  • Albatron PX845PEV Pro Review @ 3dXtreme

Published: Wednesday, March 5, 2003 | By: Dennis

We have seen this board floating around the net for quite some time now and I still don't like the placement of the floppy drive connector.
"Since overclocking with this board was so easy, there was no reason to back off the settings and test at 133 mhz. Anyone running a Intel P4 CPU knows of the overclocking possibilities with these chips. All of our testing was run on a front side bus of 150 mhz, this resulted in a CPU speed of approximately 2.850 ghz"
I suppose that is one of the nice things about having locked AGP and PCI clocks. tongue smile

  • Gainward Ti4800SE Review @ Legit Reviews

Published: Tuesday, March 4, 2003 | By: Dennis

"I must admit the Gainward Ti4800SE surprised me by how well it overclocked. At first, I doubted the "stock" looking heatsink only later to find that this card would overclock to beat the Geforce Ti4600's and 4800's that we have looked at! "
Looks can be deceiving, overall I'm still very happy with my Gainward Ti4400 and I might be convinced to run a Gainward GeForce FX if card doesn't look stupid and/or they send me one wink smile hint hint

  • Corsair XMS Twin X Review @ OcPrices

Published: Tuesday, March 4, 2003 | By: Dennis

"The Corsair Twin X kit is outstanding memory for dual channel boards, you simply plug in the sticks and off you go with all of the best timings automatically set for you."
Based on the results of the review it would appear that they were impressed with the memory but not convinced of its effectiveness. Here is our review of the same memory for comparison.

  • Lindows Strikes Back

Published: Monday, March 3, 2003 | By: Dennis

"Lindows.com Inc. has raised the ire and the litigation of Microsoft Corp. with its Windows-like name. While the companies continue to wrangle over trade dress issues, Lindows.com has secured a court order to force Microsoft to produce more than 300 boxes of evidence, including evidence produced during the 1992 case between Apple and Microsoft that tread over similar ground. "
Some Pro Mac and Pro Linux users will find this of interest though I think the fight is a losing battle considering that Lindows isn't really that powerful. Slack and KDE is a better solution IMO.

  • Crappy Cooler Review @ Dan's Data

Published: Monday, March 3, 2003 | By: Dennis

You might remember seeing a photo of this cooler posted in my Comdex 2002 write-ups. The concept actually sounds pretty good on paper but it would appear that things are not always built how they sound.
"As it stands, this thing's a white elephant. Don't buy one, and question the motives of anyone who gives you one as a gift."

  • Epox Teams with Northgate to Expand Sales

Published: Monday, March 3, 2003 | By: Dennis

"Motherboard maker Epox Computer recently announced that it has established sales cooperation with California-based distributor Northgate Innovations to expand its North American business.

Targeting the medium-range to high-end segments, Epox has put most of its focus on the clone markets in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region and enjoys high brand recognition in China. The North American market, however, claims only a relatively limited portion of the board maker’s overall sales."

It is very typical for overseas motherboard mfgs. to rely very little on North American sales. In a way it shows stability and that their good products will be hard to obtain.

  • Iwill P4GB Review @ Digital Daily

Published: Monday, March 3, 2003 | By: Dennis

From the looks of it this is a Granite Bay motherboard that I can be proud of. The board is clearly designed for the workstation market though as some typical iWill "quirkiness" to it. Power connectors are in strange locations, and the floppy connector is at the bottom of the board. Though on the plus side you get 6 channel audio with a digital connector, no onboard RAID or SerialATA, APG Pro! happy smile, and a nice variety of colors including the now rare green PCB.

Not much in the way of overclocking controls but performance seems to be right on par.
