  • Antec New Cases

Published: Wednesday, May 14, 2003 | By: Dennis

Phj34r the twisted pictures! Tweaktown has posted their review of a couple new cases from Antec.
"Antec have done an excellent job on these two cases which are both aimed at two different markets. The Sonata is aimed at people who are interested in having the quietest system possible, with rubber used throughout the case instead of metal screws; vibration is absorbed and can help stop any noise throughout the case. On the other end of the scale if noise doesn’t bother you and your more interested in having a nice light weight case that includes a window the Lanboy is perfect for you."
Neither of the cases look to be made from the same material as the popular performance series case so be sure to look at a sample before you buy.

  • Cooler Master ATC-620 Review @ Dans Data

Published: Tuesday, May 13, 2003 | By: Dennis

"The ATC-620s' obvious target market is the living-room-PC crowd, but these cases aren't so specialised as to be useless for other purposes. If you want a desktop PC with presence, these cases will do it for you."
Between a SFF cube case and the ATC-620'ish cases on the market it is really hard to decide what sort of system would make a better HTPC. I'd be inclined to go with a MicroATX desktop case since I'm the type that likes to build from scratch and mod along the way.

  • Modding the Sunbeam @ VoidedWarranty

Published: Tuesday, May 13, 2003 | By: Dennis

This is one of dem clear acrylic cases so if you screw up everyone will be able to see it. happy smile
"Everything installed without a hitch. All pre-drilled holes in the case lined up with the equipment being installed. There was just one problem with the mobo. After inserting a board in a card slot, there was a good 1/4 inch gap between the case back panel and the back of the board. I had to bend the top of the metal board mounting bracket to enable securing the board to the case. "

  • New Athlon XP Released Today

Published: Tuesday, May 13, 2003 | By: Dennis

"The new processor is available immediately worldwide, priced at US$464 in 1,000-unit quantities. AMD did not lower prices on older Athlon XP processors."
It is also claiming a 6% performance gain over its closest competitor, not bad for an aging processor core.

  • Opening Stealth Cd-Roms @ Twisted Mods

Published: Monday, May 12, 2003 | By: Dennis

Here is a mod of a mod. big grin smile
" One problem I’ve noticed with stealth drives is finding something to use to get the button to work. I’ve tried stacking foam tape, taping small object to the button, and even gluing case screws to it. I finally decided I’d try something else. This guide will show you how to make an externally mounted button for your stealth drive. It will also show you a great mounting idea if you have a Lian Li case."

  • Interview with VIA @ AcceleNation

Published: Monday, May 12, 2003 | By: Dennis

This looks to be the first of a multi part interview with VIA, they have Tim Handley of CPU Marketing under the hot lamps today.
"VIA recently announced the CME400 chipset with support for a 200 MHz GTL+ Front Side Bus, how much a performance increase should users expect with a 200 MHz FSB C3?"

  • Chaintech 9CJS Review @ TweakTown

Published: Sunday, May 11, 2003 | By: Dennis

"On the same day as Intel’s release of the I875P, Chaintech announced its very first board based on this new chipset, a board which has been described as everything you’ll ever need for your ultimate PC performance. Do these claims hold true? Read on and find out."
This isn't your typical Chaintech motherboard, black PCB, baby blue PCI slots, screwdriver set, multimedia bay, etc... I would question some of the reported specs though.

  • Half-Life 2 Preview @ Shacknews

Published: Friday, May 9, 2003 | By: Dennis

It is hard to decide what one is better Doom III or Half-Life 2 but you know, it doesn't really matter since I'll be buying them both. big grin smile
"When I was being shown Half-Life 2, I was ready to drop a load in my pants. Yeah I said it, quote that. I hid it well from the Valve guys I think, but it was there, and I was dying to dive across the table and take the controls."
