Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 Review @ HardwareZone
Published: Friday, April 25, 2003 | By: DennisI am currently using one of these new Maxtor drives and I am not at all impressed with the performance. For the money I would have much rather gotten a WD Special Edition drive or held out for one of the new Serial ATA drives.
"Although the DiamondMax Plus 9 is Maxtor's biggest and fastest drive in their performance desktop series, it however left us with a couple of mixed feelings. In the tests, it did managed to perform admirably well in Winbench 99, and from the scores, we were pretty convinced that it would fit into most desktops and even low-end workstations very well. However, its poor seek times did not do it much justice as its performance began to taper off at high workloads." -
CoolerMaster Black Alloy Bezel Review Posted
Published: Friday, April 25, 2003 | By: DennisWhat is the number one thing that people notice when looking at your black computer case? The beige drive faces. There is no need to paint them anymore, just cover them up with an anodized aluminum cover plate from Coolermaster.
Aside from the color the AFP-U02 is exactly the same as the AFP-U01 reviewed here. -
Traffic Killer
Published: Thursday, April 24, 2003 | By: DennisNothing kills traffic better than having your hosting provider work on the server. Sheesh, but as you can see Ninjalane.com is back online and with any luck will stay that way for quite awhile.

Soltek SL-75FRN L Review @ 3dXtreme
Published: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 | By: Dennis" I would recommend the Soltek SN-75FRN-L motherboard to anyone looking for a reliable, affordable and very overclockable motherboard that supports the latest technology with the exception of Serial ATA. I was very happy to say that my first Soltek motherboard review went so well. From stablilty to overclockability this board surpassed my expectations in every way. This is the best motherboard I have ever used when it comes to ease of overclocking."
I would tend to agree with them. Here is our review of the same board for reference.

Microsoft Wireless Optical Blue Mouse Review @ RadiativeNZ
Published: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 | By: DennisPersonally I still have a bad taste in my mouth over wireless mice and keyboards mostly because I hated the lack of battery life and how my across the map rail shots were just fraction of a second slow.
"Some cordless mice have a feeling that they are not as responsive as they should be, and again, I’m glad to see that the Wireless Optical does not suffer from this issue. The mouse is as responsive as a corded mouse while retaining all the freedom offered by the lack of a cord, and let’s be honest here, the cord on a mouse just sucks." -
Chieftec Case & Thermaltake Watercooling Buildup @ Techware Labs
Published: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 | By: DennisNot a bad setup if I say so myself, I especially like the "Intelligent Water Tube" feature to keep the hose from crimping.
"For well over a year now, many articles have demonstrated the innovation of hard core computer hardware aficionados gathering parts from junk yards, home centers, and auto parts stores. Thermaltake has removed the guesswork and simplified the process of watercooling, leaving you looking like a professional watercooling guru."
The use of a coiled wire to keep a hose from crimping has been semi common practice on high performance cars of old (Muscle cars) so you can be assured that it works. -
Antec SLK1600 Review @ The TechLounge
Published: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 | By: DennisPlop down on the couch and check out this review.
At only $60US this case is a pretty good deal though I'd be a little concerned as to how thick the metal is on this Antec offering if you were considering any mods. Based on the pictures I don't think there will be much of an issue. -
Zalman CNPS7000-CU Review @ Maximum OC
Published: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 | By: Dennis"Also, the one last interesting feature of this heat sink is that it can be used on a Pentium 4 as well as Athlon 64 processors! I'm not sure if this is such a great feature though (or if it's just a marketing gimmick), as by the time the Athlon 64 is out, I'm sure a plethora of new heat sinks will be out. But still, if you have a Pentium 4 now and you plan on upgrading later then maybe this would be the heat sink for you."
I guess the search for the perfect Althon 64 heatsink is over.I'm not sure what the recommended heatsink will look like but I'm pretty sure it will be much lighter than this one.

OpenBSD Gets Defense Funding Pulled
Published: Tuesday, April 22, 2003 | By: Dennis"The unused portion of a grant from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to fund development of the open-source operating system Open Berkeley Software Design (OpenBSD) has been pulled for unspecified reasons.
The project's leader, Theo de Raadt, said Thursday he was informed by e-mail that the remaining portion of the $2.3 million grant has been pulled. An e-mail message from a professor who is managing the grant did not provide a reason, but de Raadt said he believes the cancellation was prompted by concerns about the money going to too many foreign developers and to antiwar statements that de Raadt made to reporters.
"They decided that they didn't want (our project) anymore," de Raadt said Thursday, less than hour after he received notification. "This is it. It's over." "
