Soltek SL-75FRN2-L Review @ Hardocp
Published: Thursday, May 1, 2003 | By: DennisBig news of the day, the [H] has reviewed a Soltek motherboard and actually gave it an award.
" For the gaming enthusiast on a budget, the Soltek SL-75FRN2-L motherboard looks to be an excellent option. Sporting support for the latest technology and featuring some exceptional overclocking controls within the BIOS, it seems hard to go wrong with this board."
This is the second version of the FRN that sports the new C1 stepped nFoce2 Northbridge. Our review of the original can be found here. Aside from the new chipset and upgraded BIOS the boards are identical. -
SARS Concern to Postpone Computex Exhibition
Published: Thursday, May 1, 2003 | By: Dennis"Triggered by concerns about the spread of SARS, more than 20 PC and motherboard manufacturers signed a petition letter asking the Taipei Computer Association (TCA) and China External Trade Development Council (CETRA) to consider postponing the Computex trade show."
A very good move, I heard if they went through with the show overseas visitors would have to remain in quarantine for 10 days before departing. Pretty much means that any one not from Taiwan will be staying almost two weeks longer than they first expected just to attend the largest tech show in the world. -
Abit BH7 Review @ Cluboverclocker
Published: Thursday, May 1, 2003 | By: DennisA new mobo review from the neighboring hardware review site.
"I'm going to keep the testing very simple on this motherboard. I'm going to run it through the battery of tests from Sisoft Sandra, 3Dmark 2001 SE, and PCMark2002. This should give us a good idea of how the board is going to perform. I'm going to run each test at least three times. Once at default (18 x 133), and finally overclocked (18 x 170). The test system is as follows." -
Coolermaster Aero 7 Review @ True Review
Published: Thursday, May 1, 2003 | By: DennisIts true, another true review from A True Review this time of the elusive Coolermaster Aero 7. This heatsink is basically a XDream SE with a huge blower on top.
"When air cooling a heat sink, the center hub of the fan does not push air toward the heatsink. Therefore, the center of the heatsink is not receiving as much air flow as the out edges. Cooler Master has made the leap to the next generation of coolers by eliminating this problem. Using a blower and mounting it vertical, the Aero 7 blows air equally over all the heatsink's fins. "

Zippy EL-715 Electro-luminescent keyboard
Published: Wednesday, April 30, 2003 | By: DennisOne of the most common comments I get about the Zippy EL-610 Review is how cool the keyboard looks but is way too small for normal usage.
Well Zippy has addressed this issue by releasing a full sized version called the Zippy EL-715. The keys are like that of a laptop but are full sized for easy typing.
Specs and a picture are posted in the Ninjalane Message Forum -

ABIT SI7-G R658 Motherboard Review @ TweakTown
Published: Wednesday, April 30, 2003 | By: DennisYou don't see many P4 motherboards supporting RDRAM anymore since Intel gave Rambus the boot but that doesn't mean that other companies have to follow their lead.
"For an RDRAM based board, overclocking was beyond fantastic, 800MHz FSB CPU’s ran without a single problem, in fact performance was fantastic with 1200 RDRAM and 800MHz FSB. While not being able to match the I875P Canterwood but ABIT’s SI7-G is still a great candidate for the value end of the 800MHz FSB section."
If anything check out the unique turn to the CPU socket and reddish orange PCB color. -
ASUS P4C800 Deluxe Review @ HardwareZone
Published: Tuesday, April 29, 2003 | By: DennisThis is one of them fugly brown boards but comes from Asus with the Canterwood chipset so all is not completely lost.
"Similar to a lot of Canterwood boards we've recently reviewed, the ASUS P4C800 Deluxe also comes with a lot of on-board features and peripherals. On top of that, you'll find the familiar five PCI slots for added expandability. Unlike some of the other 875P board, ASUS has always catered their boards for high-end workstations and that's why the P4C800 came with an AGP Pro slot."
It has been awhile since we've seen a board with an APG Pro slot! Good job w00t! -
Soltek SL-75FRN-L Review @ TwistedMods
Published: Tuesday, April 29, 2003 | By: DennisThis review looks familiar for some reason, oh ya, check out our review of the same board here. This isn't a bad review and covers just about everything and then some.
"Splat, protein stains in the pants. I think it’s a nice board don’t you?"
Not much in the way of overclocking, but they did notice that the FRN doesn't unlock lower multipliers on the TBred processors without a little help. -
EPoX 4PEA800 Review @ TweakTown
Published: Tuesday, April 29, 2003 | By: Dennis"Intel introduced the I875P chipset to officially support the 800MHz Pentium 4 CPU. This new chipset brings many great features, but at a rather high price. While it is still some time till Springdale makes it way onto the market, there has to be a medium that can handle the current CPU without costing an arm and a leg - well there is.
A few brave companies such as EPoX, Abit and Albatron are three who have taken up the challenge of supporting this new CPU without changing too much. These three companies have taken Intel’s last I845 chipset to be made, the I845PE, and ramped up the speed to 800MHz FSB."
You can add Soltek to that list too; they have released a new bios flash that will support the 800Mhz P4 processors through overclocking.
