  • Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP Review @ Hardware Zone

Published: Wednesday, April 9, 2003 | By: Dennis

Aside from a name change and larger buffer the Hitachi Deskstar looks similar and performs slightly better than IBM version of the same name. I wonder if Hitachi fixed the failure problems that plagued the Deskstar in the past?
"All in all, we find the Hitachi Deskstar 180GXP an attractive choice, not so much of its features, but the fact that it employs a rather trusted and mature hard drive technology from IBM. Still, we can't really say that it's the best out there as we still have yet to explore Western Digital's offering."

  • Killer GeForceFX Watercooling

Published: Tuesday, April 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

A watercooling mod you'll just have to see to believe.
" You may well have read the press release from Gainward this morning. But that was only the initial product announcement : the bottom line is, you guys will be able to go out and buy a Gainward graphics card with a BladeRunner designed Bit-Tech watercooler on it. We like to call it FXliquidFlow. "
    Not Bad! big grin smile

  • 40mm Sanyo Tornado Fan Review @ ExtensionTech

Published: Tuesday, April 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

It isn't very often you see reviews of typical everyday fans but this one is kind of special. You may remember the 40mm fan I used in the Soltek SL-75MRN-L Review. Well this is pretty much the exact same thing. A little excessive for a HDD cooler but to each their own. happy smile

  • ASUS P4PE Black Pearl Review @ Hardware Zone

Published: Tuesday, April 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

For the money the i845PE chipset is where its at unless you are going dual channel. The Hardware Zone review doesn't have much on the overclocking features but they did post a very curious wcpuid screenshot of the board running at 200Mhz FSB.
"For overclockers, the Black Pearl is quite an attraction as its overclockability was extremely good. With system bus frequency setting available up to 200MHz, you can literally set any value and yet expect the board to handle it without problems. Of course, that's provided that the processor could overclock up to that speed. Here's a list of what you can do in the BIOS"

  • Do You War Chalk??

Published: Tuesday, April 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

IMO War Chalking is a very unoriginal name given to the new age form or war dialing. The theory is simple, if you find a wireless hotspot put down a few chalk lines to let others know of your discovery. Pretty simple huh.
    "Is it Illegal?
Probably, it could be characterized as they guy who buys the Dish cable system and hacks the card. The signal is out there I’m just grabbing a peace for my self."

  • Bose QuietComfort Headset Review @ Rojak Pot

Published: Tuesday, April 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

17 pages dedicated to a pair of headphones! shock smile
"Again, you shouldn't use the QuietComfort if you are riding a bike. Because the QuietComfort actively attenuates the entire human range of hearing, you may miss critical audio cues like car horns, rumble of a truck around the corner, etc... So, keep the QuietComfort on only if you are just a pillion rider."
hehe he said pillion. tongue smile

  • Homemade Harddrive Cooler @ Twisted Mods

Published: Tuesday, April 8, 2003 | By: Dennis

Not a bad HDD cooler how-to though for the money I would have just bought an underdrive cooler. I find that they seem to work the best and don't get everything dirty. tongue smile

Do check out the mod though. happy smile

  • AOpen AX4GE Max Review @ accelenation

Published: Monday, April 7, 2003 | By: Dennis

" The black PCB has become a trademark for AOpen's motherboards. Nowadays, the old greenish yellow motherboards seems to be becoming less and less common. On the north bridge is the standard AOpen heatsink. Active cooling might have been a preferred solution for overclockers, however, passive cooling allows for less overall noise in the system. "
I like the black and hate the tan/brown so the less common the better. big grin smile
This AOpen Max board is built with all of the typical AOpen features so you really can't go wrong.

  • Vantec Nexus Fan Controller Review @ Techware Labs

Published: Monday, April 7, 2003 | By: Dennis

Backlit with an Alu finish, not bad. happy smile
"The Nexus Fan Controller is a must-have for anyone looking to regulate fan speed & noise inside their computer case. Vantec has a provided an easy solution to the problem of building one's own, or installing half-built rheobuses in existing bay covers and taking a chance of screwing up."

  • Zalman 7000Cu Review @ Digital-Daily

Published: Monday, April 7, 2003 | By: Dennis

This heatsink is what happens when you mix an all copper "ORB" with a 80mm fan. This is a cool looking heatsink but has a very strange attachment method.
"Besides, the user manual has some announcements that Zalman shall bear no responsibility for any damage incurred with overclocking or inadequate cooler installation. Besides, the user is warned that the cooler mass is 773 g, which exceeds the admissible mass for Socket 478 (as per Intel, it is 450 g). "
Oh and its heavy too. sad smile
