  • Bubble Light Review @ Modfathers

Published: Friday, April 4, 2003 | By: Dennis

The modding offer you cannot refuse. tongue smile
"To start with, I have a confession to make. I love lighting. On my open test bed I have two LED cluster spots, 3 cold cathodes and a cold cathode fan. Naturally there is always a bit of room for more, however I now am only on the lookout for something just that bit different."
It's just a onepage so don't be scared.

  • ATI Increasing Orders to TSMC and UMC

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2003 | By: Dennis

"The Toronto-based graphics chipmaker said the company will not seek any alliance with other chipmakers such as IBM. Its orders to the Taiwanese chip-making duo will increase significantly this year compared to 2002, Ho said in a telephone interview with the media."
    --snip--
"Nvidia, TSMC’s largest client, signed a deal with IBM last week to manufacture its new generation GeForce FX graphics chips. It is believed that Nvidia hopes to use the new NV35 chip, to be introduced in May, to enhance its competitive edge in the high-end market against the Radeon 9800 (R350) from ATI Technologies."

  • ECS Giving Up on Apple Products

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2003 | By: Dennis

"According to sources, Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) has given up on developing Apple Computer products. It decided to spin off its third business division, the portable product division, several months ago and announced the sale of its Chungli, Taoyuan County (Taiwan) notebook factory last Friday."
In another story it would seem that Asustek might be buying up all of the ECS "spin offs".

  • Mushkin PC3500 DDR Review @ TweakTown

Published: Wednesday, April 2, 2003 | By: Dennis

"Mushkin has always produced good modules for the PC overclockers, and this is no exception. Designed for overclockers, Mushkin has won my praise on their design and performance.

Overclocking wise, OCZ and Mushkin were on just about equal terms with only 9MHz difference in the maximum speeds at CL2.5. Cost wise it's on par with most other high performance/hand picked modules on the market."

The SPD timings on these modules are 2.5-4-4 (with a number missing) making them a little on the slow side but they bench at CAS2 so that isn’t not too bad.

  • Spire HD05040B FlowCooler Review @ myGamer

Published: Wednesday, April 2, 2003 | By: Dennis

Personally I rather like the underdrive coolers, they are quiet and work well. Though lately I've noticed that most of them have started using smaller fans so my opinions have changed slightly. sad smile
" Before I installed the FlowCooler, I took the temperature my “baby” after having about 3 hours of intense gaming (Unreal 2 and Raven Shield). Now my method of testing was extremely accurate and such testing may not be possible at home. How did I test the temperature? Well, I used a standard LCD thermometer…. I know, but it worked! "

  • PcToys Green Dual Cold Cathode Review @ Comp-Shop

Published: Tuesday, April 1, 2003 | By: Dennis

I'd say don't bother going of you are using a Mozilla based browser the text is black on black. Anyhow I've actually used these PC Toys cathodes before and the red ones are more orange and the UV light kit was broken (only one cathode would light up, the other just kind of glowed.

Needless to say I wasn't impressed.
"We received the Dual Cold Cathode kit shortly after pcToys sent it and it was in perfect condition. It had been well packaged so that nothing was broken from going through the mail."
I got mine at CompUSA, it's going back this weekend.

  • LianLi PC-70 Chassis Review @ Twisted Mods

Published: Tuesday, April 1, 2003 | By: Dennis

Here is an old favorite in the full tower format." When we first received this package I was overwhelmed at the shear size. I knew this was a big case, but you just can’t appreciate the PC70’s size until you see it first hand. Dimension for the case are: 23.5” high x 23.25” deep (wow) x 8.25” wide. You would think a case this size would have some serious weight issues, but due to its aluminum construction the PC70 comes in at only 11lbs."
I wish I could say that for my Antec mid tower.

  • Shuttle nForce2 XPC Review @ TweakTown

Published: Tuesday, April 1, 2003 | By: Dennis

If you are looking for a small form factor "cube" pc Shuttle pretty much made the market.
"Small Form Factor PCs or SFF as its becoming known as of today is making a huge breakthrough in the enthusiast and hobbyist PC markets. Mini PC’s were started by end users who didn’t want to have their PCs in "crappy old" PC cases and avid LAN goers. After all, it hard to lug around tower and Midi tower cases all across the city and even the state."
hehe, they said crappy. big grin smile

  • Soltek SL-75FRN-L Review @ Digital-Daily

Published: Tuesday, April 1, 2003 | By: Dennis

Digital Daily takes at look at an old favorite the SL-75FRN-L motherboard from Soltek.
"Soltek products have been to our test lab several times. It's no wonder - the company has succeeded in firmly settling on the Russian market and attracting a great number of admirers."
Check out our review of the same board for comparison. tongue smile
