Symantec Knew and Said Nothing.
Published: Friday, February 14, 2003 | By: DennisCatchy title huh? make sure you read page two of the Wired.com article.
"Symantec claims to have identified the Slammer worm that ravaged the Internet during the last weekend of January hours before anyone else did.
Symantec then shared the information only with select customers, leaving the rest of the global community to get slapped around by Slammer."
How sweet it is to be screwed by Symantec. Here is their reason.
" "Unless you are a paid Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System customer, you would not have received the early notification," "
A valid reason but hardly excusable. -

Vantec Fan Controller Review @ Inside-Hardware
Published: Thursday, February 13, 2003 | By: DennisHere is a fun little device that helps control your fan speeds, though it appears to have some "issues".
"I ran into a few problems with the 4th channel on the controller. For some odd reason it would power up the fan but keep it running at a constant speed, it would not adjust the speed of the fan I had connected."
With just one device tested it is hard to say if this is a common occurrence or just a bad part. -

Soltek 75FRN-L Review @ OverclockersNZ
Published: Wednesday, February 12, 2003 | By: DennisThis is one of them really short reviews but covers all of the high points.
" Without multiplier adjustment, the 75FRN-L is clearly aimed at OEM and system integrators' market, unlike the once famous 75DRV range."
As you can see they didn't bother to update the BIOS to the latest version since we all know that the board is very overclockable. Here is our review for comparison. -
AMD CPU Unlocking Done Quick
Published: Wednesday, February 12, 2003 | By: DennisThis unlocking guide is based on the same article that I used to unlock the XP2200+ processor in our Soltek SL-75FRN-L review. The mod involves "painting" across the two pins not on the processor but on the back of the motherboard.
I have even a better one, I just did it last night.
Take a small piece of wire about a .25" to .125" in length and form it into a "U". Drop the two ends of the wire into the CPU socket where the connection needs to take place. Insert your Tbred and boot up. Much easier than wrapping the pins and easily removed if need be.
Keep in mind this can and very well could damage your system so try this at your own risk. -
Gainward’s Ultra-750XP Review @ GamePC
Published: Tuesday, February 11, 2003 | By: DennisGainward is one of my favorite video card makers, they produce a quality product that performs well under all conditions.
Keep in mind; the Ultra-750XP card uses the Ti4800SE nVidia GPU, which is basically the Ti4400 with AGP 8x support. In the past there has been some confusion as to what chip is the Ti4600 replacement. Just remember Ti4800 "SuxX0r Edition" and you'll never go wrong. -
10,000rpm SATA Western Digital
Published: Tuesday, February 11, 2003 | By: Dennis" Expected to be shipping later this month, the WD Raptor hard drive is expected to sell for approximately 30 percent less than competing SCSI hard drives. Initially, the hard drive will be available in a 36 GB capacity. In addition to its 5.2 ms average seek time, 10,000 RPM, 1.2 million hours MTBF and five-year warranty, data throughput is 150 MB/second from the SATA interface. The performance roadmap for SATA extends up to 600 MB/second, ensuring a reliable standard for storage providers and customers in the years ahead. "
I have been pretty loyal to Maxtor over the years but knowing this I might just switch. -
Drug Charges for the Dell Dude
Published: Tuesday, February 11, 2003 | By: DennisEveryone is making a big deal out of this so I figured that I would post the news story.
" Curtis, 22, was charged with criminal and unlawful possession of marijuana, two misdemeanor charges that carry possible jail sentences of up to three months.
However, at his arraignment on Monday afternoon, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Ellen Coin adjourned the case for one year and said the charges could be dismissed if Curtis, who lives in New York City, gets in no trouble for the next 12 months."
Its good to be in the spotlight.
