AOPEN AK79G Max Image Gallery @ OCWorkBench
Published: Thursday, March 6, 2003 | By: DennisOCworkbench has posted quite a few images of the new nForce2 board from AOpen and so far everything looks pretty good. Heatsink mounting holes, dual bios, 2 maybe 3 phase power supply, Southbridge heatsink, and active Northbridge cooling. The board actually uses the graphics enabled chipset so it might not be as desirable for the overclocker, though time will tell.
Make sure to also check out the WinBios feature that allows you to change bios features from any Win2k/WinXP desktop, scary. -
ATI Announces new Radeon Chips
Published: Thursday, March 6, 2003 | By: Dennis"Graphics chip designer ATI Technologies on March 5 officially launched three new graphics chip series, the Radeon 9800, Radeon 9600 and Radeon 9200, for the desktop market.
Based on the R350 core, the Radeon 9800 features a 256-bit memory interface and eight powerful pixel pipelines. In addition, the new chip also offers programmable shader engines and support for Microsoft’s DirectX 9 and the OpenGL standards."
Like I expected quite a few sites have already released reviews of this new card/chip and I think Anand says it best:
"ATI comes to the rescue with a true competitor to the Radeon 9700 Pro - the Radeon 9800 Pro" -
Color to be Added to US Currency
Published: Thursday, March 6, 2003 | By: Dennis" NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - The federal government will unveil a new $20 bill that will introduce a predominant but subtle color into the background, marking the first time in modern history that a U.S. bill will feature a color other than green.
According to the Treasury Department, other changes will include new images of Andrew Jackson and the White House, as well as other adjustments that are being kept secret. The official unveiling will take place on March 27, with the new bill entering circulation in the fall. " -
Next Gen Radeon (9800 Pro) Preview @ NordicHardware
Published: Thursday, March 6, 2003 | By: DennisI have a feeling there will be a ton of these previews today so keep your eyes open, I also suspect they will say about the same thing.
" Judging by our performance evaluation we'd say that the 9800 Pro is roughly 20% faster (than the 9700 Pro) in most of the tests that actually count. Perhaps ATi will impress us further when the F-buffer comes into play later on. As for Doom III performance the 9800 Pro has the potential to be faster than the 9700 Pro (clock for clock that is)." -

Springdale Boards Top Mfg Lists at CeBIT
Published: Wednesday, March 5, 2003 | By: Dennis"Motherboards based on Intel’s new 865 (Springdale) and 875 (Canterwood) chipsets are expected to enjoy the sole spotlight at the CeBIT Hannover exhibition beginning next week, as Taiwanese chipset designers have still not obtained technology licensing for the 800MHz FSB (front-side bus) standard, the new feature of the Springdale platform.
As a result, in addition to Springdale and Canterwood products, board makers will focus on featuring Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) K8-based motherboards, Nvidia GeForce FX 5800 series graphics cards and ATI Technologies Radeon 9800 series cards as well as WLAN (wireless local area network) products." -
Albatron PX845PEV Pro Review @ 3dXtreme
Published: Wednesday, March 5, 2003 | By: DennisWe have seen this board floating around the net for quite some time now and I still don't like the placement of the floppy drive connector.
"Since overclocking with this board was so easy, there was no reason to back off the settings and test at 133 mhz. Anyone running a Intel P4 CPU knows of the overclocking possibilities with these chips. All of our testing was run on a front side bus of 150 mhz, this resulted in a CPU speed of approximately 2.850 ghz"
I suppose that is one of the nice things about having locked AGP and PCI clocks. -
Gainward Ti4800SE Review @ Legit Reviews
Published: Tuesday, March 4, 2003 | By: Dennis"I must admit the Gainward Ti4800SE surprised me by how well it overclocked. At first, I doubted the "stock" looking heatsink only later to find that this card would overclock to beat the Geforce Ti4600's and 4800's that we have looked at! "
Looks can be deceiving, overall I'm still very happy with my Gainward Ti4400 and I might be convinced to run a Gainward GeForce FX if card doesn't look stupid and/or they send me one hint hint -
Corsair XMS Twin X Review @ OcPrices
Published: Tuesday, March 4, 2003 | By: Dennis"The Corsair Twin X kit is outstanding memory for dual channel boards, you simply plug in the sticks and off you go with all of the best timings automatically set for you."
Based on the results of the review it would appear that they were impressed with the memory but not convinced of its effectiveness. Here is our review of the same memory for comparison.
