (also known as the Gratuitous Shower Scene). "

These laws are so true it's scary. happy smile

  • Athlon 64 FX vs Pentium 4 EE @ Digital Daily

Published: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 | By: Dennis

There is quite a bit of information in this article including some rather good photos and screenshots.
"Finally, one of the most interesting benchmarks to date is the stolen "alpha demo" of the future DOOM 3 game. We used its two demo-reels (can be found on our FTP). At one of them, Pentium 4 Extreme Edition wins with a merely 2% gap over Athlon 64 FX-51, whereas at the other, Athlon is a bit faster (by 1%)."
Key words here are "Stolen 'alpha demo'" but the results are interesting at best. wink smile

  • Secret Agents from Gigabyte @ hardwarezoom

Published: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 | By: Dennis

"Our Special Task Force has managed to capture one of them alive at GA-8IPE1000 Pro 2. After a series of interrogation and tortures, finally they have revealed their secrets of boosting the performance of the new Gigabyte i865 motherboard without our users knowing.

Read our report to find out what C.I.A and M.I.B. have done to secretly make your games run smoother and your video encoding done faster than ever."

Could these be fancy names for new overclocking controls?? Or does Gigabyte actually have secret agents working for them? The limo gives it all away. big grin smile

  • Xice EC600/H Athlon Kit Review @ Water-Cooling

Published: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 | By: Dennis

"The two most common reasons for changing over to watercooling are: 1. to overclock further and 2. to reduce the noise level. Today I will be reviewing the Xice EC600/H which aims to tackle that second reason. The Xice kit is an external unit which contains no fans and a quiet water pump and therefore can run practically silent."
Pretty fancy external cooling unit but without a fan to keep things cool you are very dependent on ambient temperature when it comes to cooling performance.

  • Cooler Master JET 7 Review @ LegitReviews

Published: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 | By: Dennis

Some of you may remember the Cooler Master Jet from our Computex 2003 Coverage. Well here is the engine that made it fly. (so to speak)
"It may not be the best cooling heat sink out there, but nothing can beat it when it comes to creativity on looks! If you have ever had the desire to have a heat sink fan that looks like a real jet engine this is it!"

  • Gigabyte GA-8KNXP i875P Review @ PCStats

Published: Wednesday, October 15, 2003 | By: Dennis

"In terms of peripheral expansion, the Gigabyte 8KNXP features an 8x AGP Pro slot as well as five PCI's. The six DIMM slots can accommodate up to 4GB of ECC/Non-ECC PC2100/2700/3200 DDR RAM, however you can only use eight banks of memory. Each side of DIMM counts as one bank, so plan your memory early lest you be caught with six double sided DIMMs of which only four will be used."
Kind of makes you wonder why they even bothered to include 6 dimms. Gigabyte was one of the first companies to release a Canterwood enabled motherboard and it’s good to see it can still run with the best of them.
