  • Overclocking at Wired

Published: Monday, February 17, 2003 | By: Dennis

This is something you don't see every day and overclocking article at Wired.com.
""It's an electrical smell, a plastic smell, only there's something else," says John Sylvia, his mouth lost in a bushy beard and his arms tattooed to the knuckles. "There's a fear factor that goes along with the smell. You know something went bad." Sylvia is describing the first CPU he ever fried."

  • Fun News - Ninja Attack

Published: Friday, February 14, 2003 | By: Dennis

Quite a few people find this site by looking for the keyword of "Ninja", so I figured that some Ninja News is in order happy smile. These stories aren't really a normal type of news for Ninjalane but it is pretty funny just the same.

Totally Sweet Ninjas attack Congo train - aug 26, 2002
"The government have blamed the attack on so called Ninja rebels, a militia group active during Congo's civil wars of 1997 and 1998, who style themselves on the ancient Japanese warriors. "They do this because ninjas are totally sweet," said a government spokesman. "

10 killed in Congo 'Ninja' attack - feb 12, 2003
" The so-called Ninja fighters, who take their name from an ancient band of Japanese warriors made popular by Hollywood movies, hide out in the forests of the Pool region and are led by renegade Pastor Frederik Ntoumi. "

  • Symantec Knew and Said Nothing.

Published: Friday, February 14, 2003 | By: Dennis

Catchy title huh? make sure you read page two of the Wired.com article.
"Symantec claims to have identified the Slammer worm that ravaged the Internet during the last weekend of January hours before anyone else did.

Symantec then shared the information only with select customers, leaving the rest of the global community to get slapped around by Slammer."

How sweet it is to be screwed by Symantec. Here is their reason.
" "Unless you are a paid Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System customer, you would not have received the early notification," "
A valid reason but hardly excusable. angry smile

  • Vantec Fan Controller Review @ Inside-Hardware

Published: Thursday, February 13, 2003 | By: Dennis

Here is a fun little device that helps control your fan speeds, though it appears to have some "issues".
"I ran into a few problems with the 4th channel on the controller. For some odd reason it would power up the fan but keep it running at a constant speed, it would not adjust the speed of the fan I had connected."
With just one device tested it is hard to say if this is a common occurrence or just a bad part.

  • Soltek 75FRN-L Review @ OverclockersNZ

Published: Wednesday, February 12, 2003 | By: Dennis

This is one of them really short reviews but covers all of the high points.
" Without multiplier adjustment, the 75FRN-L is clearly aimed at OEM and system integrators' market, unlike the once famous 75DRV range."
As you can see they didn't bother to update the BIOS to the latest version since we all know that the board is very overclockable. tongue smile Here is our review for comparison.

  • AMD CPU Unlocking Done Quick

Published: Wednesday, February 12, 2003 | By: Dennis

This unlocking guide is based on the same article that I used to unlock the XP2200+ processor in our Soltek SL-75FRN-L review. The mod involves "painting" across the two pins not on the processor but on the back of the motherboard.

I have even a better one, I just did it last night.

Take a small piece of wire about a .25" to .125" in length and form it into a "U". Drop the two ends of the wire into the CPU socket where the connection needs to take place. Insert your Tbred and boot up. big grin smile Much easier than wrapping the pins and easily removed if need be.

Keep in mind this can and very well could damage your system so try this at your own risk.
