Published: Thursday, February 27, 2003 | By: Dennis"Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is set to introduce a new 400MHz FSB (front-side bus), Barton-core Athlon XP processor in May to strengthen its product portfolio before it launches the long talked about K8-based Athlon 64 processors in September."
Makes you wonder if this processor line will ever die. -
Interview with Nvidia CEO
Published: Thursday, February 27, 2003 | By: Dennis"Q: What is Nvidia’s plan for the chipset business this year? Is the company thinking about entering the Intel-platform market?
A: Despite our strong product portfolio, we have still claimed only a limited share of 3-4% in the chipset sector. However, with the performance of the nForce chipsets being recognized by more and more customers, we expected to take up 50-60% of the AMD-platform market by the end of 2003.
We are not considering entering the Intel-platform market at present, as chipsets and processors are only part of the components in PCs. We believe in the future PC users will care more and more about applications, instead of whether the PC is built with Intel or AMD platforms. Also, the profit margin of chipsets is already small, so companies will not be able to gain much profit if they have to pay Intel the US$5 licensing fee. Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) is the best example."
They could always pull a VIA, so far it would appear that they have gotten away with it too. Then again VIA have been rather quiet these past few months. hummmm -

Dell Dude Talks of Life, and Stuff
Published: Thursday, February 27, 2003 | By: Dennis"On February 9, he was arrested on charges of buying less than two ounces of marijuana. The arrest prompted Dell to cancel the actor's contract, which was valued somewhere in the vicinity of $500,000.
The down-to-earth NYU acting student says it's the best thing that’s happened to him.
"I'm done with the Dell stuff," he told The New York Sun in his first interview since his arrest. "I wasn’t being taken seriously as an actor, I was having a hard time getting proper auditions. I'm a little [angry] at how Dell handled it, but I feel done with the commercials. I learned a lesson I needed to learn. It's me; people can accept it or not. It's a part of life." "
Whoa, I wonder how long it will take before Compaq picks this kid up. -

Epox 8RDA+ Review @ 3dXtreme
Published: Thursday, February 27, 2003 | By: DennisThe nForce2 platform is really the top of the line when it comes to Athlon performance, and Epox pulled out the stops when it comes to available bios options making this board an overclockers dream.
"The Epox 8RDA+ at stock speed performed very well however it was during the overclocked testing that the Epox 8RDA+ really shined. I have been running this motherboard with the front side bus set at 200 mhz for about 2 weeks now and with 100% stability."
Sounds a little like the Soltek nForce2 board with the sweet spot being more in the 195Mhz range. This of course was with the 1.2bios revision, things got better when the 1.3bios was released. -
March Mobo Sales Prospects Optimistic
Published: Wednesday, February 26, 2003 | By: Dennis"Previously, motherboard makers had predicted that business would turn weaker in February and March, as many of their clients had asked for pre-holiday shipments before Chinese New Year and overall demand may be dampened in advance of the CeBIT show. However, with specifications of Intel’s new Springdale platform being published before the tradeshow, the suspended buying sentiment is expected to be much lessened."

Corsair Corsair TWINX512 Review @ 3Dvelocity
Published: Wednesday, February 26, 2003 | By: DennisWith the introduction of dual channel ddr there is an inherent need to find memory modules with similar SPD ratings. Corsair has taken the guesswork out of this process with their latest memory offering, TWINX.
"So do you need TWINX? Well, to be honest no you don't. For the AMD platform it's a product before its time and only those able to hit a FSB of 200MHz on their CPU are going to see any benefits from TWINX over the regular XMS product."
Here is our review for comparison.
